Miguel Veloso

I cant see why we are comparing Veloso with Ramsey. One is a ready made player who wouldnt settle for less then a place on the bench while the other one is a youth which will need at least 4 more years to challenge for a first team place.

Why the heck would any player who is currently playing professional footy be willing to wait 'at least 4 years' to challenge for a place in the team? That's nonsense, just because Ramsey is 17 now, he'd expect to feature within the next couple of seasons i'm sure.

They both started 14 matches for their respective clubs when they were aged 17.

Also the likes of Arsenal, United and Liverpool were/are after both of them.

So Ronaldo is Ramsey? or Ramsey will be Ronaldo?

Every year their are a bunch of young players that burst onto the scene playing with no fear and catching the eye, it doesnt mean we should go buy them. If Cardiff had either Sam Hewson or Rodrigo they would have played most of the season and caught the eye too.

How in the hell you can base an arguement that this kid is the new Ronaldo by the simular number of appearance's he made is a new low even for the caf.

You do know that if you're calling Flawless stupid for think Ramsey is worth a punt, then you're effectively calling Fergie stupid?

You obviously don't watch any reserve team football. Hewson and Rodrigo wouldn't really have caught the eye from what I have seen if they had played for Cardiff. Hewson wouldn't even have gotten a start.

I only compared Ramsey and Ronaldo because of the age they were when they were linked to a big club. That's it. I didn't doubt Ferguson about Ronaldo, and I don't see any reason to doubt Ferguson if he chooses to go after Ramsey. But to say Ferguson shouldn't sign Ramsey because he had "done feck all" is a foolish statement, which is why I brought the comparison of Ronaldo who hadn't really done a great deal at Sporting before we signed him either (don't think he even played in the Cup final a la Weston).

Before we signed Ronaldo, Juventus where pretty close in signing him themselves. Everything was sealed, the player wanted to go to Juve, the scouts gave their go ahead and everything seemed set. Yet, when Sporting slipped a 12m tag around the boy's neck, Juventus hesitated and we stepped in. The rest is history.

Im not saying that every talent is like Ronaldo. Quite contrary, its hard to make the grade nowadays + youth talent are so difficult to assess. Take Richardson for example. At one point he was doing so well in the EPL scoring two goals in his international debut and then, he simply vanished. On the other hand if a good talent comes on your path then there is nothing wrong in signing him up expecially when the fee isnt that high (5m is not that much for an FA finalist and a promising talent)

Scholes has two good years left in him and Anderson is set to take his place. In that situation its hard to attract talent like Veloso. On the other hand a youth talent such as Ramsey or Rodrigo wouldnt mind that. They will be loaned for a year or two and return better then ever to compete with Anderson for a first team place.

I read the transfer forum posts and deep down I feel sad because we only mention world class talent or at least finished products. FFS thats not the Manchester United's way. Our success is built by developing players and build sides and not simply by buying players. Let puts things clear I dont mind if the club spends 20m for a player that is needed but we definately dont need to spend 20m on a third striker or 10m for a 6th midfielder.

Choose anybody but Ronaldo, nobody can be compared to Ronaldo. Foolish statement. :smirk: It was clear at 17 Ronaldo was something special, and he had good pedigree coming through the famous sporting acadamy. Why the feck do I have say this? I'm off never to return, happy ramblings..

:wenger: ok

Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson has sounded out Sporting Lisbon for star midfielder Miguel Veloso.

The Sun says Megson has been told to cough up £16million for Sporting's international midfield star Veloso, 21.

Bolton boss Megson turned to Portugal for his first transfer move of the summer but Sporting slapped a huge tag of 20m Euros on their man.

If he goes to Bolton i will eat my own head.

Reports in Portugal suggest that Italian giants Milan are preparing a summer swoop for Miguel Veloso.

The Sporting Lisbon midfielder has attracted interest from a host of Europe's top clubs in recent seasons, without a formal approach being made.

However, it is now understood that negotiations concerning a potential move to Serie A are already underway.

With Gennaro Gattuso's future at Giuseppe Meazza still unclear, Milan are keen to bolster their midfield options and view the 22-year-old as the ideal replacement for their ageing Italian international.
The Rossoneri are also hoping to use Argentinean defender Leandro Grimi, loaned to Sporting in January, as a bargaining tool in any potential deal.

Veloso is currently preparing to represent Portugal at Euro 2008, and is reluctant to discuss his future, but it is thought that a bid of around 25million euros (£19.8m) could see him on the move during the close season.

If Sporting make it clear that they are prepared to let Veloso leave then Milan can expect competition for his signature from English quartet: Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham.

Its stupid to move to Milan if you want chances. They still have a settle midfield so they are just looking for bench players.

Kaka, Pirlo, Gattuso/Flamini and Seedorf are still the first team players and after them come Flamini/Gattuso, Ambrossini. Veloso rather stay at Sporting by now.

I thought Gattuso is on his way out?

isn't Gourcuff still lingering around there somewhere?

Supposedly Veloso can play LB in addition to midfield. Not sure who Inter have at the LB spot currently.

Seedorf, Gattuso, Pirlo and Milan are not exactly young. Maybe this indicates Milan are changing their OAP philosophy.

Who Inter have on LB will have very little bearing on where Veloso plays for Milan. :smirk:

So, you don't wish Veloso to United, Chief? Anyway, your worst fear has come true, Chelsea are apparently targeting Spalletti.

On the contrary. I still want him. But as long as Arsenal do not get to partner him with Fabregas. Even if we didn't get him, I will be happy.

Yes.:( I hope it works out not. I have big hopes of him one day taking over at United

Havn't seen him much. Would him being a mixture of pirlo gattuso be overstating it a little. Just heard good things about him. He's a deep lying playmaker who loves a tackle. Their very hard to comeby if true.

From the two games i've seen him play i would say he doesnt possess the dogedness of Gattuso or the finess of Pirlo however he is a big guy, has a strong left foot, an eye for a pass and looks generally very classy.

Wouldn't be a bad signing for any big team in my opinion because he really stood out for Sporting and not just because of his rediculous hair.

There's nothing of Pirlo in Veloso from what I've seen, he's just a defensive midfielder in the Macherano mode. I've seen him quite a lot for Sporting and for Portugal under-21 and his job in both teams was just winning the ball back and then giving it to Moutinho. Cantona would call him a water carrier.

He'd be a mint signing for someone like Arsenal, just a guy who can win the ball back and let Fabregas and the flair players do their thing. We don't need him at all though.

I don't think that Veloso would add anything to our team that we don't have already. Unless we are buying better players than Scholes, Hargreaves, Anderson, Fletcher or Carrick then we shouldn't really be too interested.

Move to Genoa finally confirmed, Sporting informed the Portuguese stock exchange this morning, should be unveiled at Genoa next week
