Mikel Arteta | Lego Pep watch

It gets worse:

"I want to see fighters. In these situations you have two types of people, fighters and victims. I don't want any victims. Victims bring excuses"
So that's why he starts Bellerin or Xhaka who were crying when fans didn't clap them and say nice things.

He's a dead man walking. Another loss before New Year and I think he'll be gone.

He looked a real talent when he played some part in europa. Not good for arsenal if he leaves.

He's saying based on historical data, when you have a 67% chance of winning or more, you always have won the game. So it's incredible they didn't beat Everton.

I've also just realised I've never really heard him talk. He's dry.

City in the EFL cup and Chelsea after, isn't it? That can be brutal mate. After that, it should be better (Brighton, WBA, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Newcastle).

But Feb is brutal.

If I was the board, you with double down and back him this January or you sack the poor lad after the Chelsea game to give the new manager a chance of a somewhat decent start to his Arsenal career.
The status quo will only lead to some pretty dire situation come March.

Problem is who comes in? They essentially have a week to get an agreement with somebody which you would think involves jan funds

Maybe they go for Vieira?

Spouting some 'fachts' here

He must be talking about xG or something. Looking at the specific games he mentions the scores were as follows (xG in parathesis):

Everton 2 (0.66) - 1 (1.25) Arsenal
Arsenal 0 (1.85) - 1 (0.85) Burnley
Spurs 2 (0.39) - 0 (0.60) Arsenal

All it really shows is the value of xG as a stat.

Since the October international break Arsenal are rock bottom of the league in goals scored, shooting accuracy and shot conversion and second from bottom in shots on target. So unlucky!

I was hoping for something more sophisticated. He looks like he's been poring over excel all night. He can't just be looking at XG surely?

Can you get his percentages from those xg figures?. How do work out the 7% chance to lose against Spurs for example?

It might be well be more sophisticated - it was just speculation from my side. He mentions something about 'any PL game in history', so the logic may be something like 'if a team wins xG by +1, they only lose the actual game 3% of the time' (using the Burnley example).

But other factors could be in play, such as timing of the goals, home vs. away, etc.

I will never understand why managers say that stuff. It just opens them up to ridicule. No one in the general public (especially Arsenal fans) cares that Arsenal had a 67% chance to win against Everton, they care that they lost.

Viera maybe a ledge but one year at the MLS and 30 months at Nice.... not sure he has the experience to dig them out of the hole.

I would go for Eddie Howe but based on the presser, sounds like Edu is going to double down on Arteta.

But with such a brutal February, I suspect he will be sacked by March and someone like a Guus come in for a few months to steady the ship.

Arsenal fans must be worried seeing their manager come out with that kind of mental bollocks.

What happened to Arsenal fans on here by the way, used to be fecking loads of em. When I first joined they were by far the dominant opposition fanbase on Redcafe. Now it feels like we have maybe one or two on here occasionally.

Got replaced by Pool fans and now Spurs fans.

Faded away like Arsenal’s relevancy.

He's 110% a perfect fit manager for Arsenal and AFTV. Can't get a more on point appointment.

It's on the official ESPN twitter so it has to be.

EDIT: Found the video on reddit

As expected. He does not understand people. Stats are great but before anything else management is about people.

If you took Arteta and Arsenal out of the consideration and just looked at the league results and table, most would agree the manager of a team in such a prolonged run of form must go. Arteta might turn out to be great manager eventually but right now he's leading Arsenal down a dangerous road.

The problem with Arteta is that he has no track record to speak of, so we have no idea if he has it in him to not only turn it around but to be an actual good manager at this level in a general. That's the risk we all took when we hired former players who are complete rookies. Arsenal is a mess from top to bottom though, and it's hard to completely fault Arteta but he has made some utterly bizarre decisions that, imo, are huge red flags anyway.

Why do managers not quit? Isn't that selfishness?

So all his personality praises is nonsense, he is another self-centered elite, no different than other managers. So why does he get so much leverage, and support unlike Emery?

Imagine the scenes if Ole had said that. The absolute state of Pep’s Golden Boy!

Mikel Arteta is learning the HARD way that there is a HUGE difference between a coach and a manager.

Ole may not know Pep level tactics/coaching but he can manage egos better than many in the league. Arteta chooses to kick them out of the team. Eg Ozil, Saliba.

This was Sir Alex’s key strength. He was the greatest man manager of all time. Tactically he was no genius. He was just the greatest motivator around. He just hired some great coaches : Kidd, Mclaren, Quieroz

I wonder how many gooners would take Arsene back.

Top 4 or thereabouts with goals, youth and nice football doesn't seem so bad, eh?
I know a fair few Gooners and they would all take Wenger back. Be careful what you wish for couldn't be any more fitting.

Dont you dare
aftv the championship edition is what the world needs no demands
I would pay good money to see it myself mate. Sadly the businessmen in charge won't let it happen. There would have to be an absolute catastrophic series of events for them to fully implode and go down sadly.

I just don't get why they are 'planning' fo it. Plan to get out of the mess. They have the financial means to rectify the situation without doubt. Probably the quality too.

Whens the last time a really big side went down? Like a consistent top team for years? Leeds?

The biggest problem for arsenal will be if indeed they do get stuck there post january maybe even with a new manager is these players DO NOT have the fight to deal with a slog of a relegation battle and the only thing that would save them would be if their is 3 even worse teams
forget the size of the club lets just talk about their season
no win since they won at old trafford in october i think it was
2 goals in that time 1 being a pen
this is 2 months of football we are talking about
the team is dead

The biggest problem they have is that they are effectively acknowledging the possibility of relegation.

They should not do that under any circumstance IMO. It's far too early to think like that. There are 24 games remaining. It's the absolute worst thing they could do right now, sowing the seed of doubt in the players minds.
