Gaming Metal Gear Solid

All at a loss. ;)

A huge one at that, still, doubt it will hurt them too much, they're loaded!

I seem to remember reading somewhere though that by August production costs should be down to more or less the selling price that the PS3 retails for, don't know if there was any truth in it or not.

Not much they could have done in all honesty, HD-DVD would now have been the standard HD OD format, and XB360 would not be catchable if Sony had not entered the market when they did, and they were pushed. The actual losses are well masked in any case, nobody really knows what it is. PS3 has been used as a pushmepullyou of the entire corporation.

In any case I think they will eventually make a profit. People don't seem to realize how well the PS3 is doing consideing all the negative press it gets and it is in a better position than the PS2 was at the same time in its life-span.

I'm fairly confident the PS3 will ship over 100m units during its life-time and I wouldn't be surprised if they surpassed the PS2's total sales. I actually think a recession will help the video games industry rather than adversely affect it.

Just finished act 1 :)

Got hardly any Drebin points for the act :p Continued about 10 times, killed most the people, got loads of alerts, but it's all good fun \o/

AWESOME game. I am currently on an SDTV, and it even looks good on that, gonna hook it upto the HD later me thinks :)

With Metal Gear Solid 4 confirmed at half a million sales in Japan and one million in Europe, the big question is, just how many copies has the game sold overall. While we don't have sales figures just yet, we do know the game's shipped number: three million.

Famitsu.com, in its coverage from a Sony investor meeting in Tokyo today, reported that the game has topped this milestone in worldwide shipped units. Speaking at the meeting, Sony Computer Entertainment president Kaz Hirai also noted that the game helped shift hardware.

Games were put a bit on the back burner for this particular briefing though, as Hirai announced a number of non-game initiatives for the PS3 and PSP, including new video and news services.

Only been out 2 weeks aswell.

Been reading the MGS4 Database today, interesting stuff.

fecking hell, an hour and 20 minutes the final cutscene is.

Ruined the game completely, there are some absolutely ludicruous plot developments in it, and it's boring as feck.

Couldn't disagree with you more. Thought the ending was superb, complicated to follow, but didn't feel like 80 minutes to me, flew by.

I enjoyed the ending, but it had a very Return of the King feel to it, in a "surely this part should be the ending" sort of way, for about 5 different parts.

a completely retarded statement that

I am getting bored of cutscenes now tbh, lots of stupid drivel which has not alot to do with the story.

Awesome gameplay still keeping me gripped though

Just finished Act 3, lent my sis the ps3 as I am off to Cyprus for 2 weeks, and the chick I am going with won't let me take the ps3 :(

The Cut-Scene at the end of Act 3 was probably one of the best in the game!!

Well, it's not taking my PS3 on holiday with me.

I've seen pubs with dartboards, pool tables, bar billiards, fruit machines, table football, Internet access, but I've never seen one with video game boxes.

a completely retarded statement that

Err, hardly.

Obviousy it didn't ruin the game itself, as the gameplay was still fantastic, but it destroyed the story/plot for me. Hideo Kojima just does not know when to let a dead character stay dead, one character in particular springs to mind. And some of the dialogue was just shockingly bad, so cliche and cringe worthy, took away from the rest of the game completely.

I suggest your turn that into a white font so as not to ruin it for anybody who hasn't completed it yet.

No, I'll never turn into a Bill Gates, because one thing said/written by R.J. Michael is ingrained in my mind.

I don't really know enough about Bill Gates for that statement to mean anything to me.

I say we need more Bill Gates in the world.

Bill Gates for President!

This is
a joke!

I think that anything that Microsoft ever produced is rather "instantly forgetable if not instantly crap." The only decent products they ever released were from companies they bought, and even then they managed to feck a lot of them up. The only decent thing they did was Office, and even today they are trying to feck that up as much as possible.

You ought not to laugh unless you have played it.

I'm laughing because it's hilarious. Imagine sitting their watching a cut scene that's 1hr 20mins. Must be great fun. To be fair, I liked the first MGS, but even that took the piss with the cut scenes.

I'll laugh again.

If you're a fan of the series it is great. Fair enough if it doesn't take your fancy, but I much prefer a game with a great story, which is why it is no surprise that my favourite two series of games are Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid.

Have to admit that is funny, sitting there and watching a cutscene for an hour  It must be a bloody good storyline then.

Final Fantasy 7 had a great storyline. The others we're pointless and tedious. Although, I accept something must have got lost in translation. FF7's one of my fav games, ever, so it's not like I don't enjoy the series when it's done right.

There's a difference between a good storyline and sitting their watching a movie length cut scene. It's a game not a movie.

You can skip the movies in MGS4 if you're not interested in them, you'd still very much enjoy the game.
