As Sports Witness said this few days ago. If Schneiderlin doesn't sign this week we all can just stop reading all transfers rumors because if he is not United player this week it will show that the collection of the best newspapers and the best journalist are just guessing.
BBC, Sky Sports, Telegraph, they all written stories that Schneiderlin will sign for us this week and i don't think he will.

If it doesn't happen, they'll say there has been a hitch or whatever and circumstances change all the time bla bla. Basically, they can make up whatever they want and cover it up with more fantasy scenarios when it doesn't go as they predicted.

I feel like I'm defending them all the time but the BBC haven't wrote any stories about Schneiderlin. I think Nurse tweeted something, but the fact he didn't follow it up with an argument suggests it was probably just his own opinion.

When have BBC and Sky said that? Pretty convinced you're remembering wrong.

they are different players but both central midfielders, how come they play complete different positions? We all know shit which player Van Gaal wants, both players offer something else and are possible targets, none of them is replacement for fellaini, that really is weird statement

Schneiderlin is a DM, schweinsteiger is a CM with defensive box to box abilities that van gaal said he needed next to herrera. Aka fellaini's spot. Whats so hard to understand?

I wouldn't say Schneiderlin is a true DM, he has good offensive attributes and 4 goals from his position in the league last season isn't too bad. He's a great passer and not a bad dribbler too.

I think that's what you need from your "DM" these days. Isn't far off a description of Carrick.

Well yeah that's true. He's a lot more well rounded that some DM's such as Sergio Busquets or Khedira for example.

I don't like the fact that since this has seemingly gone cold, and we had a bid rejected 2 weeks ago, both Pep and Sammer have come out talking about Bastian possibly leaving. Doesn't take a genius to work out what might be going on here.

This will happen. Relax.

Think you're completely off with this "guessing" business. This info was spread to the media from someone at United or connected to Schneiderlin. If they're wrong it's because negotiations have stalled or someone with an agenda has been fibbing. I wouldn't say we should disregard major publications just because they got a story wrong. Theyre only as good as their source. And if their source is a 40 something windbag prone to exaggeration and grandstanding then sometimes a story will take longer to pan out than anticipated.

Not related, Pep and Sammer are only talking now as pre-season training has started.

A bit of an overstatement.

It has gone cold these days while rumors on Schweinsteiger has increased in number. It's quite possible one of them not either.

Gah. Still nothing. Can a friendly mod maybe do us all a favour and lock the thread pending a concrete update? Or is that a bit extreme? Only I reckon I'm one of many who checks it every time it's bumped and those dozens of tiny disappointments can get a man down...

I hope I never get like this over a transfer, really sad to see.

What the feckity feck are we waiting for? Get this one done dealio, Woody.

why not just check the twitter feed? i think we mostly come in here to discuss the transfer even if there is no news. if something happens im sure it will be in the twitter feed. that's what i do anyway. if i see something new happening i come in here to see discuss.

Agree. Being an attention whore and announcing your departure if player x does not sign and then sneakily stick around anyway is more honorable.

Don't read the transfer forum and follow @ManUtd on twitter for concrete updates.

Try tweeting 'ANNOUNCE SCHNEIDERLIN ' or 'SIGN SOMEONE FFS' everytime United Twitter account tweets something. That may speed stuff up. :p

Schneiderlin is not pure DM, he's exactly what you said about schweinsteigger, defensive minded b2b player comfortable playing as no6. Fellaini is very different player with very special role on the pitch, doesn't really play next to Herrera. Basically everything what you said is wrong. Is that you John Snow?

 You can't argue with that one @Pexbo.

Yep, bang on. Both can be the DM but are really more defensive box-to-box, and people really need to stop imagining that any actual midfielder will be 'doing Fellaini's role'. Or indeed that any other player in existence would be asked to do what Fellaini's doing. It's a unique, tailor-made role which is only marginally part of the 'midfield' anyway.

Schneiderlin is a more robust, aggressive version of Carrick. Schweinsteiger is more of a deep lying playmaker like Scholes, with lesser passing ability but a bit more flair.

If you put them both in midfield with Herrera it would definitely be Schneidy for Carrick and Schweiny for Fellaini.

I found a clear loop hole. Don't hate the player hate the game.
What was the loophole? I remember the wager being made but I can't remember past that.

If Saints really do have this set price of £24-25m and we're legitimately interested it is becoming a bit strange that there is little progress at this stage.

If you piss away £32m on Luke Shaw and pay £28m for Ander Herrera, I'm not entirely sure what the reason for the stall is on this? It seems a fairly reasonable asking price for a player who has been on an upward curve in English football since he made his move.

But I try to avoid going full muppet, so here's to hoping it's nothing to worry about and all will be sealed in the near future.

How are schweinsteiger & schneiderlin even related to each other in terms of transfers. They play in two complete different positions. One will be a replacement fkr carrick and the other a replacement for fellaini.

I think schweini would be more a backup to Herrera, unless he moves Herrera to Fellaini's role as an advanced playmaker/ target man hybrid. Even then, Fellaini's role is more of a custom made fit and I don't see anyone else capable of doing what he does. I don't think our offense could survive with our front 3 and Herrera being our most attacking midfielder if Schweini replaces Fellaini in the lineup.

For all we know there could be good progress being made.

I reckon the title will change if anything meaningful happens. If you want to avoid general jabber, just wait for that, bud.

This.

Negotiations/Contracts take a long damn time. It doesn't matter how quick one side wants it to happen, if both sides aren't on the same wavelength it'll chug along. Plus if you start giving the vibe that you're desperate, you'll get taken to the cleaners. It's a long transfer window and this has already picked up quickly, just because something isn't happening today, tomorrow, next week (or isn't being reported) doesn't mean it's not happening.

Websites/Papers/Twitter talk so much bollocks about who we're bidding on everyday just to get attention/clicks. Trust in the club to get it done. I personally think we'll nail some big signings in the coming month. Just because I don't see minute to minute, day to day progress on them with more news has no reason to make me think Woody is just sitting on his ass and tickling his balls.

United's relationship with Southampton sounds very solid.

With Shaw last year; no bickering or to-ing and fro-ing. But IIRC it wasn't a case of waking up one morning and finding out we had agreed a fee. There was some initial media talk that United were going in strongly for Shaw, then it quietened down a bit, before the signing was confirmed. Am I misremembering?

I have a feeling the same thing is happening here.

We should remember that we are buying another club's player and the fans of that club want to see their club fighting to keep a player. They don't want to see Southampton take the first bid they get any more than we want to see United accept Real's first offer for DDG. But for all we know Soton and Utd have not only agreed a fee but agreed a strategy for breaking the transfer too.

United either want Schneiderlin (in which case a deal has been done and we're just letting Southampton play out the string for the sake of their image) or we don't and the media are just making stuff up. I will go for the first one.
