For £25 million jesus, he's not worth that.
That's the going rate for an established premier league player who's an international.

Does anyone have a link to the story/tweet?
Sport witness don't even poo poo it
I'd say that's fair value. He's young and the best player at a top half Premiership team. That's a fair chunk of the 25 million just there. Add in that he's in high demand (if the rumours are to be believed) and the price seems fair. For £25 million jesus, he's not worth that.

Remember, top top talent goes for way north of £50 million nowadays. Prices are completely through the roof. £25 million isn't actually that much in football any more.
Carrick took a while to settle, coming from being the main man at Spurs to fighting for a place at Man Utd. His weakness has always been his inability to impose himself, if he'd had that he'd be a great player rather a very good player.
Indeed. 25m is squad player prices in the modern market.
King was your best player but Carrick was the man who made things tick in a way he never replicated at Man Utd.Ledley King was the main man at Spurs, not Carrick. However, your assessment of Carrick is true.
Stop, please stop, you're killing me.King was your best player but Carrick was the man who made things tick in a way he never replicated at Man Utd.
He was pretty much a one man midfield the last time we won the league. Without him I don't think we'd have come close that season.King was your best player but Carrick was the man who made things tick in a way he never replicated at Man Utd.
Cold rainy night at stoke? What did people talk about before 442 died and the is he a #6 or is he an #8 debate ensued?
People saying he's not worth 25m in this day and age are foolish. If lallana/fellaini went for more then it's a very fair price.
Fact is we won't find a Carrick replacement in terms of attributes. That person doesn't exist. However, Schneirderlin would ultimately take his place within the 11 at the base of the midfield.

Utterly insane. I remember my old man having a fit when Tottenham paid £200,000 for Martin Peters saying football had gone mad.
Seen a few of comparisons with Carrick, and I just don't see it.
Carrick's biggest attribute (and the primary reason why he's sorely missed in the starting XI) is his ability to control the rhythm of the match - he has an innate clock which allowes him to retain the ball with consummate ease when we need to lower the tempo, or spread it efficiently to more attacking players when we need to go on the offensive. There are very few players who can do that on a consistent basis, and even fewer who offer a similar degree of defensive astuteness. He is essentially a #6 Xabi Alonso type of player whose forte is his excellent passing range from deeper areas, alongwith great positional awareness to shore up the defensive third of the pitch - which makes him an ideal 'defensive' midfielder for our system.
Schneiderlin on the other hand, is stylistically like Blaise Matuidi or even a watered down version of Vidal - a turbocharged, versatile, primarily box-to-box #8 midfielder who provides a bit of everything, has very few weaknesses to his game, but might not be able to influence the game in which Carrick can. So the thing is, even if we do sign him, Van Gaal will still need someone who can replace Carrick as the subsidiary playmaker of the team for the longer term. Essentially Schneiderlin is more like Van Gaal's alternate to Strootman, someone who could potentially dislodge Fellaini and maybe bring more defensive balance to the team - in the way Owen Hargreaves did for Fergie's European Cup winners. Infact Hargreaves might be the perfect stylistic and functional comparison for Schneiderlin, rather than Carrick.
It's all too much at the minute. The thought of having more than one centre midfielder who isnt flat-footed.
When you look at how much sponsors are now paying United, how much the TV deals are worth, and the cost of tickets, £25m for a quality player is not expensive.
Against Chelsea (away) this season. Man of the match; WhoScored.com gave him an 8.8 for the game.
His defensive contribution? Not all players on the pitch need to offer great creativity or dribbling going forward. He would add that balance LvG has been crying for.Manages to get his foot in a few times which probably got him man of the match. Other than that, bang average. His passing isn't that great and he looks rushed underea pressure. Plays a few long balls out wide to his fullback that has them running towards their own byline, which isnt ideal.
I've never been massively impressed by him. He's looked ok for France a few times, but I never judge on international performances. He's a bit of a Cabaye type figure on here for me - most think he's the bee's knees but I don't really see anything special.
