Mourinho not happy with transfer window - Exclusive interview with Ogden

Utd fans need to stop complaining already. Lukaku, Martial, Rashford, Mkhitaryan, Mata is a hugely creative and high quality attacking roster.
It's the same as last season only Lukaku steps in for Zlatan. We need more up front, I don't think United supporter would seriously disagree with that.

I disagree. We got outscored by Bournemouth last season. Let that sink in.

I think there's validity in the concerns.

That's more down to Mourinho's tactics than the individual quality of your attackers. And the one quality your player have been lacking mostly -finishing- has been much improved with Lukaku coming in.

I don't agree with that at all.

It's not Mourinho's fault that our players are awful in front of goal. Not his fault that some are devoid of creativity when they approach the box.

Lukaku is basically a replacement for Ibra. He'll score more goals, but it's moot if the rest don't chip in.

Just close your eyes and imagine an alternative universe where it's not Man United, but Dortmund or Monaco who play a CL quarter with an attacking line of Martial, Lukaku, Mkhitaryan, with Mata behind them. Everyone marvels at their freeflowing and high scoring football. Huge clubs like United are rumoured to be interested in buying some of them.

There's plenty of clubs in Europe with better attackers than United's.

Not that many

Barcelona, Bayern, Real Madrid, Chelsea, City, Tottenham, Monaco(arguable now), Atletico(arguable), Arsenal(arguable), Liverpool(don't think they do, but could be argued), Dortmund(arguable).

I'd say that's a lot.

STILL need a DM and a winger. Possibly a left-back too. Today has really highlighted the need for a midfielder, and the lack of service in to Lukaku has shown that a winger would still be handy.

We need a left back, midfielder and winger.

The squad is almost the same as last season we've just swapped Zlatan for Lukaku and signed a defender who will need time to settle, there's little to no improvement to out starting 11 which is the worry.

With Herrera injury today, we need to finish a deal for a DMF ASAP. Stop joking around.

What sort of a list is that? You don't even agree with yourself.

Have you awoken from a year-long coma?

He's not wrong tbf it's just that all those players underperform in our awful and unbalanced system. Our main width comes from a fullback, our DM is an AM and we have no runners except for Lingard who unfortunately can't finish

We do have great players but it all just doesn't come together well, I think signings like Matic and Perisic could help that but only time will tell. At the very least Mou will get some improvement over last season just from knowing how to utilise these guys better

I can tell you categorically. If we had Robben and Ribery we'd be a lot better in attack. I don't doubt that for one moment. They are consistent proper wingers. Something none of ours are.

Costa went inconsistent last season. Where is he now?

I'm amazed people think this team will 'come good' without major additions to it. Almost like they're convincing themselves/others they're intelligent football heads and not transfer muppets by being the opposite extreme.

And you can see that it's the quality a lot of the time that causes us issues, rather than Jose.

Absolutely true. I read somewhere that we hit the post/crossbar so much last year that had those landed in the net we would have finished 2nd. Surely, some of our attacking players will have better luck this year and actually find the net more often.
Our transition into RAWK is complete. It's been a good run lads.

It was just a remark that it can be argued both ways.

Disregard the arguable teams, you've got Barcelona, Bayern, Real Madrid, City, Chelsea and Tottenham with better attackers. I'd say that's a lot. Wouldn't you?

Same personally. I think people are being overly optimistic.

Those who argue, well it's Jose's 2nd season. Keep in that mind that in his last stint at Chelsea, he had a marvelous transfer window with Chelsea in his 2nd season. Made great additions that strengthened the team from the prior season where they finished 3rd. As it stands, that Chelsea team had improved more than we have this window and we need more of an improvement than they needed.

Then Real's 2nd season, they were already a very strong team prior to the season(2nd best in the world). Think Coentrao was their only addition, but that was a very strong team as is.

Then Jose at Inter for his 2nd season, they made loads of great signings that summer. Basically had the best transfer window by far of any club in Europe that summer.

The need for a defensive midfielder is so outstanding. Just pay whatever money to get one. If we go into the new season with Fellaini starting every game again I'm going to cry.

Simple as

I dont understand, our midfield is so amazingly poor since 11/12, and we still havent fixed it, Carrick is like 35/36, and we still havent got a replacement for him. Our only 2 CM`s are herrera and Pogba. Fellaini isnt a CM, he works his socks of, and gives 100%, but hes just not united quality, not his fault. But we need at least 2 more midfielders, and 1 good winger

Everyone's clear about our need for a DM, except Jose. Not sure why there is no movement in that respect. If the players he wants are not obtainable, well, move on to the next target.

Indeed. We've improved our personnel by 0%. After it finished sixth in the PL and somehow people think we'll challenge for the title? :wenger:

How the feck would you know that there's no 'movement' ? As if people at your club only worked on transfers during the exact time a respective transfer story is online

You could also argue the only teams with better attacking quality are City, Madrid, Barcelona & Bayern Munich.

Which would not be a lot.

I can see why Mourinho isn't happy. Whilst I have my reservations about Lukaku, he's a decent signing but it's questionable whether he improves our starting 11 from last season. Jury is out currently on whether Lindehof will even make our first choice starting 11. Given that, my current feeling is that we've spent £100 million to stand still.

We clearly still need a central midfielder - probably two really as Fellaini is nowhere near good enough. We also need a LB and ideally some more attacking options. My concern is that City seem to have gone out and got a whole bunch of players I think would have been ideal for us. We need at least two more big signings, otherwise I suspect it's another season of struggling to get top 4.

Pretty much this. Ideally we should add 4-5 new players but this is not going to happen.

We have not been linked or seen any progress, even Jose saying it's difficult now. Doesnt need you to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out that we're struggling right now

I just hope the difficult transfer window doesn't lead to Jose and the board falling out. The last thing we need is internal power struggles and arguments destabilising us.

Explain Lukaku then? Everyone assumed he was a done deal to Chelsea and we were struggling to finalise a deal with Morata. Suddenly out of the blue it turns out we've been working on a deal with Everton for months that virtually no paper had picked up on. Transfer gossip is far from the be all and end all.

And some people think we'll magically challenge for the league title despite the squad not actually being improved from last season when we finished sixth. We're going to need a great end to the transfer window in order to stand a real chance. Right now we are one injury to Herrera (or Pogba) away from a real mess.

I'd forgotten just how static we could look in midfield until yesterday. It's so laboured and there's no way signing someone like Matic or Dier changes that. It's way too one dimensional.

Or our players not missing by far the most clear cut chances in the league, most in games that finished as a draw, along with our young players improving as you'd expect.

I've said numerous times - the performances of Pogba, Martial, Lukaku and Rashford will have a far greater bearing on our season than who we sign.

Quite true. The attack will determine our season. But there is no guarantee that Mkhi, Martial and Pogba will be more prolific this season, though you can count on Pogba to put in class performances in midfield, in general. So without new signings, it is certainly a leap of faith for now.

Though I do not judge players by preseason performances, have to say that if Lindelof is not even at Rojo's level, then our CB situation would be dire as usual if Blind, Smalling or Jones start regularly. Terrible window so far, but there is still time.

Sanchez from Bayern would change that. Very quick and powerful running with the ball
