Mo Salah

He's having an exceptional season. He's the stand out player of the season for me in the league this year. De Bruyne has obviously been excellent and so has Kane but Salah has been the most impressive for me.

Really hope he doesn't keep it up, because he's single handedly keeping Liverpool in contention for top 4. If he does keep it up, I can see some big clubs testing Liverpool's resolve in the summer.

Madrid/Barca/PSG certainly hopes he keeps it up. :smirk:

I think unless Liverpool somehow win "number six" (please no!!!) the awards will, rightly, go to De Bruyne IMO
It's close between them but I'd give it to Salah. Fastest player to reach 20 goals in Liverpool's history. 28 goals and 9 assists in all competitions. He's single-handedly keeping Liverpool in this top 4 battle with his goals. I think that individually he has the edge over KDB. The plaudits have to go to the whole City team because their achievements like the winning run are more of a team effort. Everyone in the team was important in that run not just KDB so that's why as its an individual award Salah should win it.

Liverpool winning 6 doesn't have anything to do with PFA awards. It's only for premier league performance.

The hyperbole in here is reaching ridiculous levels now.

Agreed. He had a somewhat poor game yesterday - messing up numerous opportunities for his team with woeful passes and bad decisions in general - yet was clinical when his own chances presented themselves. It's been the story of his season really. I still believe he'll 'level out' and he won't be anywhere near as effective next season, wherever it is he may be playing.

Hard to choose between Kane, Salah and Delete Bruyne for POTY. But Salah is up there for sure. He's an excellent player but I'm not sure about the calls for Madrid to sign him. With a team like Liverpool, you never know how much it is the player and how much the system which is so lopsided to favour it's attack and especially the fast counter attacking ones.

Also got to  at claims that he's the best in the world

Who cares, when he dribbles 3 men in the last minute and also scores 2 goals against a top-opponent.. Really - We'd be over the moon if Lukaku all of a sudden did that.

POTY for me so far. But its a close call.

Yeah, he's at the crux of a well oiled attacking machine at Liverpool. Most of his goals were the finishing touches to flowing counter-attacks. Take him out of that team and he'll start looking a lot worse. I rate players like Hazard/Sanchez/Coutinho higher than him. Last year Mane was playing the role of the forward most attacker and reaping the dividends, now Salah is doing that.

Really likeable and a superb player. Seems very modest and down-to-earth.

Shame he plays for Liverpool, he has been an absolute revelation.

He is, after the Huddersfield game we waited in the freezing cold for the players as they were going in the coach and Salah went to every fan, took pics and signed autographs, him and Ox both.

Can on the other hand ran past everyone without an acknowledgement, same with Mane.

Nah he has nothing over Salah this season at least.
Although I hope he absolutely kills it for us.

How did he behave during the negociations between As Roma and Liverpool?
He doesn't strike me as someone who would kick up a fuss, and you kind of have to when you want to leave Liverpool.

Sanchez notched up decent numbers inspite of being in the precarious position of playing well enough to show that he was still good, and being bitchy and moany about it to show that he was unhappy at Arsenal and should be let go asap.

I always wanted a player like Salah/Hazard, with low center of gravity who is a consistent dribbler and can score goals. Mkhitaryan was awfully inconsistent and Martial doesn't seem to be fussed about running more than he has to, Sanchez is just too slow and more of a playmaker, let's get someone for the right wing, any similar players like Salah out there? or should we wait for A. Gomes or give Chong a chance, maybe thats what we are doing when Mourinho says he wont be adding any attacking player in the summer

What the hell?

Mate of mine who's got a soft spot for Liverpool is actually arguing Salah is on Messi's level this season. If Messi made this goal it would hardly make the news. He does this like 20 times a year. Salah is having a great season, but get real.

lol

Also as good a season as Salah is having, I think Mane would suit our style perfectly. If you're talking RW's he's the one we've missed.

Reminds me a little of Mane's first season at Liverpool where everything he hit turned to gold. Now this season Mane has been pretty average and seems to have settled a little. I think Sala will do the same. Playing well above his means at the moment i think. These performances have really come out of nowhere, tbh. Nobody saw this coming.

Be surprised if he can keep this up for 3/4 seasons or so.

Like a few of you have already mentioned, he's not on Messi level or even close. That being said, he's having a blinder of a season. 21/28 goals by early february is absolutely ridiculous.

It's borderline impossible to perform at the level he is at such a consistent rate if the player isn't playing in a side that emphasis attack over everything. All the most consistent attackers around the world atm play in such sides.

I think it’ll be pretty hard for him to maintain this next season, and if he does he’ll be off to Madrid in January.

In review: He's a bit good.......the twunt

He definitely has the ability and belief to keep it going. Problem is and will always be that defence and questions over their keepers. Without into getting that, Salah is just a serious weapon - comes across as a nice chap too....how is he at Liverpool?

His movement with the ball is as close to Messi as we have ever seen in the Prem and it really hurts to say that.
No, Seriously.

Salah is actually a fairly average dribbler btw, it's just that defenders are playing right into his hands right now. Same thing happened in serie A initially. Took the league 4 months to figure out that the key to defending him 1vs1 is to wait for him to turn instead of being aggressive. Well, unless he's got enough space to make it into a foot race. In that situation he's unstoppable

Whilst Mane may not look as good as last year, he's actually producing similar numbers.

Salah has long surpassed Mane's output from last season. 7 goals in games vs the top 6 - the next closest bunch of players have 3. I'd say he's been player of the season so far.

The Messi comparisons are way OTT of course.

Mane has settled down into being a good player. Similar to what he was at Southampton. Probably better than that, but you get the point. Nothing like he was last season. Not even talking strictly about the stats, but how he galvanised the whole team. There's been a big drop off.

Sala probably has been the player of the season, no doubt about that, but i just can't see him replicating this for 2/3 seasons. Just think he'll settle down next season or something, that's the point i was basically making.

Football fans, and we all do it really, like to get a little hyperbolic in these situations. Which is understandable especially when you're a fan of the particular club that the player is playing for.

I'd agree I think it was Verts who managed thisna few times, just backed off until he was running out of room, then tackle. However is second goal for us was simply outstanding, how he manovered with so little space and keep his balance was sublime.

I suppose the same things were said about Kane in his first season.

If he can keep it up it would be great until Madrid inevitably come in.

Sure, but for every Kane (a player who actually keeps improving on his last season) there's plenty more examples where the opposite is true.

Anyway, i hope i'm right 'cause i hate the feckers!

No it wasn't. It was a great play by him of course, but the way Davies and Vertonghen defended on him was diabolical. If either davies doesn't fall asleep or Vertonghen takes an extra step towards him -as he should have- he's never pulling that off

One thing about Salah, there's precedent for him looking like an UFO only to fall back to earth. That's what happened in his time in Italy too. The first few months at fiorentina were drawing comparisons to Messi too, then defences figured him out and he turned out to be "merely" a great player. He's older now though and just looks a better player overall compared to last season.

Most importantly, liverpool's playinh style and the PL in general are tailor made for his skillset. If he's truly fixed his finishing, he'll keep scoring loads(though goals like yesterday's or everton's will disappear, along with most of his dribbling). And this is a worst case scenario
