Mikel Arteta | Lego Pep watch

Fair point, but it's hard to put a time scale on it, as each season is different, and each will have it's own context. Everyone will have a different opinion when that point is reached as well. Some might even have it now.

But eventually for the amount of backing he has to win the big one. Cannot always sit behind progression talks. If the next season also ends trophyless then more questions will be asked

I’ve an irrational dislike of the cnut but he’s doing / done a good job. I think next year, especially if they get someone decent in the summer, is when questions can be asked of not winning anything.

They’re still a team of 7s and 8s, lacking a 9 or a 10 to take them to the next level. Whether someone like Martinelli/Odegaard/Saka can become that remains to be seen.

A threat to them will be contracts - they’ve hit an ideal spot where the squad is made up of players who are just stepping up to that next level, who are young / didn’t have a strong negotiating position for their last contract.

Now all approaching a decent level where they all have a case for demanding significant increases, especially when you look at somebody like Havertz reported deal.

They’re likely in a much better position compared with the “paying off the emirates” days but holding on to players is where they’ve fallen apart in the past.

You have to give credit to Arteta and Arsenal for what they've achieved.

The 'next step' I would imagine is to maintain Arsenal's (current) status quo as a top 3 club and from a coaching perspective, get this team and the players to play better than the sum of its parts, which I don't think Arteta is quite doing atm. Whether that's through player or coaching inexperience, I feel there's another gear and step that hasn't been achieved that will be really hard to do.

Football is eventually about winning if you are to be considered as a top club, otherwise what's the point. Yes, they are controlling games, yes they are playing some good football. No one is denying that and neither was my post to dismiss that.

My question was , what is the end goal here. Are you saying arsenal fans will be content with just finishing 2nd or 3rd for next 2 seasons and winning no major trophies. He has been backed both from time perspective and financial perspective so end rewards should be eventually expected if you are to be treated like a top tier manager or top tier club

Ofcourse end goal is to win titles and they are on track to do that. They are a work in progress, they are improving every year and the end up goal is to win title. To do that, they need strong foundation which has everything to do with ability to control games and smash the team, Arsenal have all that.

He didn't take over club that was fighting for titles, he took over a club that was Europa league standard, completely rebuilt the team with young players. It takes time.

Mikel isn't getting sacked anytime soon. There definitely seems a vital piece missing for us to really challenge for the top honours but he'll get another go at getting it right.

I have been one of his major critique but I will give him credit where it is due. Today may not be the most fluent performance but that was very mature so full marks to him and the team.

He may have to go again next season but he has done a solid job building this squad. Full marks to their board for backing him even in hard times.

The missing piece is Pep's next job. You may just have to wait another year for that.

Pep’s waiting on PSG I think. They’re absolutely stacked at youth level now, the challenging part is what Enrique is doing now, Pep isn’t about that, he’ll go there in a season or two.

Absolutely brilliant manager. Apart from Pep (maybe Klopp?) not sure I'd have anyone else.

Excellent manager. And I agree that he probably should have won another trophy or two. But big wise, it’s very impressive what he’s been able to accomplish in 4.5 seasons at the club when you consider where the club was and this being his first ever job as a manager.

He took over a midtable squad with some big personality malcontents. And a back room staff situation that was still in chaos after the wenger power vacuum had left. And with the help of Josh Kroenke and Edu, they overhauled the squad and replaced themwith young talented player in a just a few seasons.

To do all that in 2.5 seasons and produce a title contending team is very well done for a first time manager.

Hope he stays a long time at the club

Here, I am calling it: Arteta is never winning premiership for as long as Pep is here. Others may win it, hell we may win it but Arteta is "cursed" to never get there as long as Pep is in this league. He may win it when Pep leaves

I am certain of this :)

They will win it next year.

You mean in 2025-2026? Why? Is Pep leaving end of season? :)

Even if he does, it would be hillarious for Arteta to think that is his chance and Ten Hag to swoop-in and snatch it under his nose :)

TBF I think we are 3-5 years away from legit competing but weirder shit has happened (when Pep is not around, not with him)

I mean this year. They are already good, and if they add good striker I can see them finishing first. I don't like him but he looks real deal.

I respect your opinion, but I am 100% certian Arteta and Arsenal will bottle it again this year. I am very sure of it :)

Helped us escape banter level and has now given Arsenal fans realistic ambitions of a title. If this club were ever stupid enough to sack him, Arteta would end up at Man City or Barcelona. While presumably we go and get 'Tuchel' or 'Conte' - this would be self-sabotage.

It actually pains by brain whenever ever anyone suggest sacking him. Klopp won one title in 9 years, such is the dominance of City and Pep. The argument goes that we should 'go out and get someone who can get us over the line'. So go out and get a manager who could beat Man City over 38 games no problems. Who is the mythical manager? Who is it? Who is this manager who is a sure thing to beat Man City over 38 games? Because around 12 months ago we had idiots name dropping De Zerbi as an Arteta replacement. Arteta can orgnaize a defence, De Zerbi cant..........what the F would be replace Arteta with De Zerbi?

Rival fans are surely playing games suggesting Arsenal should look to replace Arteta. Lets say we wake up to the news Arteta has been sacked replace by Tuchel.............thats Arsenals title chances over for the 24-25 season. It amazes me how people are so dense and think in the head. Even Diego Simeone wouldn't get us to the title, we would score less goals under Diego and concede more. Our goal differential in the season past is better than Atletico Madrid's goal differential in the past two seasons. The idea of Simeone for some people would be better than Arteta.........the reality wouldnt.

Its simple. We have one of the best young managers in the world showing enormous promise at such a young age. He is a former player and the potential dividend in backing him are huge. The idea of Arsenal sacking Arteta is one of the most brain-dead ideas floating around in football.

Thankfully the club isn't stupid and he is set to extent to 2028.

Oh but what if you have the opportunity to hire Thomas Tuchel ehh he he he ehe he

He does look a bit scary to me

THis manager is going to bang. I cant believe there is a faciton within our fanbase who want him gone. One dope even suggested 'Tuchel' is available.

fecking Botox, why do they do it. Almost always makes them look ridiculous. Arteta of all people didn't need that at all.
