Mourinho | New old Chelsea manager

Benzema poor?! You must have pretty high football standards, I think he has been great. Anyway, this isn't the thread for that.

My mate is their big fan and says Benzema's been mostly useless. Could be the Higuain agenda though, and I did notice most Madristas prefer the Argentinian.

From what I've noticed while watching your lot is that Benzema is more suited to UCL, while he's done close to nothing in La Liga.

Every game I've seen him play for us this season he's been great, granted I have missed a few games due to being at work but every time I've seen him play he has impressed me. Looked up his stats though and I was surprised to see he only has 1 goal and 3 assists in the league, I thought that his tally was way better, his completed passes ratio and CL stats great though. Amar and your friend could be right, I just haven't really seen it though. I thought he was great every time I've seen him this season.

You know Benzema is one of the rare players I like at Real Madrid, so it makes no sense for me to lie. :D

Will make his 100th Champions League game tomorrow. He his both the youngest coach to reach that mark and the one to reach it with more victories (54).

Strong rumor in Spain now , that he will leave at the end of the season ,according to a Spanish reporter on Five Live.If so could see him back at the bridge.

Jose Mourinho hails Sir Alex Ferguson

Jose Mourinho is in Manchester for Real Madrid’s UEFA Champions League tie with Manchester City and has spoken out and hailed Sir Alex Ferguson’s achievements with Manchester United over the past 26-years in charge.

Away from the pitch Mourinho and Ferguson have always had a mutual respect for each other, not only that, but enjoyed the odd glass of red together also while Jose was manager of Chelsea.

Mourinho had this to say:

“He’s unique, especially in the modern day.”

“If you go back many years, then you will find somebody like him but [it's amazing] in the modern day at the highest level, where it is really difficult to survive in our job.”

“He’s absolutely incredible at what he does and we can’t even imagine when he’ll stop. He’s unbelievable.”

Manchester United are set to unveil a brand new statue of Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford on Friday, media and fans are invited to the event which Sir Alex is rumoured to be joined by some big names that have been apart of his history at the club.

The unveiling is at 2pm at the entrance to the Sir Alex Ferguson stand, originally the North Stand.

Whoa. Never seen Mourinho speak like that before. That's some high praise. Did SAF just name him his successor or something?

I've seen him praise SAF before but this is pretty much the highest praise you can get from Mourinho. He's never going to say "he's better than me" so this is as high as it gets really from him. Calling him unbelievable. That stood out for me.

He once said Fergie is the Boss among all managers, or something to that effect. That for me said it all.

"For me, he's the boss. I call him the boss because he's the boss of the coaches and I hope that when I go back to English football he still manages Man United.'

Calderon said that he will leave Madrid in the summer. With a possible retirement of Fergie he would be my choice, even if it is just for 2-3 years.

It has to be him for Fergie's job. We do have a very decent squad and its just the naive tactics that are holding us back. Mourinho on the other hand is absolutely brilliant with tactics and would bring us up another tier, especially in the Champions League.

ps: this is in no way downplaying SAF's achievements.

Oh, it must be true then. Because Calderon isn't clueless or anything.

The circus is back in town. Does it ever go away?

Mourinho made a remark at the post-City press conference when asked about the ref along the lines of, "I've got a suspension pending." Followed by him thanking UEFA for his 100th game award plaque (which SAF apparently told him that he got).

Except Mourinho didn't get any congratulations wall plaque - it was just a little joke/dig from Mourinho towards the powers that be.

So today a UEFA official has apparently explained that Mou hasn't done 100 games yet - because he's been suspended for some of them. :D

  Yep that makes sense, don't down play Fergie's achievements just his management skills that won him/us those achievements.

You've entirely missed his point. Pretty impressive given how clearly he marked it out.

