btw he spoke to Sky Sports News this morning and they're teasing the 'interview' over a few hours, bit by bit.

I don't really understand what you're saying here. Looking at the squad from then and the squad from now, I'd say we were weaker back then. Mourinho's Chelsea did 'raise the bar' to an extent, but that had a lot to do with them being the first of this era's generation of sugar-daddy clubs. He came in and spent shitloads of Abramovich's money, and it took us a while to catch up. Since then, we've got the hang of dealing with these big-spending teams.

Unless you see Mourinho being given more money by Abramovich than the likes of City and PSG are spending, then I don't see a similar sort of bar-raising happening again. His impact will solely be down to how good he is as a manager (which, as I said, will probably mean we have a more difficult job on our hands, but not an impossible one by any means.)
 
It seems to be blowing up that he is re-joining Chelsea next season. Always a shame to see someone with genuine class at that classless club.

Chelsea will return to being serious title challengers now, but as Fergie says "accept the challenge"
 
He said nothing about rejoining Chelsea. He quotes were completely misinterpreted to get a story.

That was according to Sid Lowe on ESPN. And he explained exactly what Mourinho said.

Always thought he'd rejoin Chelsea or follow the money again by going to City. Would be hard for us, especially with SAF nearing the end but the consolation prize is we get to laugh at all those begging/thinking he was nailed on to join us.

:lol: I'm a big fan of him being SAF's successor at this wonderful club, but no way you will associate genuine class with most football managers, especially Mourinho. The only ones that come into mind are Lippi and Robson.

FFS, just when I thought I didn't want Jose at OT, he goes and does something like this. It's a strange one, really, isn't it?

He pokes a coach in the eye, he near threatens referees (Frisk) etc, yet by all accounts - he's a really great human being, above all else.

I guess that's why SAF & Jose are so close. They can act utter spastics on the pitch because their will to win is second to none, but outside of football and by all accounts, they're great humans.

FFS, let me bounce out of this thread before I change my mind about Jose again.

Jose Mourinho has given his clearest hint he will be available to return to Chelsea this summer after revealing he does not expect to be in Madrid this time next year.

The charismatic Portuguese is the bookies' favourite to succeed interim boss Rafa Benitez and return to the managerial hot-seat he vacated in September 2007.

Mourinho impressively wrestled the league title back from Barcelona last season but his relationship with key Real players, such as Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos, is thought to be strained and his departure this summer is expected.

And according to the Spanish sports programme Punto Pelota, the 50-year-old told attendees at a private amateur coach conference earlier this week that he will not be at the Bernabeu next term.

When asked if he could repeat his feats at Real, he is believed to have said: "It will be difficult because next year I will not be here."

Mourinho, who won two league titles during his first spell at Chelsea, has been at Real Madrid since the summer of 2010. And his supposed admission that he will leave the Spanish champions will also encourage Monaco, who have reportedly offered him a big-money deal to work in the principality.

So Rune Bratseth met and talked to David Gill today, apparently he asked him about Mourinho Gill was pretty certain that Chelsea would be his next destination. Revolutionary I know.

For a supposedly super tactician, he seems to be off his game in the Champions League this season.
 
He was tactically outplayed in pretty much every game in knockout phase this season, even against Galatasaray at home when they won.
 
They weren't very convincing against City, us and Galatasary prior as well.

He couldn't find an answer to Bayern last season either.

The season before that, his petulance after Pepe's red card where he ignored changing his team's setup and bringing on fresh legs to throw a strop was bizarre.
 
Although I like him, but his team play such a dour football, for such an expensive team. I think Fergie could get more from those bunch of excellent players.
 
History will say that he failed at Real Madrid. 3 SF's with one of the best and most expensively assembled squads ever doesn't really cut the mustard. They've had help along the way this year and a very kind draw route.
 
I always said he was rubbish. Except when I said he was brilliant.

Very harsh to say they've had a kind draw. Worst group by far, us in the knock-outs and Dortmund in the semis. Galatasaray are shit but it's a lot harder run than we had in 2008 and 2009 where Barca aside we didn't really come up against any world class sides.
