Gaming Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain | Use Spoiler Tags for now

Just got an email saying that this has been shipped. Hope it gets here tomorrow. I'm going to play the shit out of this.
Lucky! I'm going avoid this thread like he plague from tomorrow onwards.

Feels like it's too long since mgs4. This is supposed to the the very best one till date. If it's topping snake eater then that's huge praise

Seems like quite a few people have got their copies already:

Some initial quick impressions after completing the intro 2 main missions and 1 side op:

Intro is absolutely insane, one of the best I've played in gaming I was glued to the screen through the entire thing.

Controls are really nice much improved on GZ stuff like snapping to cover feels really smooth.

D-Horse controls great.

Having not played PW the fulton system is awesome, love watching things fly up into the air.

Troy Baker is great as Ocelot imo having read stuff about his accent I actually like it. Robin Atkin Downes is fantastic. BB hasn't really talked much so far but it's not a problem for me.

Mother Base is fecking amazing, I cannot wait to expand it and build an army. Just standing there watching Heli's fly in to the LZ is amazing.

Probably forgot a ton more that I've done but yeah it really is as good as you imagine it is. Gonna be my goty without a shadow of a doubt.

Cannot wait! Think this is going to draw me away from Los Santos for quite a while...

Mine's just arrived! Simply Games are just too good with their delivery haha. Such a shame I'm leaving for work soon or I'd be bashing the hell out of this tonight.

My ShopTo Order status has been "Processing" since tuesday

Played the first couple of hours and it's very good. First hour is an intro which is decent. Won't say anymore don't want to spoil anything.

Getting into the actual game and the open world and I'm really enjoying it. I think what people will love is the number of ways you can approach the missions and I can see it only getting better as you progress.

I wasn't very hyped for this as I thought Ground Zeroes was pretty rubbish. I only ordered it when I saw the reviews. Think anyone that liked Ground Zeroes will love Phantom Pain because it's so much better.

Have been reading a load of reviews (all spoiler-free) and I really want to play this!

I think the last game I was looking forward to this much was GTA - and I don't want to know how many hours I have put into that!

I've just played Ground Zeros and it seemed rather boring to me. Is this game similar?

Was checking on ShopTo’s twitter feed there to see what the craic is with when MGS will be going out and some fella said he phoned up the general manager and was told they are getting sent out Saturday morning :nono:

That's cutting it waay too thin for me so I’ve panicked & just placed an order with Simply Games, people seem to be getting them next day from those guys

I wouldn’t mind at all just getting it on Tuesday, but with them sending it out Saturday, this bank holiday and how often our crap sorting office has made games (that were dispatched 2-3 days prior to release) come a day or two late for me I couldn’t take the chance, if Tuesday came and it wasn’t there id be straight down to Game/HMV on my bike to buy it

Ill just sell my extra copy to a mate or trade it in for Pro Evo when it comes out.

Edit: And I just got my dispatch text from Simply Games, fecking unreal

It must have took them literally 10-15 mins from me placing my order to dispatch

Thank you Based Simply!

Mines got shipped out today, not too bothered if it comes Tues/Wed, main thing was getting a decent price for it, £34 (with discount code).

Boring in what way?

To answer your question, its exactly the same type of gameplay (tactical, stealth based espionage missions) except on a much, much bigger scale. If you think the gameplay was boring then it's probably not the game for you.

If the lack of a storyline in GZ was boring then this game should have alot more depth to it but lots of stuff would be lost on you if you haven't played the previous games

I don't know. I was a big fan of the series. MGS 1 was brilliant, and I enjoyed 2 and Snake Eater was just the best game on the PS2 for me. Brilliant setting, great story and gameplay.

MGS 4 on the PS3 I didn't manage to complete. The part where the battleship was commandeered by that anime-ish Asian woman was too absurd for me, I thought.

I think my problem with the game started when they switched the camera style. My first run on Snake Eater was done on the old camera before the enhanced version. In Ground Zeros, even the old L2 and R2 inventory system (which I think was genius) is gone. Too many changes from the games I grew up with, I reckon.

But yeah, maybe the lack of proper story on GZ is the problem. Also, I only played an hour of Peace Walker before my PS3 decided to break down on me so I was wondering who Chica and Paz were.

Hmm... I'd say it's worth taking a chance on then, I'd imagine part of the reason Ground Zeroes was released was they knew the change in control scheme and camera style would be jarring at first to fans of the previous games so they'd ease people into it that way so that when V came out it wouldn't me as much of a shock to the system. I played the newer version of snake eater first time round so I suppose its pretty standard for me now.

Sound the same as me I thought Ground Zeroes was rubbish even though I enjoy the series. Snake Eater was probably my fav ps2 game. The reason why GZ felt like crap to me is it was basically a short demo/beta of an open world game in a tiny sandbox. Phantom Pain is miles better.

"V has come to".......and its a bank holiday weekend.

Titty christ, gaming heaven.

I've calculated you've put about 126% more hours into GTA than it has been out.

Ordered mine on Wednesday from Shopto, wasn't expecting it here until Tuesday like @ArmandTamzarian said after looking at their twitter. Left home at 6am this morning to do a few hours overtime, came back home at 10 am and it is here. Chuffed. Did you get yours Armand?

I'm fed up with in store purchasing of games! I will have to wait until Tuesday while it seems all online orders have been getting delivered today.

My copy arrived today :)

Ordered from Simply Games on Wednesday afternoon, and delivered to the Netherlands on Saturday. Not bad at all - and 10 euros cheaper than buying it from the shops here.

Now just have to wait until the kids are in bed before I can play it...

So I just watched the entire 40min E3 gameplay footage, and now I feel like an idiot.

So erm, anyone know where I can possibly pick this up before release :nervous:

Mine came through this morning, pleasantly surprised, first impressions are good.

I got mine today too. Modern gaming sucks though. I put it in, and the first thing it does is update.

Holy shit! Didn't get my ShopTo confirmation email untill late last night but still...
ShopTo you evil Genius 's!

Trouble is the s didn't expect a copy today and now I'm too hungover to play it

Where were all these recommendations for ShopTo & Simply Games when I asked about places known for early delivery in the General Gaming thread?

I hate you all. :(