He's not saying Fergie's a bad manager or tactician. Just that his team-selection and tactics right now are seriously holding us back, which is as clear as day. Although I'm not sure 'naive' is the right word. Naive would be playing an overly attacking line-up and shipping too many goals. What we're doing at the moment is just wrong. The two man midfield and inclusion of Scholes and/or Giggs produces football which is both less effective and less attractive.

Mourinho will leave at the end of the sesion according to Marca

Yep, according to tomorrow's Marca it looks like Mourinho is set to leave at the end of the season.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has expressed his belief that Jose Mourinho would be a worthy candidate to succeed him in the Old Trafford hot seat.

The 70-year-old has been in charge at United since 1986 and has yet to reveal when he plans on stepping down from the role in order to retire.

But he has hailed the Real Madrid boss as a man with the qualities to manage the Red Devils in the future.

"He can manage anywhere, absolutely," Sir Alex told an ITV4 documentary on the Portuguese when asked if the 49-year-old could succeed him at Old Trafford.

"I would never think a guy who hasn’t played a game could be a top coach but then you’ve got to look at his personality. He’s got a marvellous, strong personality and that bridges that gap.
"I remember his first press conference [at Chelsea] and I thought, 'Christ, he’s a cocky b*****, him'. He was telling the players, 'Look, I’m the special one, we don’t lose games'.

"Bloody hell, coming to England, he is only a young man and saying he is the special one! But it told all the players to have the belief they were going to win the league."

Sir Alex went on to reveal he enjoys a close friendship with the former Chelsea boss, adding: "When he comes into my office he can take a joke against himself, that is what I like about him.

"I give him a lot of stick and he laughs it off. I don’t think it bothers Jose [having a controversial image]. He knows it is results that count."

I would suspect it would undermine Ronaldo staying much longer if Mourinho left. Might be a good time for both of them to seek a move.

I think he would go to City. I feel a man with his ego would look to start his own dynasty with City rather than continue Fergie's at United. He would have the money, squad and owners he wants with the neighbors rather than with us.

He could but it wouldn't really be an upgrade to Madrid. Only United would, and given that he's already proven he can be successful with or without money, the luster of managing United suggests it would be the only club for him. A return to Chelsea might also happen but given Roman's schizophrenic decision making, it would seem less likely.

I don't believe Chelsea will happen again. Roman is getting more impatient with each passing manager and lost touch with reality. Chelsea is "been there done that" for him. Is he looking for an upgrade in the next job or a place to build his own legacy? It's all conjecture anyways, we have no way of knowing the inner workings of his convoluted mind.

He's probably look for a club with a stable executive/ownership structure where he can actually manage for a longer period without having to deal with deluded sugar daddy owners or fair weather galactico connoisseurs like Perez.

City can offer all that along with a chance to build something bigger. His appointment at City also might force Fergie to stay here longer, which won't be a bad thing. Anyways, I don't think Sir Alex would leave just yet, when our team is clearly in transition. Providing stability after the likes of Scholes, Giggs and Rio retire is a challenge that, in my mind, he would relish.

You underestimate the lure of managing Manchester United. No sane manager would choose to manage City over United when given the chance. I doubt Fergie will manage very deep into his 70s, and Mourinho's availability would effectively guarantee he would walk in to the job if it became available.

I am not underestimating it, I am just trying to put myself in Mourinho's shoes. Also, it might not be the question of City Vs United as I don't think Fergie's job at United is finished yet. The team we have at our disposal is a work in progress and I would be disappointed if he leaves it midway. It would be better for United if Fergie leaves when the likes of DeGea, Smalling, Jones, Rafael, Cleverley, Hernandez, Welbeck etc. have matured. I don't see any other manager achieving the same results that he does with the present team. Giggs, Scholes, Rio, Vidic, Nani are all nearing an end of their United careers and the rest haven't won much. Sir Alex needs to see some of the boys in this team become men before he calls it a day. The job at United, imo, should not be available for another couple of years and I don't see Jose sticking out with Madrid for that period.
