How does £90m look when we need a new CF, GK, CM x2 and CB.
We can only do so much and £90m on this guy is just absolute stupidity. So not surprised a stupid club is doing it.
We should be spending 200-250m if we can competently sell players - 100m at least. We should go in for lane next summer on a free, so I see the striker signing being Hojlund. That should leave at least 150-200m for a midfielder, GK (Raya 40m), and Kim 45m.
The issue is ETH seems set on Mount. Btw I only expect Hojlund to actually happen out of that list.
Yeah Kim probably won’t happen. But with no Kane we will get a top keeper which will probably be £60m and we’ll still get a defender. We could get Caicedo but will mean only 1 CM and Brighton will won’t terrible terms so that £100-150m looks bleak. Don’t rule out another striker with Hojlund. Not a clue who.
He’ll end up at Chelsea for a ridiculous fee. Brighton will sign a replacement for 5-10m and we will more than likely be linked with them in a few years but won’t get them either because we’ll still be a dogs dinner in the transfer market.
All I can see is we’ll keep McTominay, try to get Rabiot on a free or if that fails give Fred an extension. Whilst Casemiro just holds his head in his hands.

I mean you can't make the argument that Caicedo at 80m is a terrible deal but Mount at 60m is a shrewd move
I agree. I think we'll sign a midfielder who occupies a deeper lying midfield position but he will likely cost considerably less.
I believe ten Hag wants Mount to stay high and then retreat in defensive transition and wants the deeper lying midfielder to stay deep and move high. We need both profiles for a more complete squad along with a GK and striker.

There’s probably a £40m difference and the alternative to Caicedo would be Rabiot who is free.
But feel free to give me your total expenditure of Caicedo and the alternative to Mount.
To be honest if they sign caicedo for 90+ it only helps our negotiations with Mount, they will need the money and we don’t have to be pressured into buying him for a ridiculous fee.
They can’t sign him until they sell Mount anyway.

You get Rabiot and Caicedo instead? Gives us cover both at DM and CM with excellent carrying and technical quality and also accepts that Caicedo is one of the best young midfielder prospects in the world.
And it's not a 40m difference unless you think Caicedo will be triple digits. We aren't getting Mount for less than 60.
Totally agree we need two strikers, I’m not against a veteran like Griezmann at £20m and R Hojlund for £40/45m to share the work load, also Griezmann might get a lazy Martial to wake up.
Caicedo will be £80m with additionals. Mount will be up to £40m with additionals. That’s a good £40m. That’s a lot of money upfront. The terms for Caicedo will not make sense with the players we need to buy on top and he doesn’t solve our pressing 8 problem he doesn’t press in the offensive third.
90m is absolute madness.
It might be sensible to go Mount, Rabiot and Alan Varela for now and that might allow us to sign another striker on top of the keeper which is required imo.
Varela reportedly has a €15m release clause and our head scout is Argentine.

Whats so hard to understand? We are helping them balance their books. If they buy this guy for 90 and sell Mount for 60, they essentially upgraded (could argue) for a net cost of 30m.
We ain't paying 60 for Mount, he ain't worth that with 5 years on his deal.

A midfield duo of Enzo and Caicedo is a great midfield base. Add Nkunku ahead of them and a potential out n out striker, Chelsea have a solid core team to build on with Poch. Chelsea’s biggest threat to progression is probably Boehly himself.

We already offered 40m and got rejected and every outlet reports that Chelsea wants 70m and we are willing to go up to 60m. And we are United, we don't get good deals.
As far as the "pressing 8" problem, Caicedo definitely CAN press in the offensive third if that's what he's set out to do. He's a very versatile footballer and actually plays as a midfielder well as opposed to Mount who's never played well in a midfield 3. Look, I've already said that if Mount was on a cheap deal I'd be fine with it. But making him a signature cornerstone signing for big money is just idiotic given what he brings to the table and his current value if you can go get a player with higher prospects for a bit more money that ALSO solves the problems of who the feck plays DM if our 31 year old isn't available for a single game. It's inarguable that we were basically mid table level without Casemiro this year and we still don't have a single replacement. So yeah grabbing the best possible young player available that can play the position as well as play more offensively next to him is what I prefer.

As someone said; outrageous to essentially fund their move for the player and have them only pay the extra on top.
This lad and whoever helps him are just desperate for him to go to a "big" club no matter who, he was desperate to go to Arsenal a few months ago, wanted us last summer, now it's Chelsea
