MLB 2014

I don't like seeing big money tied up to relievers, especially when other more important areas of the team are questionable but I like Miller, he's pretty dominant and I don't think 36 over 4 is bad business. I'm always super skeptical about relievers maintaining dominance though, especially once they get their payday.

So really if Miller is them done with the bullpen I think its a good move, let Robertson walk and take the draft pick (I'm a big fan of Robertson, he's going to be worth it wherever he goes but I'm not losing sleep over losing him) and perhaps sign a cheap rebound guy to be the closer (atleast for the opening of the year) Grilli? Soriano? I'd much rather let Betances remain in the role he had this year before chucking him into the closer role. Miller/Betances tandem with a semi-decent closer would shutdown close games I think, Royals showed you can ride that type of team all the way to the WS.

I only really have two things I want to see the Yankees do this offseason and they are 1. Keep their draft pick and 2. Sign Yoan Moncada. Next years Free Agents are far more interesting, I'll punt another year to rebuild if a big push comes then.

Is Feeky still alive? Maddon and Lester, getting Hammel back and if you're so inclined, you can see positives from the Montero deal. I can just see the headline: "Long Time Suffering Chicago Cubs Fan Dies of Heart Attack in Midst of Rebuilding from Week Long Wanking Session." Pretty long headline tbf though

Cubs are not there yet, but they might be something special in a couple years

Nevermind, I thought he was a Cubs fan. Wasn't he the one going on about how good they were going to be?

Either way, what the feck man!

Trade away a rising pitcher who has only gotten better in the last four years for a guy who hasn't done anything of significance since his rookie year. 25 year old righty who is just beginning to reach his potential for a guy treading downwards.

Dave is rightfully seen as a solid mover and shaker, but I don't understand this one, especially considering they're both under team control for the same amount of time. Sure, the Tigers probably weren't going to be able to resign Porcello, but are they really going to be able to resign Cespedes?

In a little over a year a rotation of Scherzer-Verlander-Sanchez-Fister-Porcello with Smyly in the bullpen/spot started has become Price-Verlander-Sanchez-Greene-Farmer (?)

It's another in a string of bad moves trying to fix the Fister deal.

First we replace him with price at the cost of Jackson and smyly. This takes smyly out of the pen so we sign Nathan. Then we trade ray for Greene to replace smyly. And now cespedes comes in to replace Jackson but at the cost of Porcello.

I'm a White Sox fan you piece of shit. I do love what the Cubs are doing though.

Apologies, that's scandalous, I've committed some sacrilege there with my suggestion

Either way, Chicago teams have become the darlings of both leagues. Can't wait for the Crosstown World Series

If the Bears weren't so shit, Chicago would be a real spoiled sports town right now

Yanks have signed Headley to a 4 year deal.

I can get onboard with that, sensible contract for a position of need.

Trades going off everywhere this offseason, its fun.

Yankees traded Prado/Phelps for Eovaldi/Jones/Prospect to the Marlins. I forgive Cashman for his non-winter meeting now, love this trade.

Yanks got younger, cheaper and got a lottery ticket power arm prospect too. Eovaldi is much better than his W/L record and ERA say he is, his FIP puts him in the Top 30 starters from last season. Only 24 years old, throws 95 mph plus and is cost controlled until 2018.

All that for Phelps who is the definition of a swingman and Prado who I liked but shifting him unblocks Refsnyder at 2B and Pirela as the utility (unless they upgrade via trades again). Jones I assume will just backup Tex at first for a year, unless they flip him somewhere else.

Sy Berger father of the modern baseball card passed away at 91. Worked for Topps and came up with the design for the modern baseball card in the early 1950's. Spent a large amount of my allowances when I was young on baseball cards. Never really liked the gum though.

Words of caution - do not try the gum when purchasing old packs of cards. Disastrous results. I did such on a dare (this was many years ago). Bleh.

Missed mentioning this one but Mr. Cub, Ernie Banks passed away at 83 on January 23rd. Great player. Hit 512 home runs, all pre-steroid era of course. MVP in 1958 and 1959. Let's play two today!

Sucks for Martinez/Tigers, when guys get older and take significant injuries in their hips or knees the alarm bells go off big time.

Moncada is free to sign now and is expected to quite quickly. Dodgers and Yankees front runners it seems, battle of the cheque books.
