however would we sign player who is currently injured? I mean it's not serious injury

I don't believe the rumour, seems a bit too random for me.

Only thing that is keeping me on the pessimistic side of this rumour is that it makes too much sense. We should all know by now that players who are truly perfect for us never really sign for us.

I know what you mean, it's come out of nowhere so not sure I do. But it's not random in the sense he's Premier League proven in a position we need and probably available for the right price. I hope it is true.

Probably because it is. There would be far more to it by now if it were true.

Seems to be the case. I know some of the journalists are a bit useless right now, but I would trust them when it comes to players playing in England. We were heavily linked with Shaw before we got him.

As do I. IMO he would be great for us, I would love for this to be true but I don't see it, we haven't been linked with him at all before this.

All you sad feckers who doesn't want to join the muppet party can go away, personally i will celebrate all night like it's a done deal!

This would be one hell of a great signing if it happens. God I love the silly season of transfer speculation :D

Haven't we had success before with an un-fancied mid twenties Frenchman signing from a smaller club?

I've said for a while now that he's the most obvious successor to Carrick. Would be a great signing, possibly crucial.

He'd be one of the most sensible buys we've made in years. I'm not hopeful, but I'd be thrilled if this were to be true.

Great physique for the middle. They'll be a bidding war so would be nice to come on top again against medals rich Arsenal.

Gotta say, getting Schneiderlin and Depay as our first two signings of the window would be an amazing start.

Metro and Mirror are also reporting it (take with a pinch of salt)

From the way Van Gaal talks about a 'right footed holding midfielder, it suggest that he might go with two holders and an attacking midfielder next season. If this is the case, Carrick holding, whilst Schneiderlin plays box to box would be great, in my opinion. It would also mean Schneiderlin could play as a 6, with Herrera coming in as an 8, if/when Carrick is injured/rested.

Closest thing there is to Carrick, so this would really be a dream signing to me.
I've said for a while now that he's the most obvious successor to Carrick.

Seen a few of comparisons with Carrick, and I just don't see it.

Carrick's biggest attribute (and the primary reason why he's sorely missed in the starting XI) is his ability to control the rhythm of the match - he has an innate clock which allowes him to retain the ball with consummate ease when we need to lower the tempo, or spread it efficiently to more attacking players when we need to go on the offensive. There are very few players who can do that on a consistent basis, and even fewer who offer a similar degree of defensive astuteness. He is essentially a #6 Xabi Alonso type of player whose forte is his excellent passing range from deeper areas, alongwith great positional awareness to shore up the defensive third of the pitch - which makes him an ideal 'defensive' midfielder for our system.

Schneiderlin on the other hand, is stylistically like Blaise Matuidi or even a watered down version of Vidal - a turbocharged, versatile, primarily box-to-box #8 midfielder who provides a bit of everything, has very few weaknesses to his game, but might not be able to influence the game in which Carrick can. So the thing is, even if we do sign him, Van Gaal will still need someone who can replace Carrick as the subsidiary playmaker of the team for the longer term. Essentially Schneiderlin is more like Van Gaal's alternate to Strootman, someone who could potentially dislodge Fellaini and maybe bring more defensive balance to the team - in the way Owen Hargreaves did for Fergie's European Cup winners. Infact Hargreaves might be the perfect stylistic and functional comparison for Schneiderlin, rather than Carrick.

If he comes, he's the first player we have who I can say I've watched for a long time pre-hype. Get in! I finally get some e-points.

Would still like us to go for Schweinsteiger too if we can get him for a good price. His experience and ability would be great.

Would make a lot of sense given Carrick's age and the need for a cover/replacement who is premiership proven and ready to step up a level. Not the quickest but seems to read the game well and has a presence.
