Gaming Metal Gear Solid

Well, it's not taking my PS3 on holiday with me.

I've seen pubs with dartboards, pool tables, bar billiards, fruit machines, table football, Internet access, but I've never seen one with video game boxes.
They have them in Japan, but then they have everything in Japan

Just started act 4, I thought there was something wrong with my bloody disc at first!!

Nice touch by Hideo Kojima.

Just completed Act 2, did OK but 17 Alert Phases is fecking ridicolous, used 4 recovery items in the last 30 something seconds 'cos the Gekko kept kicking me!

Yahtzee didn't like it at all.

I've played it, and thought it was good, but no way would I classify it as one of the best games ever.

And frankly I really, really didn't like the storyline (or at least the few hours I saw, and what my friend filled me in on the rest); seemed too convoluted and non-sensical.

Isn't that an oxymoron?

Just completed this badboy, absolute epic game, it usually takes me months to complete any game but I've nailed it since I got it on Friday and enjoyed every minute of it. I'm looking forward to watching the epilogue tomorrow far to tired now :boring: and doing it again on the hardest difficulty.

I played this game yesterday. very good.

very reminiscent of Goldeneye for me, which was an excellent game. I am glad you can shoot guys and not just sneak around, which is what kept me from enjoying MGSIII since I kind of suck at sneaking about in fantasy worlds.

Question:

I just finished Act 1 with no continues on normal difficulty. In fact I didnt even come close to dying. Is this normal? Finding it a bit too easy. Does it get really hard later on? I enjoy games when I get stuck at a certain part but this has been pretty straightforward till now.

Do you lot die often in the later stages of the game?

I got this on launch and finished it a few days later, its an excellent game, easily one of the best of this generation. Maybe could have done with a few less cutscenes (I ended up with about 18 hours playtime and 10 of those I think were cutscenes!) but they were well done, the graphics were incredible and the voice work is excellent for the most part. Good story, nothing really revolutionary about the gameplay but the new camera was a good addition.

I don't think theres anything in the game that is to difficult. The closest I came to getting stuck was a boss fight in Act 4 which took me several continues an over an hour to beat, but that was the only boss in the game that gave me any bother. Theres an annoying sneaking section in Act 3 that can be a bit tricky if you don't have the patience, but the rest of the game can be done without any stealth at all. Theres nothing really that difficult in the game where you'll get stuck, but I prefer that as I hate not being able to progress in a story because of a stupid puzzle or hard boss.

Well considering you are on normal I'm not surprised. Unlock Big Boss Extreme once you have completed it and play on that difficulty:D

Oh and if you can complete it in under 5 hours, have no alerts, no continues, use no healing items, use no special items and kill no-one (even the bosses), you will get the Big Boss Emblem.

Good luck:D

finished it few days ago and thought it was ace - the boss fights were great and getting to use rex and revisiting shadow moses gave me a big fanboy kick.

the length of the ending took a shine off it for me though, i think it was because i finished it at around 11pm and then had to sit through all the epilogue on top of the fact that the last hour or so of the game is actually limited to very little in the way of gameplay anyway - I found it to be too much - i'm gonna give it another week or so before i replay it.

How do you not kill the bosses?

Red Aaron I agree about the Shadow Moses part of the game, was my favourite Act and actually getting to use Metal Gear Rex was amazing I really enjoyed the ending though, flew by for me.

I see, I might try for that one myself, I suppose you can use any weapons on the bosses and then use non-lethal ones on the girls. What about vamp, does that not count as a kill?

Is this a mission single-play? Or can you play online etc

I really enjoyed the ending though, flew by for me.

t'was a good end just too long at the time, I did the last 2 acts in succession so i'd been at the game for long enough that evening, it was late, i was tired, and it seemed to go on forever!

Ok MGS fans.....explain to me why this is so good?

3rd person games were never my thing, but then i played uncharted and that changed things a little.

I'd especially like to know how well the controls perform....as in am i going to move around like a spastic playing it or are they easy to learn and control?

Controls are easy to get into and are a big improvement on past MGS games.

MGS4 is simply one of the best games ever.

Completed yet Weaste?

One of my favourite moments of this game has to be near the end when you have to bash the triangle button whilst Snake crawls through the microwave filled corrider. A touch of genius and it really connected you with Snake, both pushing on for that last final push. By arm was nearly falling off by the end. Amazing stuff!

No, not touched it for over a week. Simply do not have time. :(

Anyway, the missus is taking the kids to the village where her mother was born (the entire family goes and camps there for 2 weeks every summer - I don't go because it's not good for my health) on the 16th, so I'll have 2 weeks to play then without any distractions.

Cant believe you havent clocked it yet Weaste, my little bro did it in just under 5 days!

Excellent game but the cutscenes are a bit much. Especially when they have the cheek to say "take a break you've been playing for X hours..." really? or have I been playing for 30 minutes and watching way to many cutscenes?

Ah good, it is a game that is deserving of full attention.

Be interesting to see what they do with MGS5.

Metal Gear franchise will go on probably, the Metal Gear Solid franchise is over. If i rememebr correctly Kojima said this himself.

But I could be wrong, not a MGS fan so I dont really keep track of these things
