Built a 7 aside pitch, got to wait for the fecking grass to grow now before I can finish it. As good a time as any to go to bed!

What does it take for grass to grow? It's been 2 days now. I made a pitch, made a dirt path to my garden which is full of grass, connected it up and grass grew for one block, then it just stopped.
1. The trail of grass you have is only one wide. Make the trail 3 wide to really increase the pace.
2. Not many people have been logged in for a few days so if nobody is there the chunk is inactive and nothing happens.

Also the trees in the tree farm have been getting all mixed up, I'm going to put an example sapling outside each section so this doesn't happen any more.
Hmm would a new map for 1.3 really be the worst idea?

I have a mid-2010 15" Macbook Pro and its no slouch but I'm having a time finding the best settings (in Minecraft) to stop it draining the battery/sending the fans into overdrive.

I'd speculate it'll do that to most laptops, I'm no expert though, but I did learn something yesterday that I never even knew about Minecraft, and that's if you throw an Ender-pearl into the air, you teleport instantly to wherever it lands. I couldn't believe I never knew that before.

No, I just tend to get annoyed at creepers blowing everything up and random skeleton/zombie attacks when mining.

I think it's been dead quiet, think we're all enjoying the Summer! Would like to know your plans for 1.3 as well mate, I've been thinking it could be good to have a new map for the new football season/1.3 update.

1.3 - I'm all for starting from scratch again, I've always loved the idea of a clean start

IF we start from scratch - do we go huge biomes, or stick with normal ones?
Huge biomes sounds cool to me, just thinking I don't think everyone would be too keen to start again so soon, but a good way of pleasing both worlds could be letting people carry over a chest or two.
We could make 1 building with one or two chests in each and you could save it (using world edit) and add it to the new map, I'm happy without that but it might convince some people if they don't want to lose their stuff. Just a suggestion The other server I play on (which is a huge one) is allowing each player to save 1 building and put it into the new map, and any chests that are in them, but I think for us, a smaller server who makes a town together it's better to start buildings again!

It's more the buildings that I'm less keen on losing than the stuff. I always like to start my inventory from scratch anyway. It comes to a point when you have everything you'll ever need and it's not really a challenge any more. I have about 25 diamond blocks on the current server which I wouldn't get through if I played for a year, yet I still enjoy collecting more.
If there was a way to download the current map I'd be happy to start a new one. It's nice to be able to have a record of all the things I've built.

It just hit me, but when 1.3 is out I'll be on vacation, so the update of the server might lag behind a few days
Me too I'm gone for two weeks from the 4th. I'll miss new map day/fortnight (if that's what were doing!).

That happened to me when I installed a texture pack incorrectly.
Run the latest McPatcher. That'll fix it.
