Mourinho | New old Chelsea manager

Geoff Shreeves is such a scrote

This could explain Geoff's nasty streak - perhaps he's controlled by Mourinho? It won't surprise me to see Geoff scream Aguero in Fergies per-match interview.

I watched that with the sound off, and it looked like someone with invisible cotton was making the newscaster's mouth move upwards now & again.

Former United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has told Jose Mourinho to forget about succeeding Ferguson.

The former Chelsea boss, whose Real Madrid side take on United in the Champions League on Wednesday night, is widely expected to return to England next season.

But Schmeichel told El Mundo: "He will not be the successor. I don't think the club would be happy with everything Mourinho brings with him.

"He's a great candidate for his qualities as a manager but the club doesn't want all the things that come with him."

Isn't Schmeichel a club ambassador or something?

Is this the one with that weird old bloke watching Mourinho on a laptop, acting like he's never seen the bloke in his life?

The big Dane speaks on behalf of many many United fans indeed! It's an opinion full of senses.

I really enjoyed that programme on Mourinho last night. I thought the Clough comparison at the start was a very apt one. He is a real character and I agree with what SAF said in it, that by the time his career ends he'll probably be the most successful manager of all time, in terms of trophies won. There's a strong possibility.

I rate the man as a manager and in some ways I even quite like him - especially thinking about him in terms of being a latter day Clough. But I would still rather enjoy his antics from a safe distance. Hopefully he is right and SAF will go on until he is 90. Perhaps by then therell be some stronger candidates about.

First sentence:
"Is there a more hilariously unconvincing friendship in public life than that fabled one between Sir Alex Ferguson and José Mourinho?"

Buwhaaaa...?

I think there is considerable mutual respect between the two, and a recognition they are cut from similar cloth. Both will do anything to win and embrace the whole "mind games" thing.

Does anyone really give much thought to the nature of their friendship over and above that? That article seems to imply there is a general consensus that they are on each other's speed-dial and feel restless if they dont chat on the phone every other day. But I dont get the impression anyone thinks that, they are just two great managers who speak highly of each other out of mutual respect.

Exactly.

Why would Ferguson go out of his way to appear on a documentary about Mourinho and praise him highly if he didn't like him very much?

There seems to be genuine warmth when they talk about each other as far as I'm concerned, based on mutural respect and love of football.

I know Sir Alex is getting on a bit but if United score a late winner he should run (or walk at a brisk pace) right down the Madrid touchline, arms in the air celebrating.

Would be a pretty stupid and antagonistic thing to do given that the tie would only be 50% over at that point. Mourinho would use that as motivation for his players for the return leg - in that documentary there is a story of a Greek backroom staff going mental at Porto when they'd won "1-0" and Mourinho walked over to them and said "you are celebrating like it's over - we will beat you in Greece". And they did....

Would personally prefer fergies customary fist pumping jig on the half way line, classic fergie.

Fergie always has good relationship with world class managers. Beside Mou, there's Pep, Lippi, and Wenger to name a few. I'm sure if he's asked to have an interview on their documentaries, he'd oblige to it.

Perhaps not on speed-dial but SAF's number's definitely in Mourinho's phone. When SAF went on holiday in New York and skipped the European coaches meeting it was Mou who checked up on him. So, not close enough to know his travel plans in advance, but enough to get an answer when he calls him during a break.

Personally I think Mou likes SAF more than SAF likes him, and SAF's just not got the heart to tell him. Unrequited love is sad indeed.

I bet SAF's number is on Rafa's phone. I bet he sits there at night, staring at it, wishing SAF would call him.
