Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Database on the way!

+ Posted by Brandon Laurino // Konami Online

Hi all – Firstly, we’d like to thank you for helping us make the launch of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots a tremendous success, with a special thanks to the many of you who attended our midnight launches to support it. It was great to meet so many of you in person, and the some of the MGS related costumes were truly spectacular. We had a lot of fun, and we hope you did too.

Of course, the launch of MGS4 is just the beginning – with it now in your hands, surely you are finding that there is much to discover within the game itself. It’s packed with so much, in fact, that there is bound to be new revelations, strategies, and details in the coming months as everyone makes their way through every nook and cranny. Add in Metal Gear Online, with its endless and deep multiplayer game play, as well as new downloadable content forthcoming - there is truly so much more to come, with our continued support of MGS, that will extend well through this year.

With that, we are happy to reveal a very special surprise, upon the PLAYSTATION Store update tomorrow (Thursday June 19th) we will be releasing the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Database!

The MGS4 Database is a free, downloadable interactive application that contains the official knowledge base of everything that is Metal Gear, reaching all the way back to the very beginning of the franchise. Including complete storylines, character profiles, relationship diagrams, and much more! The MGS4 database is a great way to catch up for someone new to Metal Gear, as well as a useful resource for any veteran of the series, with complete official details on every aspect of the intricate Metal gear lore.

The MGS4 Database also contains a special feature – if you want to make use of the database, but have not yet fully played through MGS4 yet and are worried about spoilers – all MGS4 spoilers are “blacked out” until you’ve beaten MGS4. Give it a try!

But that’s not all, within MGS4, check out the EXTRAS option of the main menu (if you haven’t already). There’s already new, free downloadable content available for the game - with new camouflage and a new music track for the in game iPod. There will be more forthcoming, so be sure to check this often!

That's actually just what i needed, since i can barely remember the storylines of 1 and 2 despite finishing them both and a few times, and didn't even finish 3. Let alone the older Metal Gears that i haven't even played. I still 'got' the story of MGS 4 though completely, strangely.

Well that'll be interesting few hours of my life taken up:D

On my second playthrough on Big Boss hard at the minute, managed not to kill anybidy yet and have only been spotted once and I'm about 3/4 the way through Act 1.

To get the Big Boss Emblem you have to play it on the hardest difficulty, beat it in under 5 and a half hours with no continues, no alerts, no kills (including bosses), no recovery items used and no special items used.

Good luck!

SCEE taking us for cnuts again and not even putting the MGS Database on the European PS Store:mad:

Downloaded it from the US Store but it isn't recognizing my complete game so I don't have access to the MGS4 content.

SCEE really are a useless bunch of t***s

question: if you skip a cutscene can yougo back to it?
I'm saying this as if the cutscenes are too long and I have to jet out for some reason or other don't want to miss the story

still considering getting this game!`

You can't go back to them no, so I'd recommend going on it when you have hours at a time to burn. You can pasue it though so if you want to help kill the planet just leave your PS3 on pause.

Weaste have you still not got it?

Well, here's something you don't see every Thursday. That giant red slice of the Japanese hardware pie is the Metal Gear Solid 4-inspired spike of PlayStation 3 sales, with some 75,000 consoles sold over the past week—that's including the MGS4 bundle—according to Media Create. With the PSP continuing to sell well, thanks to Monster Hunter, Sony is enjoying rare sales chart dominance in the nation.

We don't expect to see the PS3 kicking this much tail next week, but with a handful of appealing releases—Initial D Extreme, Soul Calibur IV, Siren— and this shot in the arm for sales of Sony's big box, it should at least help keep the console out of the ghetto for the Summer.

PlayStation 3 - 75,311
PSP - 64,675
Wii - 45,564
Nintendo DS - 39,201
PlayStation 2 - 7,297
Xbox 360 - 2,163

Pleasing results for Sony and Konami, will be interesting to see Junes monthly figures next month.

Anyhoo just completed Act 1 on Big Boss Hard, stats aren't to bad if I'm being honest, although I'll have to improve to get that Big Boss Emblem. Also I got A statue for not killing any of the Frogs after the meeting with Rat Patrol Team 1. Get in!

I also now have it, got it Sunday, didn't get to play till Monday, nearly missed work, slept all Tuesday :@ Nightshifts :@ played about 30mins.

To take tonight off work? Hmmm ¬_¬ Or not.

Definately going to play through on hardest difficulty once completed on this :) I suck at this stealth business though! Can't get to grips with CQC, always try to knock the gun away instead of knockin em out :(

It's jizz in an ice cold glass to a promiscuous nymphomaniac.

So where are you upto on it?

Try and avoid combat as much as possible, and always use your MKII to scout the area and electrecute any soldiers that are around.

You can do that?! I didn't even know you could move the little shithouse!

Yeah just equip it from your items, handy little thing! It can also pick up all weapons/items/ammo. Click x to put it into stealth so the soldiers don't spot it.

Nearly finished Act 2 and only been spotted once so far, and yet to kill somebody. You get so much more satisfaction from the game when you take your time with it and use the non-lethal weapons. Really is a great game.

What do you make of it Keyzer?

Brilliant so far but i would say that anyway being a big fan of all of the other titles. I have only just finished act one and am still mastering all the stealth moves etc. The upload time at the beginning of each act is my only complaint.

Hmm, I sorta like killing dudes, headshots etc :)

Try to do it without alerting others though.

Get stressed waiting about to move past people without being noticed, prob go through it on hardest mode, then try doing it all without being spotted once :)

That's just how good it really is

I mite start my second playthrough on a harder difficulty soon then. First playthrough my tactic was to use the tranq gun as much as possible. Gonna try a different tactic this time, will try using the mkII as well if it helps.

My first playthrough was just kill, kill, kill. Didn't care about being spotted or anything and just blasted my way through. This time I'm using the tranq gun and so far have only killed 2 enemies, beating the B&B Unit with non-lethal weapons is a challenge though!

It may not ever reach the lofty sales plateau that Grand Theft Auto IV hit, but it'll certainly be one of the generation's biggest sellers, as recently proven by a Konami press release.

According to the release, the publisher has revealed that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has officially topped the 1 million mark in sales during its first week of availability. Yesterday, we learned that MGS4 was enjoying similar success in Japan, outselling the second-place piece of software by a ridiculous 12:1 ratio. The US? Well, we're still waiting on the NPD numbers, but we're guessing it topped a million here, too. There's no doubt that MGS4 is both the artful masterpiece and financial blockbuster everyone expected it to be.

"The Metal Gear Solid series has again proved its huge potential, and we are delighted with the fantastic response the game has enjoyed at retail," commented Martin Schneider, Sales and Marketing Director Germany for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. "MGS4 is nothing short of a masterpiece an epic conclusion to the Solid Snake story. We are extremely pleased with the positive feedback we have received from retail and consumers alike, and will keep satisfying their needs with updates to the games Extra option, and via new content to Metal Gear Online."

Very impressive, and least of all surprising.

MGS4 has almost sold 2 million copies , dont know how many copies of PS3 has been sold worldwide so far but considering the ps3 was the least prefered console for a while that is pretty damn impressing.
God of War3 is going to be showcased at E3 apparently so PS3 is really picking up steam.

Anyways MGS4 looks stunning and judging from reviews from the new sites you can actually trust(you hear that gamespot) it could very well end up being one of the best games ever.

It already is one of the best games ever, if not the best.

And it must be around 14m consoles sold for Sony now.
