How many feel this signing..if it happens solves our midfield 'problems'?
It would solve a lot of problems, but i feel we need another one when Carrick doesnt play, controlling and dictating the tempo. Ideally Schweinsteiger.

It goes a long way. Could do with another number in so we can get out the likes of Fellaini. How many feel this signing..if it happens solves our midfield 'problems'?
Saw Schneiderlin a few times for Southampton last year. Comfortable on the ball, alert and always looking to trigger things. Carrick-esque.

I think Depay-Di Maria tandem will be used a lot in big games and tough away games where LvG might prefer a counter attacking setup. At home, he might prefer Mata in the middle due to his ability to score and create when teams park the bus.
Last summer's signings solved a few. Hopefully this summer's solve more. How many feel this signing..if it happens solves our midfield 'problems'?
Yeah I thought he'd be upwards of 6'2 as well.Agree with what you've said - he'll be coming in as Carrick's eventual successor, but actually looks more adaptable.
As an aside, I see he's under six foot - funny, because whenever I've seen him play, he's always looked towering to me.
That's what I'm anticipating as well: unleash Di Maria and Memphis. The defensive solidity provided by him and Carrick would free up Di Maria out wide. That alone makes him a brilliant signing, even if he's not dictating the play personally.
it's on then!He's the club's photographer, right?
If we get Schneiderlin, then Van Gaal must be looking to go with a 4231/4213 next season, which would make sense as he made it clear he wants a holding midifelder in the Summer. By doing this, it would allow the four attacking players more freedom to go and express themselves, whilst we'd have two defensive minded players behind them to cover.
I guess its similar to how Southampton played last season, where they had Wanyama and Schneiderlin screening the defence, which is why it comes as no surprise that Southampton boasted such a great defensive record.
I think if for example we have Carrick and Schneiderlin in front of the back four, it'd even allow Van Gaal to play Mata as CAM. It would also give more freedom for someone like Di Maria to run riot.
If we get Schneiderlin and play a 4213, I'd be very happy to see a front six of:
Schneiderlin - Carrick
Mata
Di Maria - Rooney - Depay
Pretty hilarious to see line-ups without him.Any lineup without Herrera in it is bannable offense on caf
Pretty hilarious to see line-ups without him.
Simply daft may I add because Herrera has been one of, if not our most productive player last season.Absolutely ridiculous to be honest.
Howard Nurse is now saying it will be announced on Wednesday.....he's as cautious as they come!
van Gaal has always talked about his balance which is what Schneiderlin will offer. He's not going to bring balance sitting on the bench.Surely Schneiderlin would rotate with Carrick, not play alongside him.

I don't really agree with set starting XIs anyway so it is all semantics. It all depends on who the opponent is.

Sounds to me like he views them both as his 'number 6'. With the extra CL fixtures and Carricks injury record I expect they'll both get plenty of game time. Plus like you say, there's no reason why both won't play together against certain opposition.

I'd say any lineup without Carrick is hilarious. Considering our stats with and without him last season.

Bah, you took it too seriously. My comment was more to do with fondness of Herrera on caf.But it's perfectly fine to leave Carrick out the team?
Herrera was great in the second part of the season in midfield, as was Fellaini, but the teams performance dropped significantly when one man was injured and that's Carrick, not Herrera. So if anything, the 'bannable' offence should be positing a line-up without Carrick.
Having said that, I could have put either one of Herrera or Mata in the front six I posted; however, I went with Mata because he gets his fair share of goals and assists when playing behind the forward.

On that topic, on occasions I won't mind seeing the lineup you posted. The best part if we get both Schweini and Schneiderlin will be options to try different combinations without hampering quality or style of play.
Fee agreed?
Wut?Fee agreed?
My Twitter exploded about five minutes ago.
People saying Sky Sports reporting a £24m fee agreed.
Please don't shoot the messenger if it's bullshit.
