Brilliant

It's shit like this which has taught me to be very suspicious about most of the names thrown around the transfer forum.

It was strange that nobody ever took the punt on Veloso, while he was always bandied about as a major up and coming talent.

Any idea what Genoa paid for him? When he was rumoured to join United they were talking about 20M +. I can't see Genoa paying anywhere near that much.

In the past season and a half the club most likely to sign him was Bolton. So dont expect a large fee.

Isn't he more a jack of all-trades, master of none type of player?

£7.5mil and could end up paying an extra £415,000 should they qualify for Europe.
Sporting did insert a sell on clause though which entitles them to 20% of the profits should Genoa sell on Veloso for a figure exceeding 10 milion Euros which is roughly £8.3

Shux hey, the market really does go mad as soon as a "youngster" has just a little bit of hype around him.

By far the worst culprit I have probably ever heard was todays Beeb gossip column (from the Mirror, so what was I expecting):

"Manchester City are ready to snap up £34m-rated Barcelona midfielder Gai Assulin for nothing after the Israeli teenager cancelled his contract with the Catalan club."

BBC Sport - Football - Wednesday's gossip column - transfers and rumours

34M rated? For what, a player who's not even broken into Barca's first team yet? Madness hey.

On topic, Veloso and Moutinho have kind of fallen on the wayside since the initial hype surrounding both of them. They are both still young enough to make a impact, aren't they?

I saw that assulin thing. In fact I was going to start a thread asking if the mirror are just generally on a wind up. I mean, who the feck even wrote that. The journo has finally got to a national paper, albeit a laughable one, and serves up that shit.

Maybe before the contract was cancelled that was the approx fee required to get him that was floated around.

Was watching Veloso Vs. Milan last night, a few Scholesque passes and really created and started all the tempo for Genoa, credit to them they nearly won too but Zlatan put in a deadly finish from a great pass by Pirlo.

Was surprised to see him move to Genoa but apparently he's looking awesome and I won't be surprised if this was his stepping stone to a big club.

Sporting got so weak and monotonous over the years that these two players really hindered their expected progression, and were showing no more at 23 than they were showing at 18.

Both eventually gave lesser leaps (one to a better team, the other to a better league) for less money than was ever expected. Moutinho has been doing very well for us (a great breath of fresh air on our midfield, much more interesting player than Meireles was), and Veloso seems to be doing ok as well from what is said here.

Eventually they both might still make it to the highest of levels, we'll see. I'm really very happy with Moutinho, not disappointing at all and a good contribution to our 10 victories streak this season.

He's prettier than Piqué. He's on Genoa, no idea how he's doing though.

Last time I saw him he looked miles overweight. That was when he was still at Sporting though.

How's Moutinho getting on Arruda? I loved to watch him in the U21 tournament a while back.

Moutinho is great, he's doing better than Meireles was for us and we managed to profit a bit in those two transactions so we're better off with him.

He developed into a slightly different player than expected though, I thought he was going to become a sublime playmaker with a good instinct for goal (a bit like Fabregas is now) but he became more of a hard working box to box type of midfielder (and lost his goal instinct unfortunately, only scored once this season). But he's superb at both recovering balls and keeping possession, when our possession is threatened we just pass him the ball and he'll find a way to hold it, very reliable. He's small but he's strong, very hard knocking him to the ground (except if he's diving of course ;) ).

One of the great stalwarts of our team this season definitely, probably the player with more minutes on his legs and he never looks tired.

Hmmmm interesting that he's developed into that kind of player. Maybe more suitable to the Premier League that way :)

Yes, I think he's one of the most PL suited midfielders we have. That said my guesses are almost wrong, I thought Meireles would suffer immensely there

I recommend you watch the Europa League semi-finals against Villarreal, those are bound to be great matches between to very even teams and pay attention to him, his positioning, defensive work, etc. He rarely has bad games so there's a good chance you'll get an understanding of his average type of performance and play style.

Yeh I probably will. I didn't even know Moutinho played for Porto until just now though!
