The feck. I went to sleep with a smile on my face because we've just signed Darmian and Schweinsteiger. Woke up to the news of Schneiderlin confirmed as well

I'd be a bit 'meh' about him if we hadn's signed Schwein but with him in the squad as well, I'm all in for Schneiderlin.

GET IN!!!!!!!
Woodward I love you.

I remember that. Just hope folks get their heads around the fact that he's much more than just holding midfielder - he's an all-rounder with a bit more developing with us..

I think instead of developing Schneiderlin going forward, we will develop him retracting backwards backwards; so that he is able to be a DM who can occasionally drop in to defence in the same way that carrick does. This little movement enables us to switch from 433 to 352 during game and is important to our shape because we want out wing backs going forward without it being a hindrance.

We dont need Schneiderlin to go forward do we? Schweinsteriger, herrera, di maria, peirera even fellaini are all capable of going forward.

So this tweet from back in June really was a massive hint as to what was to come...Amazing

I'm now going to moan about gifs, so prepare for boredom:

Ahem. There are too many gifs on this site (not including the excellent efforts by Olly, Code, Sam etc etc.) By the time each thread loads up, we've signed everybody in Europe, so I'm even more behind the times than is usual for someone living in Victorian Wales. I appreciate that I, Gifhater General, am fighting a losing battle here; yea, like King Canute trying to order the waves into retreat, I am as they say, pissing into the wind whilst using far too many commas. But...I appeal to you as fellow denizens of the Caf, stop posting gifs all over the shop...or else!1! *vague threats follow*

Grumpy bollox ye

Good point..

I was pretty much just alluding the fact, that this lad has alot more about him than many give him credit for. Top class CM he is..

Wait, I've just realised, didn't he score against us in the RVP hattrick game?

Watching the welcome to Man United one... published on Feb 2nd? wtf

He looks solid, seems he will start most games. Saw the liverpool post regarding slow midfield. He doesn't look slow at all especially for a central midfielder.

Watch this and tell me its not like watching Carrick...

They seem like a fine bunch over there at saintsweb, nothing but praise for him and United. But they REALLY seem to dislike Spurs! Maybe Glaston posts there also?

The amount of work rate our team would be having, starting from top,Rooney-Herrera-Schneiderlin-Schweinsteiger,its mesmerizing.

Remember when he said Mata wouldn't get a game at Spurs?

If there is no one else in the running why must we rush to sign him?We are in a position of bargaining strength here and being patient makes it difficult for Soton because they have a player who wants to go and they possibly need to find his replacement. I think Koeman will blink first.

In any case now that we have Bastian our midfield situation is no longer desperate. Even if we miss out on Schneiderlin we could have several others planned as back ups. Who knows how many people Woody is talking to?

I still think we are going to get him.

It is unbecoming to quote oneself but have to say that this is a good lesson for us. Woody and LVG obviously know what they are doing.

Now watch us get Ramos.

It's not like watching Carrick.
It really isn't, carrick's passing range is alot better and can be more direct.

He's still very good though, tons more steel then the current carrick. Good legs and a great challenge, just don't think he dictates games/pace as much as some think on here. That's the biggest difference between them both.

In a way, these moves have given me confidence that we dont nesseracily need to target a well known CB like Ramos. It would be great but wont be the end of the world if we pull of a CB similar to us getting vidic couples years back.

Ditto, then again i'm not sure that van gaal regard carrick's passing as vital as SAF did; especially not as a DM otherwise why would he have called out for 2 box to box midfielders?

That's the difference between 3 and 2 man midfields I guess. With two other CMs right next to him, passing range isn't as big a deal.

Agreed, he's a bit like Makelele though. Very good in retaining or retaking possession and therefore, he will be very very useful to win games and asphyxiate the opposition. It is legendary that Makelele was not that offensive but he has always been critical in a team. When he left Real, they became 4th the next year... and Chelsea loved him. Schneiderlin seems to have this potential.

This.

He's not much of a one touch passer, is he?

A lot of people have touted him as a #8 but I think he'd poor there in a tiki taka team. He has to play as a holding midfielder and nothing more.

I was thinking maybe Schweinstieger's the one who will play in the Carrick role. Schneiderlin might well be the no.8, but whose workrate and defensive ability will then free Herrera into a more attacking role.

Schweinsteiger is better in attack than Schneiderlin. I'd prefer to see Schneiderlin as the defensive midfielder, Schwein as a box-to-box mid and Herrera as an advanced playmaker.
