Gaming Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain | Use Spoiler Tags for now

I've recovered enough to start playing now, posted my extra copy through my mates door earlier too so he'll be getting a nice surprise, I doubt he'll remember saying he'd call round on Tuesday to pick it up we were that out if it last night.

The steelbook is looking absolutely splendid

Holy shit, The opening sequence is incredible! We got beat 2-0 at home to West Ham and I don't even care. feck you football I don't need you anymore.

For the time being at least

Giving up hope...Royal Mail post until 7pm right? :nervous:

Replaying some Ground Zeroes to get me in the mood and now I've worked myself into a frenzy of anticipation.

Loving this so far. They've fixed the cover system from ground zeros. The controls seem spot on.

Still getting used to the controls but the intro mission was immense, would go as far to say the best intro for a game I've played.

Beaten the intro mission and the main part on the first mission. I really like the non-linearity of the infiltration sections, but I think I'm going to really suck at this game as it took me about 10 tries to do the first mission and I still screwed it up slightly.

Absolutely love this game!

I played last night from 9pm until 3am :nervous: - and only stopped as I forced myself to go to bed! The controls feel as though they have been tightened from GZ - you feel in complete control at all times. It game looks amazing - everything looks solid and real, and it looks so smooth thanks to the 60fps.

The intro is indeed good, as lots of people have been saying, but for me I loved once it was over and the open-world game itself could start! I love the freedom you have - choosing your loadout for a mission, where to be dropped, and then scouting out the objective and being able to take it on exactly how you want. And this is still very early on in the game where your loadout options are limited. Can't imagine how much flexibility you are going to have once you have researched more weapons and technology!

What is also very cool is that you can access your iDroid and communicate with Mother Base at any time - so you can manage MB on the fly, but also request ammo, or different weapons etc at any time after you have deployed. This means that if you plan on one approach, but once you are out in the field you want to adapt, you can - you are never locked into any one way of doing things and you have all your tools open to you.

Lastly, Fultoning people is fantastic!!

Fultoning a bear is hilarious, the look of bewilderment on its face before it shoots off is brilliant

Thought I'd post some spoiler free impressions:

- Best opening to a MGS game since Snake Eater, which then surpasses it when you properly get ahold of the reigns.
- The new approach to cutscenes and integration of conversations is much better, particularly for those that don't necessarily want to sit through 20-30 minutes of cutscenes. So far the cutscenes have been on point and snappy, if you want to delve further into the story and character motivations you can use the cassette tapes, which also can be played wherever you are.
- Mother Base stuff is great, now unlocking new sections and got my first new buddy aside from the horse you start with.
- Fulton everything, development of things is fast and easy once you figure out how it works.
- I love the mission list and ops structure, this is now essentially a full sized MGS game that uses the same setup as Portable Ops and Peace Walker.
- The soundtrack is fantastic and its used really well, obviously you have the big pieces for cutscenes but you also get tense music kick in when you approach and objective that's like "oh shit, here we go". Then you also have the old 80's music you find playing on the radio's that you can collect. What other game can you stealth sneak an entire outpost listening to Take on Me and Maneater?
- Graphics are better than I expected, how this is still a cross gen game I'll never know. It looks very impressive in the daytime and the frame rate hardly skips a beat. Fox Engine doing work.

I didn't think a game would match The Witcher 3 this year but this seriously might top it yet.

So question for anyone who has completed the prologue...

What happens to the face we created? Is it for online play?

The quality of the faces you can create is unreal - really showcases the Fox engine. They look pretty good in the pic above, but seeing it on screen is something else.

I think its for MGO aye, also some sort of avatar. I guess we will find out when the servers go online.

I cannot be the only one who has no idea what to do once I gain control of my horse, can I?

What do I do? :(

Cheers for that.

Really looking forward to developing some more weapons, and also upgrading the Fulton - want to start sending back everything I find!

1) I captured the nearest outpost by taking out the two stationary soldiers.
2) I infiltrated the village Ocelot spoke about to find details on where Miller is in the enemy stronghold.
3) Then ride off to the target area to continue the mission. Won't tell you too much but focus on doing the first two things at the moment.

Yep - exactly the same here!

Quite a steep learning curve once you get a bit more into the main missions, I can almost gurantee there will be some comments on here about a certain mission I've just done.

Would I be fine jumping into this game having never played an MGS game before? I've always admired them from afar but never really had the opportunity to get and play one, this looks immense though on first looks.

I'd say a fair few of us are doing the same as you this evening. :D

This was one I was going to wait for the reviews for before buying. The reviews are all raving and you guys seem mega impressed. So I guess I'm going to pick it up on Tuesday!

Yes I don't see why not

Has anyone else managed to transfer their Ground Zeros save over yet? When I try, I can't connect to the server.

I'd imagine they're not turning the servers on until Tuesday, which will result in a patch enabling it.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case.

This game is great. I just set 'final countdown' as the song on my helicopter. It's lucky I played Peacewalker though. Gives me some idea, of what to do with the motherbase.

Those who have played, is it worth getting for PS3?

Or will I wait 2 or 3 months for PS4?

As a side note, my mate in school when I was 11 told me to buy Metal Gear....Said it was the best game ever......He was right..........

But how disappointed I was when I realised it wasn't a racing game........

Those who have played it, I'm giving you the fingers right now :p

Ordered this from Amazon and hoping I get it tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest. Pre-ordered Arkham Knight and that showed up a week and half after release with a sticker saying "Israel" on the package, for feck sake.

Saw this on Reddit, Quiet actually exists...

She got a pretty great singing voice as well

I'm tempted to get this on PC, but I'm not too sure about my specs. According to some sites my GTX670 and i5 3570k will be enough to handle this game with a mix of high and ultra but I'm not too certain about that. Probably more likely just high.

The fox engine is really good at optimization seemingly, you will probably be alright.

I hope so. Some people have managed to run Ground Zeroes nearly maxed out with my specs so you never know...
