I think this transfer will drag on a bit. Bastian now in will give us a much needed boost in midfield. We still need a leader/experienced centre back and looking like we will need a striker also, and they are more important currently.

Southampton want a certain fee, and that's that. We know what we have to bid, just a matter of whether Louis will want to push ahead with it for now. Reckon it could go to deadline day.

It won't drag on. This isn't Levy.

Southampton want to sign replacements. So they'd want us to sign him pretty soon. Relationship between the two clubs are good.

Also I visited a Southampton forum and they were giving this forum praise for rating Schneiderlin very highly. Nice to see a non deluded fans forum.

I would be surprised, Koeman is resigned to losing him and already talked of potential replacements. i think it will be resolved next week, one way or the other.

I'd like it to happen. Just think Woody will conduct our overseas business first. Just a gut feeling. Obviously Bastian was on the cards more than 2 weeks ago, so I think it is something we may revisit, but just a few more weeks down the road.

I hope I'm wrong to be honest. As I said above, just think we have a few priorities ahead of Schneiderlin. The deal would happen real quick, we bid the 27mill they want and he is ours. Jus a gut feeling we will sort overseas deals first.

I think schweinsteiger was the big one to finish as it's buying an established world class player that may make De Gea reconsider and also help with the recruitment of others.

I think the club wants the player, the player wants us and Southampton are prepared to sell. This can be done very quickly and I believe we put it on the back burner to fast track the Darmian and Bastien transfers!

Now they're done, I expect us to move on to Morgan now. I have faith it will be done very quickly.

I hope so....He's the consistent 8-9/10 player every game that will allow us to attack, attack, attack, knowing we got Mr dependable shielding the back four.

This is perhaps the most exciting signing, seeing as we have neglected this position for a long time.

I want him here a lot, will make no bones of it. If he carries on like he has, he's worth what they're asking for and he could be very important for us. Hopefully the Koeman/Van Gaal relationship won't cause any problems, doubt it would or could at this level.

That's great to hear man. What's the site btw? Seem like a good bunch..

Robbo was my idol too man & my rose tinted glasses would put Robbo ahead of Matthaus as my fav box-boxer - given the goals he scored & the amount of times he put his body on the line for club & your country.

Matthaus was so good during his reign & it's a shame folk dont really mention him now amongst the greats of the game, because he was the best of his generation.

I remember buying a knock-down Germany shirt with Matthaus on it & wanting to be him - that was only last week :D

I don't think any box to box CM has ever did it as well at both ends as Robbo, tackled like a top CB and finished like a striker. I wish I could find the old mini statue I had of him when I was kid, loved that thing. :D

Yeah, I am not sure why Matthaus is not lauded more, Maradona named as his greatest ever opponent.

 Don't ever change mate.

Is there any possibility that we are doing on this on sunday? Just want Morgan on tour...

God may have needed a sit down on Sunday, Woody has no such limits.

Darmian......Smalling......Jones....Shaw
Schneiderlin.....Carrick....Schweinstieger
....Mata..........Rooney.........Di Maria.........

Poor Herrera.

Let's be honest, if they don't all fly out together on Monday...I can't imagine it would be too difficult to tie up deals and get them sent over to the U.S.

Did Schneiderlin actually travel with Saints for their pre-season tour? I find it strange that he was sick, hasn't played in any friendlies but actually flew over if a deal was on the verge of being done.

Yes, he sat in the stands with Liebherr.

Herrera would definitely start in that, he adds the energy and creativity in that. Swap Carrick for Schweinsteiger and put Herrera in there, and that's most likely what we'd see.

Anyway, Herrera>Schneiderlin and is a better player then Carrick at this point as well IMO, just that we relied on Carrick more because he was the only one who was even just decent as a holding midfielder. Without him we just collapsed in the middle. Now we'll have Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin who can play there.

The Midfield will be either with Schneiderlin as a DM or Schweinstieger/Carrick as deep playmakers, so I think it'll be more like:
Carrick/Schneidelin/Schweinstieger
Schweinstieger/Hererra/Schneidelin
Hererra/Mata/Fellaini

-------------- De Gea
- Darmian - Otamendi - Rojo - Shaw -
-------------- Schneid
------ Herrera ------ Schwein ------
- Di Maria ----- Rooney ----- Depay -

Freakishly scary midfield, and that's without Fellaini.

