All are likely to be relegated to League One with Sunderland this season!

And when you look at those players - that could possibly explain why Sunderland is being relegated.

Is it just me or do we have a bigger pool of talented players at our rank than ever before?

Who am I missing?

Mensah-Tuanzebe-Williams-CBJ
Pereira-Traore
Buffonge-Chong-Gomes
Greenwood

O’Connor, Hamilton, Gribbin, Barlow, Burkart, Puigmal, Boonen

With McTominay, Lingard and Rashford already at it for the first team, is it even possible for us to have a ‘class of 92’ esque team in a few years?

I mean that’s 17 outfield players i rate highly. Even tho some of them hasn’t progressed well lately, i'm sure I missed a good few too so that’s a lot, isn’t it?

Highly doubt we'll ever see CBJ/Williams play for the first team, CBJ's loan spells have been disasters and Williams seems to have regressed a bit. As for the rest, it's way too early to tell yet but we'd be very lucky if two or three made it. It's just the nature of youth to first team football, some may really struggle to make the step up.

So its just me then? It is this thing I think a lot of us do when rating our own academy players, i mean we should learn from earlier disappointments right? But i can't shake this feeling that there is a lot more good players in that pool now than it was before, which should at least put 2-3 through as you say and that would be good, but i'd still be a little disappointed from that return tbh. But then again, it's not easy making it, at least not at this club.

Brandon Williams and Laird are better talents than CBJ generally.

I do think there will be some clogging of pathway in the near future. Can't see us giving enough game times to Tuanzebe, Mensan and O'Connor together for example. Not to mention Williams if he finds his way back. In midfield, if McTominay and Pereira both make it can't see us having place for any of Traore, Hamilton, Kehinde, Puigmal or Garner. In attack would be magical if all of Gomes, Chong and Greenwood al makes it esp when we already have Rashford there.

I don't think a 'Class of 92' is coming, there are many things that could happen, for an example, United stopped investing in the squad could increase the chance of promoting the next class or another Munich air disaster may force United to promote many players from academy that could be classified as new class, given they all will play on their first debut.

Mctominay, Lingard, Rashford, Pogba will stay for United for more years.

I think Fosu-Mensah will be more likely to rotate with Valencia next season if we don't buy proper fullback transfer window this summer. Periera will be going on loan again to the club where they will play him in his prefered position as 8. Sergio Romero may be leaving this summer so which mean Sam Johnstone will be replacing him as a 2nd/3th choice goalkeeper alongside with Joel Periera. If United are not convinced by Shaw's progressing in years so he will make a way for Demi Mitchell to take up his place as a 2nd choice, that's Demi Mitchell who is arguably the best player at Hearts on loan. Axel Tuanzebe still will be on loan next season, IMO.

Jose said himself that he wants to promote a player from the academy every season, not giving a couple of minutes, just giving a lot of minutes like he is doing with Scott Mctominay now. I think it will be Chong who is one of the best players at the U23 after moved up to the U23 from the U18 two months ago, I think he is the one Jose is looking for promoting next season because he's right winger and likes to track back a lot, we don't have a proper right winger and left-foot on right flank, Jose said he is not looking for buying more attacker in transfer window this summer.

Next season, how our squad look like - Lingard, Rashford, Sam Johnstone, Joel Periera, Demi Mitchell, Chong, Pogba, Fosu-Mensah and Scott Mctominay = 9 academy graduates, that's 1/3 of the squad we produced from our academy.

Yeah GKs next season will be interesting. Joel Pereira, Johhstone, Henderson are all capable players with some decent football league experience. Even O'Hara is reliable enough for no.3 GK role, he's a full Irish international now lol. And we'll have another 3-5 GKs beside them in the U23s - no idea why they had so many GKs.

That's a good point. Both him and Gomes too should be more involved next season but I think Chong would slot in nicely on our rightwing.

Not unlikely but impressive non the less. Even when we get back on top with more quality all around i really hope we go with the way of having academy graduates filling squad-roles instead of buying to fill up. I think we now have the quality in our youth setup for that to be an actual feasible way to do it.

Oh yeah, that's the dream isn't it. Magical. The only thing i hope for them and the others you mentioned is that they get time to prove themselves on loan before we pass them on. Not everyone can get the same amount of time as Cleverley or Lingard of course but as we've seen with the latter, some time invested may save us a lot of money, and as seen with McTominay its not so easy to see who will get there. Anyway, generally do you think we have a bigger pool of talent now than ever before?

Big rumour going round that the U14's offered deals for next season will be in single numbers.

I could see why, not a good group bar a couple of players. I'm hoping United recruit a couple of players from other clubs and add some of the next year's U14s to that U15 group as there are some great talents in that group too.
Is the U15s the age group we got some of the best Huddersfield players in?

so we are in Second Division U23 next year with pretty talented team as we will have the most of U18 in that team next year.

This team is as good or better than the teams Joyce had winning the league imo

Anyone quietly impressed by Gribbin in the last game? I have never given up my hopes for him, and his injuries is actually a bigger problem than his attitude like what people believe.

Yeah defo impressed me, also he done extremely well against Liverpool, his eye for a pass is terrific. Hopefully he can stay clear of any injury and refind the form that put him in the spotlight.

As I've said many times I think he's significantly underrated on here. With Chong and Gomes (I count Greenwood as born to play false 9) in his favored positions it will be tough for him but I think he brings a level of creativity and passing that even Gomes can't match with all his talent. He brings a David Silva type of football which I haven't seen at the club before and I hope he can bring it to the first team in a year or two.

Stam and Carrick for U23s next season, anyone? That would be nice.
Not sure Stam would be willing to take the step backwards to youth football after already managing a club, unless he has no other options. Carrick could act as an assistant to Sbragia which would be a nice learning experience for him, although that's more wishful thinking.

hopefully not assistant to Sbragia, not sure what would he learn from him. If he will be included with U23, than he should be U23 manager. Since they are relegated, he has a year to adapt as I don't think it would be a problem to promote U23 with U18 kids from last and this year

Last two matches or so he looks like Gribbin of old ( prior to 2016-2017). Gribbin needs to stay away from injuries to make serious run towards 1st team. There is a bunch of talent flowing from U18s & he can't afford to be behind in his development. Gribbin sure is exciting prospect & United lad that I want to see him playing for United first team.

My favourite player to watch in the academy, has real class and composure on the ball.

Some exciting talent in this squad. I can't remember - do they stream this tournament?

I'm not sure trialist is really the correct term. He's one of our biggest U16 talents and a regular for England at the same age group so it seems you may have poached him unless he's just been allowed to go on tour with you(unlikely but it does happen occasionally at those age groups).

Anybody know how this kid is getting on? We signed him a year ago now from Nomads wasn't it?
