Gaming Metal Gear Solid

Still has a way to go to match FFX, that sold 1,900,000 (Just higher I think) in 4 days in Japan alone.

Are worldwide sales for MGS4 out yet?

No PS3 game has ever sold more than 500,000 in Japan full stop, there are only 2,000,000 PS3s sold in Japan as of the start of this month, so it was never going to break a first day record was it. It's surprising in that Japan is MGSs weakest market, yet it has seemingly got a 1:7 attach ratio in its first day!

Worldwide must be over 1,000,000 on the first day, easily. It was never going to do GTA or Halo numbers, but 300,000 for Japan alone to me is astonishing.

I would have thought there'd be more than 2m PS3's in Japan, quite low considering it has been out for 3 years now, although most of them I'm sure will buy one when FFXIII is released, they're RPG crazy over there.

Wii has sold around 6 million, but it was launched at 25,000 Yen compared to 60,000 for the 60GB PS3.

PS3 is doing ok in Japan.

Software sales have been the biggest problem for PS3 up until now, not hardware (it's still too expensive to become mainstream). Thus why 300,000 MGS is some pull off in my mind, and that does not include copies bundled with hardware. I expect serious shifting of consoles here.

Sony don't need to rush the PS3 at all, for the monsters that are Wii and DS, they are still selling similar amounts of systems to Nintendo in Japan.

Let us wait until early next week to get the hardware data for MGS. I think that this game will give a serious bump to the PS3, and as I said it's not a traditionally strong market for MGS - god knows what FFXIII will do. PSP was not doing stellar in Japan until recently either, then it went mad and became the biggest selling system. Sometimes things take time.

XB360 has had quite a few of RPGs already, and the ones it is getting from Square will only be timed. What Microsoft wants is FFXIII but it's not going to get it.

Apparently Star Ocean 4 won't be coming to PS3, The Last Remnant like you said is a time 360 Exclusive. So rumuor has it anyway.

Yeah when Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G was released for PSP it sold 670,000 on it's first day and 1.5m in its first week.

Like you said, FFXIII/Versus XIII will help push the system even further.

probably lowers your stress level, but there are plenty of ways to do that.

just finished it, loved it from start to finish. hopefully they are going full steam ahead on the movie now :)

to answer your question regarding bending them girls over, you use the groinal attachment that comes with the game, plug in the sixaxis or ds3 and grind away

Just finished it, that game is a masterpiece. The only word to describe it.

The fight with Liquid was amazing, especially for fans of the series, Kojima outdid himself with this game, absolutely immense.

I completed act 2 of this game at my friend's house and all I can say is WOW:eek::eek: This game truely is outstanding, one of the best, if not THE BEST I have ever played. As for the cutscenes, well the ones I've had so far haven't been very long but if Kojima feels that 90 mins cutscences are needed to complete this compelling game, then so be it. Kojima you truely are a genius. All the 360 fanboys, please play this game first before you make your minds up.

during one of the cutscenes in act 2 I had this uncontrollable urge to want to feck naomi:drool:

Gonna get this game in like 1 week, can't wait. Feckin student budgets holding me and my gaming prowess back.

Also, anyone who worries about the cut scenes shouldn't. They fly through and they don't seem like a chor or anything. Its just immersive and in all honestly its the closest thing I've ever played to being an interactive movie.

I've only done 2 acts too. Can't wait to crack on with story tonight!

Just finished Act 4, any MGS fan will love that Act I promise you.

Going to complete it tonight, can't wait for the ending.

Best game I've ever played.

Figures for the last week seem to be:

MGS 4 (4 days) - 476K
PS3 (7 days) - 77K

Previous MGS titles (first week):

MGS 1 - 317K
MGS 2 - 457K
MGS 3 - 487K

Finished it just now. I agree with the best game i've ever played statements.

Having just completed the game I can safely say this is the best game I have ever played. Everything from start to finish was masterful. The music, the graphics, the enemies, the twists and the cut-scenes, which for me flew by, and left me wanting more. The Frogs, The Gekko, The PMC's, The Militia, The B&B Unit were all phenomenally desgined enemies. The soundtrack is the best I have ever heard in any game. (If anyone has a link where I can download the soundtrack for this game I'd appreciate it) All the boss battles were immense, particularly the final one.

If any game is deserving of a 10, it is this (Weaste and lambs won't agree I'm sure), hell I'd give it an 11. Each Metal Gear Solid has got better as it has gone on, and the 4th is without doubt the best in the series. However you can't help feel a tinge of sadness that we will no longer play as the legendary Solid Snake, easily one of the finest, if not the finest, videogame character in history, and the ending is a fitting one for him, definitely one he deserves.

I can't praise this game enough, anyone who doubted Kojima's ability as a game developer should re-think their stance because Metal Gear Solid 4 will go down as one of the greatest games in history, and deservedly so,
as it is a masterpiece. If you haven't got it, get it, if you haven't got a PS3 to play it on, buy one. Sell it afterwards if you want, but everyone deserves to play this game at least once.

So long Snake!
