Miguel Veloso

But he could be a useful signing for us. He is more talented than Hargreaves, as well as potentially better, he can take a cracking free kick with his left foot and he can provide valuable cover at leftback for Evra. If Silvestre leaves which looks imminent, we are a bit exposed there.

No he is not.

he can take a cracking free kick with his left foot

As can Hargreaves. See games against Fulham and Arsenal this season for more info.

and he can provide valuable cover at leftback for Evra.

As Hargreaves can provide valuable cover for Brown/Gaz at RB.

Seriously, we dont need Veloso.

I didn't say to sell Hargreaves, but first of all his passing and vision is already miles better. He can be a playmaker if he wishes, that reinforces my first point. As for FK's, i'm pretty sure Hargreaves is right footed, especially highlighted by the fact that when he dribbles he usually cuts back and turns the ball to his right foot before attemping a long pass. We already have many right footed FK takers; Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney, Scholes just off the top of my head. For lefties we only have Giggsy and he usually tries a cross. I'm just saying that Veloso is not required at this stage, but would definitely be an asset. Maybe if Scholes finally decides to hang up his boots, there would be more room for him.

veloso is the new flavour of the season. We should buy him and sell him in the next six months to bring in the next trendy name.

....

His best postion is as defensive midfielder/deep laying playmaker(think Redondo) altough he can play as either leftback or central defender too.
Actually he played the main part of his u-18 years as central defender,it was only in his last year as u-18 that he was retrained to play as a defensive midfielder.

+Good left foot,good technique,good awarness and passing.
-Heading,loses concentration occasionally.
This is my view too. He'd be fantastic for us long term IMO

We dont need him but I sure as hell wouldn't want any of rivals to get him either..... so we should buy him for that reason alone :smirk:

Nah we should buy him because he is the flavor of the season. We should also sell Scholes, he is old and unfashionable, ffs when Scholes started playing with us there was still Beverly Hills 90210 on TV.

Scholes is a massive player for us, still. But the guy is 33, he can't keep churning out the performance's on a consistant basis forever, you can't beat the clock. I don't think anyone see's Veloso as a Scholes replacement anyway, though he could turn out to be. Veloso offers versatility which he would bring to the squad and it's in the papers today that Silvestre is of to Bordeaux so we might need a player who can be cover for Evra. What's wrong with talking about the best young players in the world who are being strongly linked to us? Oh I get it, you're Fergie's mate, and you're in the know.. :smirk: ;)

Scholes has at least 2 good years left in him. Anyway I thought that we already have Scholes replacement in Anderson, Fletcher and Possenbon, not to forget that both Hargreaves AND Carrick can play in that role.

BTW why should we replace a left back cover with a midfielder?

Veloso is nothing like Scholes, neither are Anderson, Fletcher and Possenbom. I'm not saying we should sign him and play him left back, I'm just saying his versatility is a bonus.

Yes, Hargreaves AND Carrick can play that role, Hargreaves maybe to a lesser effect. Veloso looks like he has a real good chance of becoming a top player whats wrong with improving the squad? SAF is well known for being ruthless, even more so when achieving things.

So if he is not like Scholes, or Anderson, or Fletcher, or Hargreaves, or Carrick or Possenbon then why should we get him? I mean its not as if our midfield had failed us in any way. Then why should we change it?

And its nice to have players that are versatile. On the other hand you replace a left back with another left back AND not with a midfielder.

We achieved all those things without Messi whats your point? Isnt the fact that he is different a plus point?

If Giggs was young then yes, we dont need Messi. I mean whats the point of spending 40m on a winger when you would already have 2 world class articles (a young Ryan + Ronaldo) + 2 fabulous wingers as back up (Nani and Park)? Same here why should we get Veloso when we already have 5 quality central midfielders?

I think you missed what I was saying  We achieved winning the Premiership without Veloso ,you said. So I said we also did it without Messi (One of the best players in the world......) Get it? :t'was a joke:

If SAF felt Veloso would improve the squad then why not? Fletcher is never going to be a first team regular and we have yet to see how SAF is going to develop Anderson, will he be a central midfielder of a more advanced player? that's still to be answered. Scholes has 2 years in your opinion, I agree, but I wouldnt mind Veloso being brought in to either get into the first team squad or add depth when Scholes retire's.

I know its a joke (or at least I hoped so) but there again I used your example to highlight the fact that too many cooks spoil the broth, a say which isnt quite popular in this part of forum.

If SAF wanted Veloso then we will get him. Stating that I doubt that we need him expecially since we already have Scholes long term successor in Anderson.

Yes that's true, I doubt we will get Veloso. Veloso is more like Carrick anyway's but potentially better. Then again if we did sign Veloso he would be in competition with Scholes seen as though The Ginger Prince doesnt get forward much these day's and is the master of the deep lying playmaker role. I dont see Anderson as a Scholes replacement, not the old Paul Scholes, maybe the young Paul Scholes who would get into the box at every opportunity.

United's midfield gets bullied by physical sides e.g. Boro and BlackBurn, and will Veloso adds steel if signed?

We won't sign Veloso, if we are going to sign a midfielder it will be Ramsey.

Even if we sign Ramsey - which I think we will - he won't be a first team player in the immediate future. Veloso still seems surplus to me but SAF is a sucker for versitility.

Indeed. And why do people keep tossing Possenbom's name into the threads? He's lightyears away from forcing his way into the lineup. And he's probably going to be another David Jones (though it would be nice to see another player come from the youth ranks and establish himself in the first team). As seen with the Tevez transfer while having Rossi in the ranks, SAF will sign whomever he views as class despite who's in the reserves.

Exactly he won't be a first team player in my opinion till Scholes is on the verge off leaving the first XI. Makes sense for me.

Don`t see how we need Veloso at the moment. But I`m all for signing quality, so if we do I`d be happy enough. He is class.

What's with the Ramsey bumming? the kid's done feck all.

Who is "bumming" Ramsey? I just believe we won't sign a first team midfielder as we have five choices already. May sign Ramsey because he wouldn't be expected to play for the first XI just yet. Understandable for a 17 year old who has "done feck all" besides play in the FA Cup final.

Hopefully he will be as good as Curtis Weston. ;) I don't think we should spend 5 million on a young player who has about 15 sub appearances to his name.

I cant see why we are comparing Veloso with Ramsey. One is a ready made player who wouldnt settle for less then a place on the bench while the other one is a youth which will need at least 4 more years to challenge for a first team place.

Actually he's played 20 games for Cardiff. 6 of which were just as a sub. So starting 14 matches in the 2nd half of a season when you're 17 is not bad going. Were you one of those who doubted Ronaldo as well?

I don't think anyone in their right mind is comparing Veloso with Ramsey..least in terms of playing style

Great reasoning. Tell me exactly how Ramsey is anything like Ronaldo, please it will be funny..

They both started 11 league matches for their respective clubs when they were aged 17 (before big money moves, Ramsey could still be a Cardiff player next season).

Also the likes of Arsenal, United and Liverpool were/are after both of them.
