Not many clubs can pay £80m+ for a defensive midfielder. City, Arsenal, Spurs, Newcastle, Liverpool are not interested this summer. Man Utd has more urgent need in striker, goalkeeper and a #8. No one is going to compete with Chelsea for his signature.

That doesn’t make it easier to negotiate for him. We rejected their offer for Colwill out of hand. They’re not about to make it easy for us to try and sign Caicedo.

Sky aren't the only ones who think this. Everyone thinks this. I expect Caicedo to Chelsea and Mount to United will get done in the next couple of weeks.

We need both, or two midfielders at least. We've just lost Sabitzer, Eriksen can't play a full 90 minutes twice a week and McTomminay and Fred will probably get sold this summer.

We could use him as a right back who comes into midfield as well, he could cover both the Casemiro role and also play that inverted rb role. ETH saw him play that role twice against us and maybe fancies the idea.

Even if he does, we're still hamstrung by FFP so we have to sell regardless. I think a lot of our movements are waiting on new ownership (comings and goings) because the Glazers are too slow to make decisions which costs us every year.
Brighton have a set price for their players, who have been told them can leave if a club matches their valuation. They're not going to start playing games because we can pay what they want us to.
