Probably I supposed glazer would have thighten up the purse which explain the inactivity of next transfer even as Mou already repeatedly mentioned he need 2 or 1 more player

I doubt as we were about to buy Griezmann. But probably the club doesn't want to spend 50 million on squad players and are negotiating to lower their prices.

We don’t know for a fact who his preferred targets are at this stage, only that he apparently wants a winger and a central midfielder (of some description, presumably a defensive one).

But as mentioned before, in a hypothetical scenario in which he wants Perisic and Dier/Matic, I don’t think he has any right to be annoyed that those particular targets haven’t been acquired given the prices people keep quoting.

We can’t just give selling clubs whatever they want for any kind of player just because the manager fancies ‘em. That isn’t sustainable in the long run.

Usual caveat: We don’t know shit and Mourinho himself hasn’t said a word to indicate he’s pissed at Woodward. He’s said something about things being “difficult” in general which is only a criticism of Woodward if you want it to be - it certainly doesn’t have to be.

All quite fair and true. But of the things we know about Mourinho, one is that there's a pretty standard response when he doesn't get what he wants and he doesn't tend let logic or reason get in the way of feeling like a victim when the house of cards is coming down. So, if/when we get to a point where it's becoming apparent that we might not end up getting the players he wants/they might not start the season with us, I wouldn't expect him to be easy breezy about the whole thing.

He'll go full Mourinho, no doubt.

Hopefully that doesn't happen, though.

To my thinking, we were prepared to spend considerably more money this window than we've done so far. So, it's - at worst - a question of identifying a couple of targets we can actually land using whatever shitload remains of the (probably not fixed at all) budget. That should be possible - and if it ain't, it can't all be on Woody. Unless he actually is an utter muppet, that is, which some people keep claiming.

At best, we reach an agreement - ultimately - with the clubs holding José's primary targets, whether that turns out to be Perisic or whoever remains to be seen (of course).

I doubt they would suddenly change the budget it would have been known before the season even ended what the budget was and then everyone would plan accordingly

So far we've done the bare minimum of replacing Zlatan. But tbh this window is shaping up to be a bit of a disaster. We're showing such a lack of ambition.

It does feel like there's a lack of urgency about the transfers. Time is running out fast...

I would like to have had more new players by now but its hardly a disaster.....yet.

Lets see how we stand at the end of august

Nope. We have 5 senior midfielders, out of whom 2 are good enough, 1 is 35 years of age, 1 is a youngster in his first season in EPL and 1 is Fellaini. Let that sink in.
I agree, but if we have so many attacking players in scintillating goal scoring form (as in my hypothesis), I think we are good enough to challenge the league. Our midfield is good enough to create a few chances every match which should be enough.

It's no coincidence that the players we've not yet secured (winger and dm) have potential world class players available in bale (in particular) and verrati.

We have got the perisic deal to a point where we know it can be agreed quickly if we add a few million to the fee. We are waiting to see how the bale situation unfolds. Imagine we bought perisic then bale is suddenly available..!

Look at morata too. We got it to a position where we knew we could close it but our preference was actually lukaku and once we knew he wanted to come to us we closed that deal out quickly.

Not smokescreens, trampolines...fall back options.

Kudos for your positivity but not a hope we are challenging for the league.

I like this theory

Not sure I'd call it a disaster but we've certainly not addressed the issues we had last year. Reminds me a bit of the summer we chose not to pay the agent fees for Hazard and missed out. Yeah, we took the moral high ground but we lost a player who would've been sensational for us. The moral high ground was precious little compensation in the long term.

And yet, a few years later we spunked a load on Raiola's fee, making our noble stance over Hazard both redundant and short-sighted. If we do the same over inflated prices this summer, I can't imagine the fans will take much solace in us losing the players, botching another campaign but making our point about the market.

Would you really want a player that dont want to come here? If Morata was 80M , how much would Bale cost?

I know theres a different of quality between Bale and Perisic but Im sure as hell I would want a player that want to come than one they are almost pushing out . Anyway its all fantasy thinking.

Also Real will know fine well how much Bale in worth in merchandising to us.

I'm angry with the club's transfer business this summer. We should've already done more than just replacing Zlatan and adding a CB to replace Rojo while he's injured. Why are wasting time with the deals for Perisic and Matic when both are overpriced? It doesn't make any sense. Maybe we need to lose the first game of the season against West Ham to see some action in the transfer window. In fact if that's the kick up the backside Mourinho and Ed need then I hope it happens otherwise our season will be over before its started. We need 2 midfielders and a winger ASAP. I would be prepared to wait for a LB although I'm disappointed we didn't go for Mendy.

We have a front line that is more suited to Everton than United really; Lukaku is a good striker but he isn't a world beater by any means, Rashford is average and Lingard is worse than average.

When they are your first choice players you have no hope of competing for the league. I doubt that front line would be good enough to get fourth to be honest. Massive improvements needed.

It's a job. Bale has the character to commit wherever he plays, he's no di Maria. If Madrid want to sell him then the door opens and I am sure we would move in. Why would we commit to Perisic when that possibility exists?

It's business and the people at the top of the game are incredibly experienced. The only difference from standard business negotiations is that it plays out in the press (and the press can be used to influence decisions).
