I think quite a few people will be suprised just how good he is as a DM. He isn't even playing as a DM for Southampton (Wanyama is) and still looks like this good. I think he'll compete with Matic as the best DM in the league next year.

Maybe not a world class signing, but I think he'll prove to be one of the best signings in recent years. With him and Depay we are off to a great start in this window.

The only available option this transfer window, realistically. Good player, he'll be useful. We'd be idiots not to go for him.

Think that Man Utd might get him now. Apparently the wages United are offering, would make him the third best paid player at Arsenal ahead of the likes of Ramsey, Wilshere and others, so we pulled out.

How tall is MS....he looks over 6ft but could be wrong?

Didn't LVG complain the side wasn't tall enough-with Carrick, Fellaini and MS we probably have one of the tallest midfield in the PL.

Where do we think he ranks in terms of PL midfielders?
Had three consistently good to great seasons in the Premiership, and is on the cusp of getting to the next level. He'll be provided with the perfect opportunity to do so at United, the only thing left for him is to take the chance with both hands. I'd say outside of Chelsea with Matic, he'd get into any of the other top 4 or 5 teams as a starter. We have Carrick winding down, City have struggled to replace Barry with Fernandinho preferring to go further up and Fernandon't being well, Fernandon't. Arsenal's need for a player of the ilk of Schneiderlin has been well known, and Liverpool...

I'd be delighted if we signed him for £25 million. I feel like Southampton could get £30 million for him

Herrera is apparently 6ft as well.

I'm excited like when we signed Carrick about this one.

I've seen him play live a few times as I live in Southampton. This time next year (assuming he does sign) he'll be truly appreciated. My Saints supporting pals haven't shut up about him for a good few years so wanted to see what he was all about.

Pretty much. What is it you don't like about him?

Not really sure what's not too like? He really ticks all the box's required for his position.
The main reason why I don't want him is because he'd worsen our build-up play. If we put him in the team instead of Carrick, we'd be without a proper playmaker in the midfield who can hit long balls as well as short. Schneiderlin is great defensively, yes, but a midfield consisting of him, Herrera and someone else (bar Mata but he won't play CM or CAM because he isn't defensive enough) is without a proper playmaker. Di Maria wouldn't fill the hole if he was to play in the central midfield because he's way too inconsistent in his passing. So is Rooney. Our buildup-play was not nearly good enough last season and adding a midfielder who wouldn't improve that it just wrong in my eyes. Schneiderlin would be a great addition if we were struggling defensively but we're not. We need to improve our build-up with midfielders who can pass the ball around with great accuracy and pace, like Fabregas, Gündogan or Sahin. If we had someone like those ahead of the CDM, I'd be fine with buying Schneiderlin although I rate Luiz Gustavo higher than him.

He's 5"11 I thought he fair bit taller than that

We are going in for Schweinsteiger also if you believe some reports, problem solved if we get him :)

Getting him will already start softening the blow of losing De Gea, by being more solid on and off the ball.

Absolutely, if we get Schweini I'd be fine with Schneiderlin. I'm just worried of seeing a central midfield where the best passer of the ball is Herrera (not that he's a bad passer, but he isn't great, his passing range is kind of shit).

I agree with your view, Schneiderlin is a good passer, but he doesn't have the ability to dictate play like Carrick/Schweini. Schweini (deep-lying playmaker), Schneiderlin (box-to-box) and Herrera (Creative midfielder) would be a good trio, with Carrick, Fellaini and Peirera as other options.

Agreed. Schneiderlin could work very well with those kinds of players surrounding him.

I really agree with this. Carrick (and to a lesser extent Blind) is the only tempo dictating midfielder we have got. So when he's out, our possession football looks quite awful.

Fixed.

You need Carrick and Depay for Herrera & Di Maria
switching carrick for herrera would take away much needed creativity, inventiveness and mobility from the midfield for me, can't have him and schweini on at the same time.

depay can rotate with mata and angel until he can hold down a position on his own.

That's the stuff. Depay for Mata and ADM on the right would be sweet too.

Depay is going to have a limited amount of starts for us this season. I'm thinking around 20ish. But I'd put him in there for certain games where his ability to beat a man would be more important than Mata's ball retention and passing.

Also I don't think Carrick will play many games this year (I hope he does, but I have a feeling this is a transition year in terms of younger players replacing older players).

Hererra is a bit odd. He hasn't got a great range of passing and he can be a bit inconsistent with his weight of pass but he's quite creative and is well capable of a really incisive pass. Mata's first goal against Liverpool being a good example.

I think he'll thrive in a midfield where other players do the fetching and carrying and his job is to do nothing other than create.
