And how much have they played this season? Besides Illaramendi is an overrated player who was signed on the back of a Euro U-21 tournament for a ridiculous amount of money. I will be surprised if Illaramendi stays at Madrid longer. We will see what happens to Lucas Silva. Some rumours that Madrid are looking to loan him out.
Irrelevant. Madrid do sign non-galactico players. Doesn't matter what will happen to him. They did sign him.

With regards to interest from other clubs, maybe Schneiderlin has made clear his desire to only join us.Who knows. I am afraid that the argument that 'Oh he's not a great player because no one else is in him' is too simplistic in my opinion.
You've got the point the wrong way around. I'm not saying that he's a bad player because noone else is interested, I'm saying that if he's a good player others can be interested.

Well, Kondogbia would have been another. Like I said I'm not their biggest fan. But the point was there's still midfielders out there. I'd prefer Schneiderlin though and I'm quite confident we'll sign Schneiderlin.

I was surprised Kondogbia went to Inter, he seemed like a really good choice for several clubs including ourselves and Arsenal. I hope your confidence is well placed mate, I might be a bit cautious but I do like the fact I've seen a lot of Schneiderlin and know he can play well in the PL.

This is what I need educating on. So I agree a fit Carrick plays. So then Scneiderlin plays box to box right. Something I wouldn't say he's one of the best at. At Southampton he has Wanyama correct doing the sitting largely? I'm just wary he's not benefitting from a set up which at United wont be there as much. Do we need more a connector type next to Carrick ala Modric, or a box to box who also gets forward and scores goals...say Gerrard...just need a little clarification?

I think the midfield can be mixed and matched to a degree, the best example I can think of is when Juve have Pirlo sitting and Vidal and Marchisio as the box to box CM's in front of him doing the leg work. I think we could use Herrera and Schneiderlin this way very effectively, with Herrera getting extra attacking license.

Ups sorry then. Pjanić is a good player but he tends to pick games in which he decides to care.

Very talented player and when on his game he's great to watch, but he does seem switch off mentally too often.

It was Everton. His name was Thomas Gravesen. He was good for Everton but was way out of his depth at Madrid.
Funnily enough, Thomas Gravesen at Madrid crossed my mind today. He looked as much of a Real Madrid player as Mathieu looks a La Masia product.

Ah ok I think I'm clear with the set up I recall NL saying LVG likes 2 defensive minded players I think in the midfield so thats probably it.

Madrid went through a phase of signing odd players like Gravesen, Faubert (loan) and Woodgate.

Starting to stink like Thiago. Fannied about when it looked safe as houses, and then Bayern just waltzed him away. Arsenal could easily cough up the money tomorrow and drag him away, whilst we're still tying a derisory bid to the foot of a carrier pigeon.

Get the Woodycopter to hover over St Mary's, throw down a ladder and fly Schneiderlin to Champions League safety. What's the freakin' hold up?

Actually they said Man United never contacted their camp...Southampton have at least confirmed we have.

I think Woodgate was class but yeah your point remains.

He was a class act but never a Madrid player. His debut was a shambles and he never recovered. Owen was also a weird signing as they seemed intent on not playing him. I always wonder how a Woodgate without his injury problems would have fared.

As for Schneiderlin, he's one I really want. I think the guy is class and would add a lot to our team.

At Southampton Wanyama played as the deepest midfielder and Schneiderlin played ahead of him as a box to box midfielder. There's nothing to be wary about to be honest. In fact in Europe, in the tough away fixtures I wouldn't mind a 4-3-3 with a pairing of Carrick,Schneiderlin and Herrera. Now that is a solid partnership.

Carrick is getting older and won't be playing as many games as we would like. The advantage of signing Schneiderlin, is that he can play as the deepest midfielder in a 4-3-3 and just as easily play next to Carrick as a box to box midfielder.

I may be wrong but Thiago was never safe or anything close to that.

Irrelevant. Madrid do sign non-galactico players. Doesn't matter what will happen to him. They did sign him.

Signing him and not playing him isn't exactly irrelevant. They could sign half a dozen of them and still not play any of them because they want galacticos out on the pitch.

Only if they knew that the player was interested in the move. If clubs know that the desire of the player is to play elsewhere then they wouldn't bother expressing their interest.

In which case they can still sign non-galactico players. Not sure why you're arguing despite agreeing with me.

I didn't say otherwise. But we don't know that yet about this player.

If we miss out on him because we're haggling over a difference of £5million, it would just be ridiculous.
It's only July 1st. Southampton will be expecting a bit of haggling at this stage in the window. Neither side is in any rush. It's all a part of the dance.

Maybe we've just done it so Schneiderlin knows we're serious about wanting him, so he'll keep Spurs, and Arsenal on the backburner thinking we will return for him, but we are really waiting on Scnweinsteiger's final decision before we go in with the clinching bid.

My theory anyway.

He's definitely worth £25M....just got a feeling he is not our number 1 target.

I see no difference with so the called reputable journos and the jokeshop called Indykalia!
