Vidal is also 28, has had a big injury, and will give a maximum of two or three years before he slows down at the most. His game is based almost purely on hard running and power, and he's pretty reckless in the way he goes about things on and even off the pitch if that car crash in Chile was anything to go by. Close to 25m for that isn't a great deal, not when we've already got Schweinsteiger, who plays in pretty much the same manner. Schneiderlin would be able to come in and learn from a quality deeplying playmaker in Carrick, and in Schweinsteiger he has the perfect role model to expand his game. He can play in both roles perfectly well and can get enough games spotting both of these players, with the long-term aim of replacing Carrick.
As I said, it's a no-brainer. Both in terms of logistics and the age profile of the squad. Not to mention the homegrown rules too
