Just waiting for Mark Ogden or Jamie Jackson to come out with the "***** isn't a Manchester United target" tweet.

I would love him here. Has a potential to be a Carrick-esque player - not in terms of style, he is more defensive and an inferior passer, but in terms of their overall level - not quite world class, but very good and one of the best in the league (which he already is, actually). Hard to think of many superior DM's today, bar Busquets and Matic.

How old is he....I get the impression he has been around for years at Southampton so must be 27+?

What do those say?
"I remember Schneiderlin in his first season in the PL when he played deeper. I think he averaged 4 interceptions and tackles per game."
"There we go. 3.9 interceptions (#1 in the league) and 4.1 successful tackles (#2 in the league) per game on average."

If I recall correctly French canal+ sport have been rather reliable with their information regarding things connected with the French as well as Ligue 1 matters so shit just got real.

Like Raoul said it's only one source, we should keep in mind the Hazard Saga.

How many good sources are claiming this. I am a huge fan of his and don't want to be disappointed if we do not sign him

edit: just read @JPRouve post above.

won't get too excited until we sign him for good... though we're finally starting to be linked with him

This, I imagine, is like most sudden transfer stories about previously unmentioned transfer targets: designed to flush out or hurry along other interested parties.

His name is incredibly difficult to spell. Imagine in the match day thread when he is our player having to spell him name really quick. Sch seems ok.

It could also be like Mata, Herrera, ADM and Falcao.

Does he have a good passing range and the calming influence that Carrick carries

I don't think he really offers either but that's not necessarily a problem. Much like Herrera he possesses a broad skillset and with that the ability to play in multiple positions in multiple setups. Ultimately that means that we can decide whether the third midfielder will be a deep-lying playmaker like Carrick of an advanced playmaker like Sneijder (for example) depending on what's available. Ultimately we will still need to replace those two qualities Carrick (and previously Scholes and Keane) possess because they are what allowed them to dictate the tempo of the game and I don't think either of Schneiderlin or Herrera have that in them, but between them they cover pretty much all of the bases outside of that.

I'd say Schneiderlin is replacing Fellaini in the starting XI and we're still looking at how to replace Carrick. The key thing Schneiderlin offers in all this is flexibility. Defensively sound enough to play at the base of the midfield and allow someone more attacking to come in and dictate the play but comfortable enough on the ball to play alongside Herrera with someone slightly deeper dictating things. In the short-term the Carrick-Schneiderlin-Herrera trio ticks all the boxes.

Its one of the few surnames that always requires me to backspace.
