Was one of the cheaper options we coud have considered than afro-man this summer.
That said, we appear to conduct our scouting so extensively, even if that means another club stepping in before we are quite ready to make our move, then so be it. I would not be surprised to see Strootman appear on our radar again in a couple of years to replace Carrick. Of course, any proposed deal at that time will be for a much higher price, but it seems we are willing to pay that extra often in exchange for being sure about the player.

I think we can't afford to take any more 'he might work', they need a 'he's already working', I would have loved De Rossi personally... strangely no one seems to mention him much as first choice, but I would have been very interested.
We have an obsession of situations being sorted 'for the next 10 years' on the caf that's why, and De Rossi is 29 or 30 now.

Just watched Roma-Chievo and he was fantastic, ran the show entirely.

Ljajić was much more active and participative. Wasteful at times, but created the goal.

Totally the opposite of the player you had in mind. hes top class at set pieces but the one thing that hes always had when playing well is a proper midfield around him. He had one at Lyon and he currently has one with Roma. If we did sign him we'd need someone else straight away as well. I think if we did sign him it'll be the end of Kagawa

Central right-footed playmaker with mostly offensive skills, but works well in defence too. Plays in a 3 man midfield in Roma with De Rossi and Strootman, De Rossi is the one with the defensive skills. He has started 16 of Romas 18 league games this season, has 3 goals (1 penalty and 1 free kick) and 4 assists. Also 4 yellow and 1 red card.
Pjanic is too soft. I want someone harder.

Gervinho is believed to be a very good buy for them as well and he starts nearly every match for Roma. Not that I try to downplay significance of Strootman or downplay Serie A, just saying that some players look better in other leagues than in EPL.

No surprise there, Gervinho is playing for the third different club under Rudy Garcia (at Le Mans, then Lille and now Roma). He knows how to get the best out of the alien forehead like player. Some players are just meant to perform under very specific circumstances.
I think he'd be a great signing. Looked a class act every time I've seen him.
