Miscellaneous Reserve/Youth News

He did well in the u15 South American Championships earlier this year and seems to be fairly highly rated. I suppose he can sign a pre-contract like Fabio and Rafael did with us and Traore did with Chelsea but wouldn't be able to play until 18

Oh fair enough, seems like city are still being aggressive in their recruitment. Would expect most clubs to be now there's no Eu on the horizon. Thanks for the info.

An American based Bosnian. How would that even work? We would have to wait till he was 18 I guess?

We have an Australian played last season in our U13s.As long as their families move to England for "non-footballing" reason it's fine.

But now that's it's been reported, wouldn't "non-footballing" reasons be harder to prove?

Jeremie Boga's move to Chelsea (a long time ago) was on the media before he made the move iirc.Probably one of our sponsors will sign his dad up.

I always thought he moved for legitimate reasons, as in his dad moved first. So Chelsea actually "bought" him?

Hopefully this is an OK thread for this question: when do the U18 fixtures get released and where do they play?

They play at Carrington, not sure when fixtures are released but would assume a couple of weeks before the season starts.

Thank you. One more question - do you need to buy tickets in advance to watch them, or can you just turn up?

Unfortunately have never had the chance to go myself but I believe you just turn up and say at the gate you are there to watch the u18 game. I think some games are played behind closed doors and not open to the public so you should check that before going. If it is on MUTV though then it should be open to go.

Here is a quote from Mr.Mujac, it is a few years old but still probably the same.
Everything PS18 has said is correct.

For those who haven't been before here is a short guide.

1. Drive to barrier and press button telling speaker that you are here to watch Academy match (only if Academy are playing!)
2. Drive a few hundred yards down over speed humps and turn left in Carrington Training Centre
3. Park up in car park directly in front of you.
4. On the left of the car park is a building which has free tea/coffee (you will see people wandering in/out
5. Straight ahead of car park is playing fields and you should follow the crowd in terms of where to sit/stand
6. The 18's play on the left hand side pitch and there is a small stand.
7. Don't start wandering around, entering the main building on the right or trying to get to first team pitches.
8. Don't ask to look around the complex...you are not allowed.
9. Most people leave straight after the game

There is no direct bus route, but a bus does stop at the top of the lane and you can walk down which is about a mile or so. Sometimes you may get a regular to offer you a lift if it's wet.

Hope this helps.

Cool, thanks.

They can play as "trialist" I believe. For friendlies you can even borrow players from other academies if needed.

Can you see players coming in to supplement the squads in this case? I know Jb mentioned potential trialists, could they be over this period?

I believe we had some last summer as well on pre-season so yeah. Two years ago in Milk Cup we had the likes of Borg and Obi.

That's good, at least they have games to look forward to. When is the tournament with psv?

Barney from Red News says Hossein Zamani of Ajax, should be sealed soon. Does anyone know how true this is or how possible it is?

He looks tall for his age. Will be interesting to see how his growth spurt affects his football.

Early days but that age group (U15s) without Zamani is already very promising in terms of attacking options - 3 England youth internationals + 1 sponsored by Nike.

What does everyone make of us turning down the opportunity for our u21s to take part in the EFL? As poor as our relationship between the academy and the FA is, surely the chance to have more competitive games for the u21s should be jumped at regardless of whether the competition is a Mickey-Mouse one or not.

The sheer lack of u21 games last season clearly stunted the development of numerous players. And yet people wonder why England's talent pool dries up after the age of 18.

Would he come this season or when he turns 16, if the move was to happen?

I don't understand that article by the daily mail. We've already been announced as one of the clubs to enter it, so I don't know why that's come out now tbh. Would be a surprise to see us pass on it as we have players that fit that exact category and the renewals that were offered seemed like they were for this competition, so I think it could be a case of wait and see.

Would be silly if we're turning this down to "focus" on the U-21 PL as the Daily Fail article i read says.

We do seem to pull out of these sort of comps regularly without giving any reasons why. From the outside its difficult to understand for various reasons, however the club's record says they usually know best so...

Complete bullshit, we apparently are one of the main club championing for more games and better competition for u21s but yet again we look to consistently decline to participate in extra competitions, we have been offered the chance to play in a senior football competition and we turn it down. Why? I really want to know what the idea is behind consistently declining these invitations, it is beyond fecking stupid. We moan about a lack of fixtures but turn down the opportunity for more, it makes no sense in the slightest.

Have we though? I've seen conflicting reports of our participation.

What do we expect of Josh Harrop this upcoming season then?

Loan and/or sold in January in my opinion. Got the ability but not developing that consistency or leadership in the Under-21s like expected. I'd imagine he'd have a few suitors in the Championship/League One.

Damn, that's a shame. Probably my favourite player from our academy.

No where has said that we are participating, simply that we were invited. We have a history of turning down competitions so it wouldn't be a surprise if we did it again.

Loan move hopefully, maybe even permanent. Love the lad, like you he is currently my favourite player at the club, but Adnan and Andreas chances don't even look bright, Harrop will be more than lucky to get a kick. Would be great to see him against Wigan. Probably best he just moves on and starts getting senior experience and building his career. Has the talent to play in the PL imo and is another player who I think would excel abroad.

Can one of you academy watchers give me an update on Goss? He was a massive talent the last I can remember but surely he's going on 30 by now?

Nah always reminded me as a Carrick lite with a left foot, such a shame he couldn't push through to the first team as his ability in the u18s really give me hopes of a really technically sound midfielder.

Yeah, I was worried about his future what with the likes of Januzaj's and Andreas' futures being doubtful, too. I'd love to see him be given the chance to play against Wigan and put in a real showing but that's more blind optimism on my side more than having anything concrete to base those feelings on.

Good player, like you I see a lot of Carrick in him but quite simply he's been unfortunate with injury, and that might have knocked him down the list given how good Willock looked last season although they're obviously different types of midfielders.

Thank you for the update! Had no idea he was suffering with injuries! And the last time I got up on a Saturday to watch the youth games was a long time ago (during Rav'el mania) so I'm a little rusty with the youth of late.

Let's hope Mourinho doesn't overlook this youth as it seems to be producing some reasonable talent.

No problem mate, and yes we'll have to see what happens but hopefully he gets it. The Wigan match will hopefully be a good chance for the youngsters to impress, and I'm hoping more will be involved than just Warren and Tuanzebe. I've been saying on here for the past couple days that our academy seems to be the best it's been in a little while.

In other news it looks like we weren't the only team to reject playing in the EFL Trophy. Makes me think something may well be going on behind the scenes that's influencing this decision although it's a shame nonetheless.
