Also said unless something happens rapidly, he won't be joining United in time for the tour. He also seems to give the impression that he's not totally convinced of our interest, as he'd expect us to push hard for a deal if we wanted him, then talks about Morgan being professional and the possibility of him staying.

Want him badly but i wouldn't put him ahead of Carrick like so many want. With Carrick's injury proneness and CL/cups there'll be plenty of games for him anyway.

indeed. He was not too shabby last season. he is not a good replacement for Carrick. But where teams are too busy defending, he has been excellent as a distributer.

We should have murdered Giggs and Scholes when they turned 30. Also, Juventus were such idiots when they took ageing Andrea Pirlo from Milan.
I wasn't complaining at all, i responded to someone and explained that years of feck ups and missing out on players has made me pessimistic about our transfers.
Both Schweinsteiger and Carrick are injury prone and in the twilight of their careers, therefore it is a must we go for Schneiderlin bearing in mind we have UCL games.
30 nowadays isn't anything like being 30 twenty years ago. Plays who train well and look after themselves can play at the top level til they're 35.
Even if he gives us 2 seasons, that's a heck of a long time in football.
If he helps us win a trophy he's worth it, and he's the sort of player than can contribute massively towards that.
Things can change quickly though, I wouldn't panic. I still think there's a decent chance we'll sign him.

Why do people keep putting Schweinsteiger in the #8 role when he doesn't have the legs for that anymore? The Bayern fans on here have said that one of the issues for him there was Alonso being in the role that he wants to occupy now. It's like when Matthaus transitioned from being a box to box CM to the sweeper role, that is where Bastian is right now in his career.
This seems quite straight forward to me. He wants to join us and Arsenal seem out of the race so there is probably very little competition for him. If LvG rates him I don't think a fee of 23m or 27m will make him pull out of the deal? We probably need a strong player with great stamina in our squad and MS will fill this role perfectly.

My lasting memory of Matthaus was of him looking absolutely incredulous as he watched what was unfolding before him in the last 2 mins of the 1999 CL final after he was subbed out.

Beast of a CM, I mean Robbo is my guy and favourite player of all time, but Matthaus is the best box to box CM I've ever seen.
Robbo was my idol too man & my rose tinted glasses would put Robbo ahead of Matthaus as my fav box-boxer - given the goals he scored & the amount of times he put his body on the line for club & your country.
Matthaus was so good during his reign & it's a shame folk dont really mention him now amongst the greats of the game, because he was the best of his generation.

If we add schneiderlin too will the cb position need strengthening. Jones, smalling and rojo aren't white. The protection from a class midfield couldhelp them anyway

But only because the Sunday papers are particularly imaginative in their story creation. There's rarely any business done over the summer on weekends as we have found out in the past so I would take Sunday's with a pinch of salt.

I think the club wants the player, the player wants us and Southampton are prepared to sell. This can be done very quickly and I believe we put it on the back burner to fast track the Darmian and Bastien transfers!

I think this transfer will drag on a bit. Bastian now in will give us a much needed boost in midfield. We still need a leader/experienced centre back and looking like we will need a striker also, and they are more important currently.

Last season, many times the defence went into shambles. The centre & back line need to be strengthened up.

I would be surprised, Koeman is resigned to losing him and already talked of potential replacements. i think it will be resolved next week, one way or the other.
