Manchester United are still interested in signing Southampton’s French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin this summer. The past 24 hours has been great for Manchester United supporters who have seen Italian right-back
Matteo Darmian sign for the club and a deal to bring
Bastian Schweinsteiger to the club from Bayern Munich. Morgan Schneiderlin is a player that has been long linked to Manchester United with a bid of
£20 million already made and rejected.
Schneiderlin is a player that United need, not only will he add strength in-depth to the squad, but he can be a pillar for the club, fortifying the defensive midfield position, with Daley Blind a likely back-up player, leaving Michael Carrick and Schweinsteiger to play further up the pitch, whether together, which may not be likely, or in rotation. The likes of Juan Mata and Ander Herrera could occupy a central attacking midfield role, leaving a striker and two wingers to complete the lineup.
The French midfielder travelled to Austria with Southampton, failing to play in a friendly against
Red Bull Leipzig in which Southampton losing 5-4 on Wednesday. On Saturday, Southampton participated in the Audi Quattro Cup in Salzburg playing Valencia in their first 45 minute match,
losing 1-0, again with Schneiderlin not playing any part in the match. A third place play-off would be the clubs third match of their pre-season campaign against hosts Red Bull Salzburg,
losing 2-0, completing a hat-trick of defeats, all without Morgan Schneiderlin taking part.
Schneiderlin is still a target for Manchester United and late last week the club were still confident of securing the player ahead of their departure for Seattle on Monday, where they play their first pre-season fixture this summer.
Sky Sports report that United are likely to try and sign the Frenchman for around £25 million this summer, which would be a reasonable fee for the player, who would no doubt strengthen the clubs squad this summer. With the fact that United seem to have started their transfer business with a bang, many expect great things to happen this summer.
