Moises Caicedo | Chelsea agree £115M fee | signed for Chelsea

Apparently according to Andy Naylor, they did agree to let him go this summer, but at the right price and as we showed with Cucurella and White, we're very happy to hold out for that price. And the fees bandied around for Rice and the money you spent on Enzo, we've used that to set our price, in my mind quite fairly though maybe not in other's opinions!

The deal Brighton seemed to have with Mac Allister, which they keep saying wasn't a release clause (but no one seems to know the exact details of it, bar that the club had a say as well) was extremely unusual for us and by the looks of it Caicedo does not have the same agreement.

It will be interesting to see how this develops. I think you’re grossly overpricing him and West Ham are doing the same with Rice. Enzo was massively overpriced but at least that was a take it or leave it release clause. Arsenal are crazy for even considering paying £100m for Rice and Chelsea will be too with Caicedo. Why did he even sign a new contract in January?

So far so good, we don’t get mentioned a whole lot with regards to this player.

Just really among the fan base.

I think Chelsea have massively distorted the market. You mention Enzo's release clause, but that's just an asking price in written form. Benfica could have sold for less if they wanted to, but they correctly read the situation and saw that Chelsea were willing to pay.

I don't really have a problem with how Brighton and West Ham are conducting themselves. I similarly don't think that Arsenal's opening bids for both Rice and Caicedo were disrespectful. Everyone is doing the best for their club. I do think it might limit Brighton's pull in the market if potential signings feel they may end up trapped by ever higher price tags. But that is very much a medium-to-long term problem.

Not for a coach who implements positional play and wants to initiate attacks from the back.

A couple problems with this analysis.

First, as long as we don’t bring in clinical finishers — and let’s be honest, we do not — we’ll be vulnerable to a single goal taking three points from us match after match. Top three will be our ceiling, not our floor.

Second, ETH ideally wants us pressing from the top, not sitting back to counter from the back. No José tactics under Erik. Yes of course we all want a modern sweeper keeper, but the system works optimally when we regain possession in the final or middle third — not the back third.

We both press high and build up from the back which is why the keeper is important.

You say that as if West Ham haven’t consistently priced Rice at over £100m. You can’t blame Chelsea for Arsenal agreeing to pay West Ham’s valuation. That’s been there years before Enzo even set foot in Europe. No one else was interested at that valuation. Until Arsenal were. We all knew Bellingham would go for around £100m too. Tchouameni went for a huge fee as well.

Enzo is just one of several midfielders being priced at that level. That doesn’t mean they aren’t all extremely overpriced. I do understand West Ham and Brighton’s stance here and I would want Chelsea to do exactly the same to any team interested in our players. But from the buyer’s perspective, £100m for Caicedo is too much and I’d want Chelsea to walk away, just as I did when we were interested in Rice and West Han named their price.

You won't walk away

Anything lower than £90 million we should be in for him still. The value is still there, because of his age, current ability and potential to be the best player on the planet in his position.

If it’s any higher we should just go hard buying cheap, highly talented teenagers in all the positions we need, I don’t think any of our other targets are worth the inflated price in this crazy market (bar KMJ).

Yeah we should be rivalling them not funding

We both press high and build up from the back which is why the keeper is important.

A keeper is very important, no question. As are defenders, midfielders and forwards. But the question is that in light of the gaping holes in the squad, which holes are more urgent to fill than others.

But with the news that’s been put out in the last 20 minutes we now have a gaping hole at keeper that must be filled first. If we don’t bring in a striker at least we can shoehorn in Rashford and if we don’t bring in a midfielder we can always call on Fred and McTominay. And if that how it’s going to be, we may have to resort to animal sacrifice to the football gods.

So annoying we have to sacrifice something

We’re never going to win the league again are we..

I like him but wouldnt pay a penny more than Arsenal's rumoured bid in Jan of £70 million. He's your combative midfielder who can pass, he's not the guy who is going to grab you points with set up and goals. Even that amount is paying for potential, he's worth more like £60 million at his current level.

You undervalue the importance of the no 6 position, we saw how Casemiro transformed our team last season. Caicedo is similar to buying a 21 year old Casemiro.

Imagine we fund Chelsea buying overrated Mount, so they can get him. Crazy

Feel the same way if we buy Havertz. Caicedo looks like the player we actually need. Why we are helping Chelsea buy their underachieving or overrated players at premium prices is beyond me. Part of the reason why they are in a dismal 12th spot is because these players were not good enough. Fail to see how they will make the jump to a top4 team and improve drastically. It can happen but surely it should be at a cut price at this point? It is strange.

Are you one of our brilliant negotiating team???

His position is one of the most crucial in modern football, just cos he dont set up goals and score goals doesnt mean you knock 40million off his value.
The lad is a born leader and gonna be at top of his game for next 8-10 years, Cas cant go on for ever.

Yeah exactly why we need him

Which position is not the most crucial in modern football? :D

Whats so hard to understand? We are helping them balance their books. If they buy this guy for 90 and sell Mount for 60, they essentially upgraded (could argue) for a net cost of 30m.
Upgraded what? They are not even playing same position ffs.

He plays nothing like Casemiro in my opinion.

Casemiro’s game is about defensive positioning.

The way he reads the attack and cuts it through his own positioning 5 min before.

Caceido is very combative and is energetic and is chasing the player and the ball.

It’s probably why he has a lot of fans, because it’s very obvious and easy to see what he does on a football pitch to the average football viewer.

Never is a very long time so I won’t go that far, but what I will say is that the moment I heard Moyes was appointed Ferguson’s successor I was sure it would take at least a decade before we would challenge for the PL trophy again.

At this point, the best I can see is doing over the next 5 years is third place. At the bottom of it all is getting rid of the Glazers, which would enable us to invest our resources more intelligently than the day we brought in Fellaini. Early signs are positive with our moves under ETH but we gave still have a long way to go.
