Mo Salah

There's nobody that can replace Salah currently. I think I read during the week he's been involved in 60% of Liverpool's goals in the PL this season.

Liverpool need to pull another rabbit out of the hat with their recruitment, because when you take Salah out of that team all of a sudden you have a group of forwards who are not consistent scorers, bar maybe Jota.

Can you answer the question? Would he put salah in the bench

It's hard to compare the two players. You are comparing a veteran Salah who has been in his prime in recent years and not lost much of a step to a still young player. Saka is 23 and looking like he is now entering his prime. At 23 years old Salah was playing in Italy and scored 15 goals in 42 matches as Roma finished in third place in Serie A. Those numbers aren't far off what Saka has produced at 23. No one knows if Saka will reach the level that Salah has, but Salah himself also wasn't the fully formed Salah you are referencing now when he was 23.

In any case, it will be interesting to see if Liverpool can strike gold again as they plan to replace Salah - whether that is this summer or some point after that.

Raphinha or Mbeumo are probably two of the best semi realistic options of a decent age and experience.

Well Salah wasn't Salah until he became Salah either. Prior to that his best return was 15, which Mbeumo might match or better this season.
Liverpool signed Salah off a season in which their statistical models had him as the second best forward in europe, after Messi, in terms of potential productivity(goals and assists)

I also think us letting Salah’s, Van Dijk’s and Trent’s contracts run out at the same time is making it even more difficult as they’ll all look at whoever makes the first signature and say, “I deserve whatever he’s getting”.
Liverpool's owners will Prisoner's Dilemma the hell out of that situation

Why are the Pools players so reluctant to give a proper answer to this?

What’s the proper answer if they themselves most likely don’t know whenever they’re signing one or not? Salah’s been pretty direct about not getting an offer from the club yet.

How about a, "I would like to continue here, but haven't got a contract proposal yet"

Saka's career best goal tally for a league campaign doesn't match Salah's worst, where he got 18 in 32 games.

The difference on that front alone is stark. Salah guarantees goals throughout a campaign against any team under any conditions.

As good as Saka is, Salah is a level or even two up. Salah is contesting for the best RW on the planet, still. Saka's not there when push comes to shove.
This.

There is no alternative to Salah, its not just the goals either, Saka has got nowhere near Salah's best tally's whilst playing in a team that scores lots of goals.

Salah is a different level, not just his goal scoring, his all round game is far superior to Saka's. Liverpool can play it short and Salah will receive it well, or turn and burn the defender.

They can play it in behind and he will get there or they can play it long to him and he will hold it up. Saka needs Ben White / Timber on overlaps or he needs an Odegard to bounce off. We saw a drop off from Saka when Odegard doesn't play.

Salah plays with anyone and scores.

So, the answer to this question is probably going to be yes, but not in the sense that they will find a player that is as good as Salah could be. But they will do something to replace him. It wont look like it should work, but to the frustration of all non Liverpool fans it will work great. That’s the MO of their whole team, so don’t see why it will change for Salah.

So, I'm looking at his injury record, and it is genuinely absurd. Since turn of the decade, he has missed total of 15 matches in about 4 seasons. In fact, in his Liverpool career, he has missed just 23 matches in eight and a half seasons.

This is with him playing a ridiculous amount of matches both for club and country, regularly clocking at 55-65 matches per season. So what is he doing differently compared to the rest? He looks genuinely invincible to injuries as he is ageing.

I would say it’s a mixture of genetics and his lifestyle. Some players have those body types and structures that are not prone to muscle injuries.

But his lifestyle and physical fitness is as good as it gets. He is in incredible shape and obviously goes the extra mile to take care of himself.

That new contract is going to be very juicy. Liverpool has to give him what he wants, can't let him go to the Saudi league.

He hasn’t lost a step. He is 32 and a half. Ridiculously fit like Ronaldo. He can easily play at this level for 2-3 more years from the looks of it.

Same as Fernandes, only games he's missed in his whole Man. United career have been suspensions I think.

Ronaldo aswell suffered very few long term injuries in his top level career.

You get that with players in all positions, Dalot is pretty much always available to play, Shaw isn't.

11 goals and 7 assists from 13 games in the league so far. He's fire.

Best playe in the league by a distance again after a couple of years where it was close.

What is the story behind this? I have seen a few people comment on posts about how Carragher doesn’t like him, and when you listen to his views on different situations, he always sides with the club over Salah (but always makes sure to say he “loves Mo”) before criticizing him.

I don’t think it was just the contract talk, it makes me think there was something there before.

Annoyingly good, and frustratingly likeable.
Just have to appreciate it sometimes. Sooner he leaves Liverpool the better. The league doesn’t have anyone close to his level.
