What, the fan or take it apart and do the whole heatsink too?

If you have some arctic silver, then clean the heat sink as well. Like I said, we are clutching at straws here, but I cannot see it being a heat-sink problem when you just turn it on. The only thing that I can think of is that it is getting upset that the fan is not going to required RPM and is thus saying I'm not turning on if I have no cooling. Try the fan first, plenty of lube.

Cheers my friend, every little helps!

Oh and just because I admitted I actually like the PS3 in this thread, it doesn't mean you can spread bad rumours about me! I'm still not going to own one until it's worth my money.

Oh and until they get off their stupid fecking asses and do something similar to the XNA, after all it was Sony that allowed me to make games professionally in the first place.

Does anyone play Metal Gear online?

Im having trouble getting a game started in the auto matching lobby at times.

What am I doing wrong.

My brother has stole my copy of me so I haven't been on it in a while. When I get it back I'll give you a game.

I heard Konami were having trouble (again) with their servers, so I don't think it has anything to do with your settings.

Is it just me or is this game actually... you know... a bit shit?

I've only been playing it for a few hours and am hoping it gets a lot better before I finish it but it's already doing my head in.

There's no doubt it's visually stunning and the gameplay is ok (apart from the whole "triangle = cover" thing, where it's often not obvious whether you're in cover or not and you end up stuck to the fecking wall, getting shot to bits) but the narrative is unbelievably stupid and the cut-scenes are some of the most boring, vague, confusing and downright irritating shite I've ever watched on my PS3.

I've read all this guff about how this game should be thought of as an "art-house" movie, with all sorts of clever multi-layered allegories and some such. Bollox to that, it's a load of pretentious wank, with terrible voice-acting, a completely impenetrable plot, interspersed with juvenile fart-jokes.

And they just go on and on and on and on and on and on. And on.

In fact, the cut-scenes are so nails-on-a-blackboard annoying that I end up skipping through them every time, which means I miss out on whatever little narrative interest the convoluted plot might add to the game and the whole thing becomes a fairly mundane third-person shooter.

I loved the earlier incarnations of MGS, when the whole "sneak" element was a completely fresh idea and it was like nothing I'd ever played before. But with each new version, it seems as though the fun is slowly getting taken out of it, in favour of painfully self-indulgent wankery by Hideo Kojima. IMO, this latest game in the series has hit an all-time low.

Or am I missing something?

I think it is just you.

(And perhaps 360 owners, but then again FFXIII was shit up untill 2 weeks ago, now it is brilliant, I wonder why?)

Oh yeah, another thing about the game-play, have you noticed how most of the time you can get from A to B by just sprinting through the middle of the war-zone.

You could sneak but why bother? It just takes that bit longer to get to the next painfully extended cut-scene.

Actually, when I put it like that...

Well you could make that sort of argument for any game I suppose. Why level up on FF?

Because it is all part of the fun. I sped through the game the first time round, killing anything and everything and trying out the vast array of weapons on offer. Sneaking through though and not killing anybody gives you so much more satisfaction as you progress.

I loved every moment of this game. Yes it is cut-scene heavy, but you don't have to watch them and you knew that being a MGS game there were going to be lots and lots of cut-scenes. That has been the case with all Metal Gear Solid games.

Which Act you upto?

Don't know. Only been playing for a couple of hours.

Basically just met up with bunch of solider-type folk (one of whom keeps shitting himself) and was doing battle with weird, shrieky 8-eyed ninja-things.

Ah, you're fighting the Frogs, great enemies aren't they?

If you don't kill any you get a statue;)

That's a bit cowardly though, isn't it? Won't the pant-shitting bloke and his mates kill them for you, while you're hidden away somewhere, trying to blend with the furniture?

Hope I'm not being too negative here but - at the risk of sounding like Eamon Dunphy - I can't help being disappointed that it's a good game but not a great game.

When you playthrough second time on hardest difficulty and skip cutscenes it's better :p

Also, the online mode is addictive as hell :|

Think I've ogt about 200 kills, and 250 deaths \o/ I suck, but it's class... may have a go now actually :)

I just finished act 2 and the bastards have been talking for the past 15 minutes  I could have bought the F2007 in Gran Turismo by now

The cutscene length is the only detriment Lawman. Although I found in one of them I could zip around the ship thingy using the MkII or whatever it is and pick up some items.

If you find the cut-scenes unbearable now don't bother playing the rest of the game, the latter half (End of Act 3 onwards), is more cut-scene heavy (Every minute is worth it if you're an MGS fan though).

And reviews, previews, along with previous MGS titles pointed you in the direction of it being a cut-scene heavy game. I enjoyed them all, and in all honesty looked forward to them. I can only think of one that seemed to drag on a bit, and the ending (About 1 hour 15 in length, give or take 10 minutes), flew by for me.

The only parts I find unbearable are the ones that involve characters who aren't Snake, dont know why, I love the guy so find it annoying when its about Naomi/Sunny. Doesn't matter anyway, starting Act 4 , still amazed I managed to be spoiler free :D

And I'm addicted to Gran Turismo again,

I wish I had more time to play all of these. :(

Kojima admits he may produce future Metal Gear title

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima has conceded that he may end up producing another instalment in the popular stealth franchise at some point, despite previously claiming that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots would be his last.

Speaking during an interview with Kikizo, Kojima commented, “When we look ten years into the future, maybe yes, I may well end up spending more time on the Metal Gear series.”

“I always intend to stay true to these statements; I do always say what I actually feel at that time, after each Metal Gear, when I say I am going to move on to the next project.

“But it’s like when Hayao Miyazaki says he is not going to do more, and then always ends up doing it.”

Guns of the Patriots is the last canonical title in the series to feature protagonist Solid Snake, though Kojima has confirmed that a fifth instalment will eventually be made, with rumours pointing towards a prequel involving Big Boss.

I hope it's true. I don't think a Metal Gear Solid without Kojima's input would be the same.

Just finished Act One, feck me this game is the shiz! Does it get any better too?

I wanna know who this Johnny Akiba guy is! I think I already know though ;)

It gets better as the game progresses:D

Johnny Akiba you should know, if you're an MGS fan.

Act 2 was my favourite, closely followed by Act 4 (You'll find out when you get there:D)

Fair enough, I shall plough away with Act two now.....christ I haven't even touched Uncharted or Ratchet yet :nervous:

Whilst waiting for my 360 to be delivered back to me i decided to play through this again. Just finished act 1 as well!
