Someone needs to save ETH from himself and his obsessions and get this guy instead of funding Chelsea's move for him.
This is bizarre if true. Particularly in light of Rice deal not being finalized, us facing takeover and needing midfielder of that profile, Bayern chasing a DM etc. Chelsea are anything between a 'work in progress' and a borderline basket-case ATM.So he’s a Utd fan, a Real Madrid fan and now I’m assuming we’ll hear pretty soon he’s a Chelsea fan as well.
Like seriously!
Giving Chelsea 60m to buy this guy is criminal

How are we funding them we haven’t even bought Mount yet & the deal has been going on for a month?Exactly this! Frustrating. Funding them to buy Caicedo.
It does bring up another issue discussed here on various occasions - the need for a credible voice to partner with and push back against when necessary, Ten Hag in the form of best Football Director we can recruit (ideally one with profile in unearthing and developing top-bracket young talent). This, along with up and coming striker, ball playing gk and at least one press-proof midfielder, would be best investment new owners could provide this summer.Exactly this! Frustrating. Glazers are trash and sale process is definitely an impediment overall but we've still been negotiating for Mount, as briefed everywhere. Easier to buy from Brighton once they've confirmed a player can leave for right money, compared to team that's paranoid about 'strengthening' its ostensible rivals and will majorly overprice. ETH should be going in for Caicedo as no.1 mid target and then looking at 1other for cheap but a-grade potential (from french or turkish or dutch league) . Some of it is just his stubbornness, ala FDJ last window, insistence on Antony etc.Arghh.. I really rate him and wanted him at United. All this takeover stuff has derailed out transfer window - the final parting gift from the Glazers.
Yeah, any players where we may be interested, clubs are doing their business early whilst our hands are still tied. Hopefully there will still be some free agents knocking around for us once the takeover is done.Arghh.. I really rate him and wanted him at United. Negotiating maybe, but we are in a very weak negotiating position as clubs know that we can’t pull the trigger on a move.Glazers are trash and sale process is definitely an impediment overall but we've still been negotiating for Mount, as briefed everywhere. I think we probably can on at least one move (though again, screw the Glazers and their whole prolonged, grubby mitted extractive process), although it would be a gamble in terms of not knowing how the overall budget will lie with takeover and sales. IMO Some of it is a lack of conviction around early sales too, though admittedly part of that is also waiting on someone like Rice to move and West Ham to decide if they're going to firm up interest in McT or similar...Negotiating maybe, but we are in a very weak negotiating position as clubs know that we can’t pull the trigger on a move.
Classic example of needing a strong DoF.

I still say we should have sold McTominay in January when Newcastle were willing to pay decent money for him. Don't think it's working that well so far, at least from the outside and the leaks; we were able to accommodate emergency split-role last summer but reports are suggesting good value top-=bracket young players passing us by whilst ETH quixotically pursues players from clubs who will hold us to ransom. And I say that as someone who thinks he has genuinely improved us stylistically and was a better pick than Poch etc.Between the scouts, back room staff, data science department, the football director, head of recruitment operations and technical director. There are more than enough voices and opinions, to push back if they dont agree with ETH or if ETH and others disagree with one of the others.
I agree with this. McT is somewhere between adequate squad player and a sacred cow at the club, although he's just a more extreme case of the way the squad management in terms of ongoings has been mediocre to poor. That's part of the reason why I'd like to see clean sweep, even if short-term it hasn't worked somewhere like Chelsea (which I think is more Boehly's insistence on buying in bulk or bringing in the players straight away as opposed to loaning back, than because of Winstanley) to cleanse as much as we can the Glazer 'institutional rot' . IMO We should be looking at football people at second tier 'major' clubs and with strong, reps who've unearthed and developed players going for big sums now and give them a platform.I still say we should have sold McTominay in January when Newcastle were willing to pay decent money for him. DoF sets this deal up in March when it was clear he was absolutely what we need to add in midfield.
So we need a good DOF to get well known players but we also slag off the DOF for getting said well known players for a high price. Buuuuut we also slag off the DOF for getting unknowns in because they’re a gamble. Howeverrrrr we also slag off the DOF because other teams find gems and we somehow don’t!!
Love the yearly slagging off of the DOF.

Point being us buying Mount does not fund in any way, fee or FFP Caicedo when the deal hasn’t even gone through yet. They aren't selling because they need the cash, they are selling because they need to comply with FFP. Us buying Mount does that.

They’ve clearly shown over a ten year period they do otherwise we wouldn’t be so average.“Absolutely clear”
yes I’m sure the data scientists, scouts, analysts at MUFC who get paid thousands a year know less than us fans

A team with a reported transfer budget of £120m doesn't buy a player valued at £120m by Brighton. Chelsea seem like they'll sign Caicedo without selling Mount.
We’ve just changed the whole set up over the past year or so, give them a chancePeople argue this shite just like you are every year yet our transfer business is some of the worst in top level football consistently in terms of filling needs/value/negotiations, so clearly at some point the benefit of the doubt is gone.
A GK and striker are more important, especially with a £120m budget.£120m the game is mad, great young player but won’t get you 20 goals and 15 assists now will he?

If we had the money and didn't have to prioritise other areas of the pitch, I'm sure we'd try. But it doesn't make any sense to sign him for the price Brighton will demand. This is where we should walk away and look for alternatives. You lot can have him at that price. That’s a mad fee. I felt he was overpriced at £80m so this is nuts. I was willing to overpay, with add-ons, up to £90m to have him but you lot are welcome to him at £120m.
This. Scaled, it's about as bad as Everton's. Boehly has been reckless in doing stuff like creating a dressing room of about 40 players, which has hurt them short-term, but there's at least a kind of method medium-term to what he's done with the recruitment team and buying in some of Europe's best young players. We've picked up the odd good youth player-ala Garnacho, Daillo/Pellistri might still make it, and there've been one or two good Real Madrid castoffs/player seeking new challenge, but we've been wretched at picking up on opportunities with release clauses or investing in young 1st team players ready to move to the next level, as well as having disproportionate miss ratio with youngsters (Mbappe was recommended and could have moved at 15/16; Davies etc). We don't seem to play the odds in terms of mobile players with footballing intelligence who can deal with on the ball pressure and problem solve against blocked channels, and can develop sufficient upper body toughness to deal with physical challenges over time.People argue this shite just like you are every year yet our transfer business is some of the worst in top level football consistently in terms of filling needs/value/negotiations, so clearly at some point the benefit of the doubt is gone.
In one evening Caicedo and Kim - What would have been my top 2 targets, are joining other clubs and it’s also unlikely we will have new owners before the new season. Pain pain pain.
Just announce SJR now so we can crack on with the summer spending.
He’s well worth £90m. £60-70m of which we are giving Chelsea btw.Have you seen the price. This was never happening. Good luck to him at Chelsea.
