How many feel this signing..if it happens solves our midfield 'problems'?

This signing would definitely add steel and spine to our midfield, which has been seriously lacking all these years. Although one may argue that we still need more creativity, or someone who could take up Carrick role of playmaking. But I do think Schneiderlin+Herrera would form a very strong partnership in years to come.

I think Depay-Di Maria tandem will be used a lot in big games and tough away games where LvG might prefer a counter attacking setup. At home, he might prefer Mata in the middle due to his ability to score and create when teams park the bus.

Depay and di Maria are key for our ability to add the acceleration into our game to stretch teams, which will be key to counter teams away from home, which players like Ashley Young fail to offer United

I have steered well clear of any Ramos talk but I'm getting sucked into this one. I would absolutely love if we sign he, the guy is sheer class.

If we get Schweinsteiger as well, great.

If not, our midfield is a hell of a lot stronger and more balanced with the addition of Schneiderlin. Plus we might see Pearson get a few games if there's space!

Agree with what you've said - he'll be coming in as Carrick's eventual successor, but actually looks more adaptable.

As an aside, I see he's under six foot - funny, because whenever I've seen him play, he's always looked towering to me.
Yeah I thought he'd be upwards of 6'2 as well.

The defensive solidity provided by him and Carrick would free up Di Maria out wide. That alone makes him a brilliant signing, even if he's not dictating the play personally.
That's what I'm anticipating as well: unleash Di Maria and Memphis.

Morgan Schneiderlin is the 'right' player for us at this moment in time. He more or less fits the bill with what we want, he is physically strong and powerful player who can break up play, but is also a very footballer as well. Our team will automatically look better with him in it and I really hope we are finalising a deal. I can see him playing as a more defensive box to box midfielder alongside Carrick with option of playing the deepest in midfield as well.

If we get Schneiderlin, then Van Gaal must be looking to go with a 4231/4213 next season, which would make sense as he made it clear he wants a holding midifelder in the Summer. By doing this, it would allow the four attacking players more freedom to go and express themselves, whilst we'd have two defensive minded players behind them to cover.

I guess its similar to how Southampton played last season, where they had Wanyama and Schneiderlin screening the defence, which is why it comes as no surprise that Southampton boasted such a great defensive record.

I think if for example we have Carrick and Schneiderlin in front of the back four, it'd even allow Van Gaal to play Mata as CAM. It would also give more freedom for someone like Di Maria to run riot.

If we get Schneiderlin and play a 4213, I'd be very happy to see a front six of:

Schneiderlin - Carrick
Mata
Di Maria - Rooney - Depay

Any lineup without Herrera in it is bannable offense on caf :nono:

Surely Schneiderlin would rotate with Carrick, not play alongside him.

Howard Nurse is now saying it will be announced on Wednesday.....he's as cautious as they come!

Absolutely ridiculous to be honest.
Simply daft may I add because Herrera has been one of, if not our most productive player last season.

Anyway, the signing of schneiderlin will be great insurance to our midfield. Dependant on his ability, he could oust Carrick from our starting eleven and make a great future replacement in that number 6 role. However, a duel midfield of Carrick alongside Schneiderlin may be too defense and lack creativity. I rather have Schneiderlin in the number 6 role rather than in the number 8 position.

Odd that the likes of BBC and Sky Sports haven't written an article on it yet in that case. Surely they'd have sniffed something by now?

van Gaal has always talked about his balance which is what Schneiderlin will offer. He's not going to bring balance sitting on the bench.

I don't really agree with set starting XIs anyway so it is all semantics. It all depends on who the opponent is.

There's just been a MEN article posted in the twitter thread with quotes from LVG -http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/manchester-united-how-schneiderlin-forced-9542892-95

Sounds to me like he views them both as his 'number 6'. With the extra CL fixtures and Carricks injury record I expect they'll both get plenty of game time. Plus like you say, there's no reason why both won't play together against certain opposition.

That link ain't working, for me anyway. Any chance you can post the article.

But it's perfectly fine to leave Carrick out the team? :wenger:

Herrera was great in the second part of the season in midfield, as was Fellaini, but the teams performance dropped significantly when one man was injured and that's Carrick, not Herrera. So if anything, the 'bannable' offence should be positing a line-up without Carrick.

Having said that, I could have put either one of Herrera or Mata in the front six I posted; however, I went with Mata because he gets his fair share of goals and assists when playing behind the forward.

Theres a territorial style to van gaals play that might make Schneiderlin a wonderful player under the right circumstances. Most teams will play with one ball playing CB and One stopper CB in their defensive line up.

However; if we play with two ball playing centre backs, we will have even more passing ability than we did when carrick played by himself last year. 2 ball playing CB's and Schneiderlin can act as the stopper.

This arises from the 352 we played with last season which happens to be a defensive alternative of the 433.

Bah, you took it too seriously. My comment was more to do with fondness of Herrera on caf.
On that topic, on occasions I won't mind seeing the lineup you posted. The best part if we get both Schweini and Schneiderlin will be options to try different combinations without hampering quality or style of play.

I know. Sorry, but that was more in response to the posts below yours, who were saying it was 'ridicilous', 'daft', etc.

Fee agreed?

Edit: looks as though people are being silly cnuts again on Twitter. Sorry for any premature excitement caused.

My Twitter exploded about five minutes ago.

People saying Sky Sports reporting a £24m fee agreed.

Please don't shoot the messenger if it's bullshit.

Yeah I thought they announced it on TV maybe because it's not their *online or on their Twitter account. Most of those United accounts are crediting SsN saying fee agreed

Edit : *there.
