Feck, that's scary. I played with a pitcher that got hit in the face with a ball. I wasn't at the game he got hit but I went to see him in the hospital and it was so bad I could barely recognize him. He had to have facial reconstructive surgery. He's back to normal now, still ugly. He came back the next year to pitch, and the FIRST game back he had another close call. Finished the inning, went into the dugout, he was pale, he didn't talk for a good five minutes until he finally said "I'm done" and walked out of the dugout and he hasn't played since

He told me that he got awful flashbacks when he say Chapman get hit. Scary stuff, lucky for him that he hasn't had trouble with concussions, but I'm sure he's got some version of post-traumatic stress he doesn't like talking about

I guess that is actually in Pittsburgh. Stupid Eboue.

Yeah, appears like there's actual fans there, so it can't be Miami

When I was 10 I was playing shortstop. The catcher threw the ball down to the second basemen after the pitcher's last warmup pitch. The ball deflected off the top of his glove and hit him right above the eye. Our team had yellow shirts and white pants. By the time he got off the field his pants were red. 17 stitches.

Ridiculous that they changed his pants instead of treating his injury

NL more impressive. WTF has happened to the Red Sox this year? I'd cancelled my Setanta subscription and am paying much less attention this year.....plus I am a fair-weather fan.

They had a bad start, didn't improve much and then sold off anything of value at the deadline.

David Ortiz just hit homer number 30. He's been linked with PED before I just cant shake of this feeling that he's taking advantage of the general apathy towards them.

3 more HRs and 11 more RBIs and he'll have his best year since 2007...not bad for a 39yo.

Barry Bonds hit 45 HRs at 39yo in 2004, Hank Aaron 40 in 1973 and Steve Finley 36 in 2004.

Cap Anson hit 120 RBIs in 1891 and remains the only 39yo to hit 120 or more in a single season.

Are you juicing my man? I see Bonds and Aaron there, you belong in that company?

I'd like to think Ortiz is clean because some guys just figure it out eventually, not everyone that ever had a power surge was cheating BUT you look at his numbers, you look at the timing of his surge and you look at the alleged reports of PED usage, eh there is some smoke there.

Plus he's one of those players who thinks the game revolves around him, "you dare call a strike on me!?". feck David Ortiz.

Watching Robbie Ray get bombed just reminds me of what a staggeringly bad job Dombrowski has done. The Price excitement has worn off and this is what we are left with.

A major hole in center field in order to return our rotation to what we had before the Fister trade. Price and Fister both have the same amount of team control left and Fister has actually done better this year. So to "upgrade" from Fister to Price it cost us 25 year old Smyly with his 3.46 FIP and 3 years of team control and is the difference between Jackson's consistent 4 WAR and Ezequiel freaking Carrera.

This team has 1-2 more years left after this season before a decade of being awful kicks in.

Yeah I stayed up to watch it, totally paid for it this morning but it was worth it. Just one of those perfect endings, what a player.

So the playoffs start tonight

A's/Brandon Moss currently beating up a little on the Royals' bullpen. Shields not so big game tonight; pitched well, but I expected him to go 7 or 8 tonight. Problem for the reliever was that you can't walk guys; plus throwing 100mph fastballs isn't that intimidating when its straight, the count is 2-0 and the batter knows exactly what is coming

The Royals need a mini-miracle against Lester. This is the type of situation he is built for. Definitely want to see the Royals win though. Really weird feeling being a division rival to the Tigers, but I just have no hard feelings towards the Royals. I have far more dislike for the A's, the Red Sox, hell, even the Angels/Weaver, moreso then the Royals for sure. They're a well built team, with lots of good young talent, and a number of really good contracts (DD's kryptonite). They'll be back, even without Shields.

The Nats have a chance, that rotation/bullpen could be lethal in the post season. I mean 3 guys with an era under 3 and the other two are Strasburg and Gio......its crazy. Offense isn't all that great but if someone gets hot it could happen.

Bad game from the Angels, missed a ton of chances with runners in scoring positions. I was on cough syrup and desperately wanted the game to end soon so I could sleep early but the Royals just didn't look like scoring and the Angels' big guns kept choking. I knew it was over the moment I saw Salas though, only he could give up a homer to a team that was struggling to get a hit.

Wainwright vs Kershaw today. In the immortal words of Bart Scott, "Can't wait!"

Orioles/Royals... imagine the odds in March. Angels and Tigers once again fail to deliver. Looks like the Dodgers may go down as well. With that $260m payroll - Mattingly is probably gone.

Fecking Dodgers....Cards own them in the playoffs...maybe in the off season they can spend all that that coin on some middle relievers...that bullpen barring Jansen is a fecking joke....yeah Mattingly should be gone.....LaRussa anyone? Credit to the Cards..they definitely show up in the post season.
