Gaming Metal Gear Solid

Haven't played much of it so far, but i've been well impressed with the first hour. Gameplay is same-old that we know and love, but the atmosphere to go with it is unique and intense for the series. They weren't lying when they said you can stick to stealth and slowly breeze past the enemies unnoticed, or crack open the AK-47 and just mow everyone down

How does the swapping from 3rd to 1st person feel?

I didn't even know you could do that  I've been shooting in third person, using the aiming system just like in Uncharted. I'll have a play about later and figure out how you swap though.

Simple and effortless, just press triangle and you can toggle easily between them. Saying that I am yet to use a gun, and I have only killed 1 enemy, slowly snuck up behind him and knifed him, ace! Not got it yet Weaste?

From the first hour or so I have played it is absolutely superb, everything I expected and then some more. I'll refrain from calling it the best game I have ever played untill I have completed it.

The visuals and attention to detail are amazing, along with the sound. And Solius was right about the opening scene and the Gekko's, immense!

Definitely the best start from any of the MGS games. Perhaps the only criticism I have of it so far is there seems to be just a tad too many items lying around on the floor, and I'm playing on Snake Normal so I would have expected less. Still, 10/10 so far.

No, not yet. I'll pick it up next week when the missus goes to her parents with the kids for a few days. No point sitting down with it otherwise, only to be disturbed every five minutes.

Yeah, obviously it is a game which requires your full attention. Movies can be paused though which is a very good feature, particularly on the hour+ ones.

This game just keeps on getting better! Acquired the Solid Eye and the MK.II, both work excellently within the game, it's great sending the MK.II round the battlefield, shame the battery doesn't last too long though.

Also just met Drebin and from the 5 minutes I spent toying around with the upgrade system it is very, very good. Also teaming up with the Militia to fight the PMC's is another excellent point to the game. Spent around 10 minutes just beating the hell out of the PMC's before.

One thing that strikes me aswell is there is no set route to the game, you can go anywhere and everywhere and still advance in the mission.

Not even completed Act 1 yet either.

Weaste, boot your kids out tomorrow and buy the game, you won't regret it:D

Fantastic stuff so far, just met Meryl and am currently escaping the building after Liquids troops raid it.

Please, just go away.

No im curious, I actually want to play this game because of all the positive hype its received and because I enjoyed the previous MGSs. But ive also heard of 90-minute cutscenes - if thats true then thats simply rediculous, might as well watch a movie.

Theres no 90 minute cutscene, I think the longest is about 13 minutes.

I've just bought Civ Rev and pre ordered Battlefield, after i've played them to death ill get this, probably pick it up 2nd hand.

I got upto the cut scene with Liquid last night, his character, as always, is brilliant. The cut scene featuring the Beast Unit was absolutely brilliant. People may complain about the length of the cut scenes, but each one I have seen so far has had me mesmerised.

13 min cutscene?

still buying it, but 13 mins??????

If you want to play a game with no story, a game with a build of of none of the characters and a game without a plot, go and buy Mario.

Seriously, why do people buy MGS games and complain about the length of the cut-scenes? It's is like buying chilli and saying you don't like spices.

All the cut-scenes have been superb so far, and I'm sure there will be a 60/70 minute one during the game, most likely the ending.

I'm suffering now.

Had to be up at 6 for a meeting. Didn't stop playing MGS4 until 2.30.

I'm not so bloody-minded that I absolutely have to keep playing a game usually, but MGS is different. I was compelled to carry on.

I did laugh when Act 2 was about to start - during the loading screen it said "Shouldn't you take a break. It's gone 1 a.m. and you're still playing!" - it's touches like that which make Kojima one of the best game designers ever.

 On loading Act 3 mine told me I should stop as it's past 2am, the time just flew by when I was playing, I didn't want to stop.

rofl class, wonder if it says that stuff if you start playing at 1am and at 2am its loading?

I've played too much, i'm annoyed with myself because i'm probably nearly done already. I only got it midday yesterday and i've just got to Act 5 already. It's seriously that amazing though, you just can't stop playing. I've already played it about 5 more hours than i have GTA since i got it, which was before the day of release. I'm not one for playing a game constantly and finishing it within a day or two, but it looks like this will be the first game for a while.

I appreciate games with good storylines, but they dont have to be told in rediculously long cut scenes. Games like Shenmue, Fahrenheit and Beyond Good and Evil all have excellent storylines but very little cutscenes, the story is told with the flow of the game.

you dont need 13 minute cutscenes to do that

I didnt say I wouldnt be getting it, but just seems like overkill

The cut-scenes never feel like overkill - not so far anyhow.

In fact, what is nice was how interactive things like the mission briefings are. You can take control of the Mk.II and poodle around picking up bonus items whilst Otacon and Snake go through the mission detail.

So far, it's a very well balanced game. It's close to being the best I've ever played, and considering I've played pretty much everything over the course of about 30 years, that's saying something! :)

Cutscenes simply come with the territory. Its part of what made the first games stand out in the first place.

So far I'm disappointed when the cut scenes end! The ones featuring the B&B Unit so far are something else, god help me when I have to fight those things, they looking fecking ridicolous.

This is the greatest game I have ever played, end of.

To tie up the most complicated story in the history of games, you really do. If you're a fan of the series you'll appreciate all the hard work and effort that has gone into this game.

Never played any of those games, so can't comment. The cut-scenes can be skipped, you don't have to watch them.

Just fought Laughing Octopus, what a boss battle! One of the best boss battes I have played in a long, long time. Words can't describe how good this game is.

believe me, the cut scene at the end of ACT 3 is a lot longer than 13 minutes.

i love the long cutscenes, they are brilliant, more the merrier.

anyone else on ACT 4, simply amazing, especially the little bit just before the mission starts, couldnt stop smiling for ages

I've just finished Act 2, the cut-scene at the end with Vamp/Raiden and the Gekko's was absolutely superb, the cut-scenes just seem to get better and better as the game goes on. I agree with vantheman, the more the better!

if you love the metal gear series then just wait till you get to Act 4, it will make you smile alot
