This, and that he only had one year left on his contract.
Yeah that affected the price. I'm just talking about his overall quality as well. £10-15m is about right for him regardless of how long he has left on his contract.

Clyne reeks of 'meh'. He's alright but I don't rate him as much as some Liverpool fans are right now. Phil 'The Fish' Jones gets in at RB ahead of him for England!

I agree Clyne is meh but that argument about Jones means nothing.

Jones must be one of the worst players to have on that position. What people still see in that guy I don't know, I turely don't. He is not good defensively and he is not good offensively. Not intelligent enough for CB, not skillfull enough for RB. On top of that always injurred.

I'm just pointing out that Hodgson has clearly compared the two and decided to pick Jones. Imo Jones isn't bad defensively, he's just ridiculously clumsy!

He's definitely a centre back though. Like you said he isn't skilful or quick enough for RB, although he does do those runs occasionally like a Donkey that's just been branded.

A very bad quality for a good centreback

On top of that his positioning is bad which often results into him having to try and defend difficult situations that shouldn't have occured in the first place.

Positioning is key, interceptions only when you have to make them and on the right time.

Jones just runs around like a dog chasing a ball but and is than even often too clumsy to make a decent intervention when he needs to. It is painfull to watch and we just gave that bafoon a new contract for £80k a week... And than people are having a dig at lfc for Clyne go figure.

Let's agree to disagree

Right there's clearly nothing happening at all in the transfer market for us At the moment so I'm having a couple of days off the caf. It's driving me insane logging on every couple of hours to see the latest 'signing'.

So looks like there maybe a Shyamalanesque twist for schweini. Maybe we want to get done with that and then concentrate on Morgan

Anybody else think this has been put on pause because of the renewed schweinsteiger talk?. seems like we've been given fresh hope in signing him recently, and since then it's all gone a little quiet with schneiderlin. Hope we aren't considering 1 or the other, we should be going for both.

If it is, I'd pull my hair out.

Same here. He's almost the perfect fit for us in terms of position, age, ability and used to the league!. If we pull out to sign a 30+ midfielder with no further ambition it will do my head in.

Think about Shaw and Clyne. Both Liverpool and ourselves had initial bids rejected only for Southampton to accept similar amounts a week or so later.

Lets get some facts out of the way:
Schneiderlin will leave Southampton, that's for sure. Given last years saga, I'm pretty certain they agreed to sell him if he co-operated through the 14/15 season.
Three interested teams: Spurs, Arsenal and United - only one can realistically acquire him (wages and fee).
We bid £20m, Saints rejected knowing we'd increase our bid.
We go back to negotiations, but keep our interest in Schweinsteiger public just for Southampton. (Yes, you could say they don't need to sell him, but he wants to leave which is something, I believe, was promised to him by the club). This is illustrated by the silence over the last few days.
We'll end up agreeing the same fee + add ons, soon.
We're not stupid, we're sh*t at agreeing deals, but we're not stupid. We know he'll improve us massively, and we'll get him.

Yep, same. I don't think there is a better option in the world just now for what we are looking for in midfield than Schneiderlin, based on his age, about to hit his peak years, proven PL quality and the individual qualities he has. Would be the perfect player to have as a Carrick supplement, and eventually a Carrick replacement.

A total profile signing who ticks every box required, and wouldn't need the bank breaking open for.

If we prioritise Schweinsteiger and pass on Schneiderlin, in 2 or 3 years time, we will be back on the market for a player just like Schneiderlin. Cut out the time wasting. Schneiderlin could be our midfield anchor for the next 8 years+.

I know, right? Who would haggle over a FEW MILLION quid!!!:devil:

Because it is 10% of the transfer fee. If we took the same logic on every transfer the club would be able to afford less top players.

We are an extremely rich club but we don't have an endless pit of money and the owners still want to make money.

And when we miss out on one or two league positions or even a trophy due to not signing the most obvious and gettable midfield improvement since Keano it will cost a lot more than the £5,000,000 we were so concerned about saving.

Agree with this. I don't think buying Schweinsteiger makes much sense and if we choose him over Schneiderlin then that's extremely short term thinking that is unlikely to pay off.

Agree with everything you've said, Schneiderlin makes sense for us on every level, we really should be getting both midfielders as Bastian will spend half the time injured anyways.

I guess the real question has to be do we make sense for Schneiderlin?
Would he start most games alongside (or instead of) Carrick... Or would he mainly be backup for Carrick?
At his age I am sure he wants to play regularly (get a good paycheck and play in the CL) - and perhaps Arsenal offers a better (or at least an equal) opportunity - as well as that London lifestyle which some players seem to want.

I would be happy if we signed him but wouldnt blame him if he fancied Arsenal more - nor would I be that bothered if he did go there either as there are a number of players we could target in that area of the field

I think with the rise of Coquelin Arsenal doesn't need Schneiderlin, we are in pole position to sign him especially as he will only move to a club which offers Champions League football.
If we do not sign him it will be a terrible oversight on our part IMO.

You think he's better than carrick already? Wow
he's that good, some people here will be surprised that we can actually play good without Carrick, we would actually know this season if we bought someone better than Blind and didn't wait for so long to replace Carras seasons before..

And to be exact I don't compare them and say that one is better than another but I think our game will be raised with Schneid on the pitch more than with Carrick, it will massively help our defensive play and provide options to field dimaria back in midfield which is kinda unthinkable for Van Gaal now who loves his balance and in this regard you can only agree with him, Herrera would be also freed to have a more attacking role. I don't also think that Carrick is suited to 4-3-3 that much at 34 years old week in week out..

The variant with fresh Carrick and Schneiderlin at the base would as well be great for tough away games...

Maybe he was just scouting the physical conditioning of their U21's this week after the summer break ahead of next year's annual raid :nervous:

They take time you know.

they don't take time, They go like this.....

Ed: Morgan, luke Shaw gave me your number, do ya fancy signing for the greatest team in the world.

Schneiderlin: yeah sounds like a plan

Ed: I'll send a chopper for you on Saturday morning, it'll give me time to go to the bank and get Southampton a cheque for £25,000,000. I'll send it Friday special delivery and we will iron out your terms and contract Saturday afternoon you'll have a medical sunday and all being well you can get signed up sunday night then we can announce it officially on Monday to get the caf numpties excited Lord knows they need it.

Monday dinner time Morgan Schneiderlin is a United player and everyone is happy. It's so bloody simple this transfer stuff.

How are schweinsteiger & schneiderlin even related to each other in terms of transfers. They play in two complete different positions. One will be a replacement fkr carrick and the other a replacement for fellaini.
they are different players but both central midfielders, how come they play complete different positions? We all know shit which player Van Gaal wants, both players offer something else and are possible targets, none of them is replacement for fellaini, that really is weird statement