Most reports I read were saying we will get both even today, and I'm sure that LVG said he wants a 6 and an 8.

I think they're both 6s at the highest level and Schweinsteiger will only be more of one as he ages. And we have Carrick who is still very good when healthy and Blind to grow into the position.

The more I think about it, the more I think we should sign a more offensively creative midfielder than Schneiderlin. Another Herrera would be better, if there's one out there that we like.

Koke would be perfect but it doesn't seem like he wants to leave. Pogba isn't coming here and will be insanely expensive. Vidal would be brilliant for at least 2-3 years if he stays healthy. Not sure who else would be good, but when you look at the teams we want to compete with (Barca, Madrid) they tend to play a more creative, nimble midfielders at the spot where we'd have Schweinsteiger or Schneiderlin, like Iniesta/Rakitic, Isco/Modric/James.

You could point to Schweinsteiger himself at Bayern but they play with 4 proper attackers at their best and when I saw them or Germany (10ish times a year) I thought Schweinsteiger was aging into a better 6 than 8.

But I could be wrong about either of these 2 midfielders; Schneiderlin might have more to his game with better teammates and Schweinsteiger might have been a better 8 going forward against weaker opposition, which is when I skip Bayern games.

Let's sign a 30 year old. That's the way forward!! Until We fecking understand that everyone in front of the back4 that We sign should be on 6 year contracts and below 26 years of age We Will never be like in the 90s.

I broadly agree but I think a DM can be older; Thiago Motta and Pirlo come to mind. Alonso has done well post-30 too.

And we do have Memphis, Herrera as solid starters going forward in their early to mid 20's. Di Maria just turned 27. Shaw and Darmina at fullback too are young and they're as much midfielders as defenders basically if we're going to press high and control games like a top team should.

We just need one of Wilson or Januzaj to work out and then a CM and attacker (up top if it's Januzaj or deeper/wider if it's Wilson making it) to fit your criteria and we are apparently likely to sign a 25 year old CM/DM this week, so we're in good shape.

Absolutely & beautifully said man.

Robbo is the classic example of an ol'skool player who only wants to win & he'll go through hell & back to achieve that.

I've never seen a better box-boxer than Robbo. I think i still have his posters from "Shoot" "Match" and possibly "90 Minutes"

No chance of me changing man - the "eejit gene" is embedded in me. That's the Irish for ya.. to be sure.. to be sure :D

Go on McGregor in the UFC, in a while too. G'wan ya goodthing ye..

That's a title and CL contender team

I think they are all back from Austria now. What do you think, can we sneak him in today before we fly out tomorrow?

I like Schneidy but might prefer William Carvalho if I had the choice, and when you're talking close to 30m there could be other options.

I wouldn't mind the player; his passing from the back his fantastic.

Have doubts about his mobility. Asked @Sly if he can shed some light on it, but he didn't bother to reply. :(

With Schweinsteiger, Carrick, Blind, Herrera, Fellaini, Mata and possibly Pereira we do have the numbers for our three midfield positions. I am having doubts about our desire to get Schneiderlin. We may not actually go for him and concentrate on acquiring a CB and a striker.

They can always fly him out a few days later it wouldn't be the end of the world. Hopefully he's a United player sometime this week.

I don't grasp why people are putting De Gea in these line ups, he's basically gone. Madrid wouldn't sell Casillas to Porto without being certain they'll get their man

Casillas was a goner regardless of the De Gea situation. All bridges were burnt there. You just have to look at the reaction of their fans to the transfer.

Vidal Herrera Schweinsteiger

That is a seriously hard working midfield right there!

I don't think we need Vidal at this point. Id go for someone younger who can pick up from Schweinsteiger's and Carrick's experience and eventually replace them in the future. Someone like Schneiderlin, Carvalho (as DM) or Verratti (DPM)

We've got 4 very talented CMs in the reserves. I'm hoping we strike gold with 1 of them. Harrop for instance has just gotten a new deal and could go on tour.

Imagine learning from Carrick and Schweinsteiger
