Gaming Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain | Use Spoiler Tags for now

Played this too much. 20 hours played...missions 1-5 done. Game needs more cutscenes

Just played the bit where
you get chased about by Shalalahahalahala, get in your helicopter and have to shoot at him with the mini gun as he jumps up at you. When it fell down and the dust rose up my jaw dropped a little bit more than it had already been seconds before when I thought "Holy shit that thing is fecking huge!"

This game rocks.

(spoiler) that whole mission and climax was fecking intense. The noise the new Metal Gear makes is terrifying  (/spoiler)

@DatIrishFella You should get that fixed.

Anyone know how to lie down on your back and point a gun? I know its possible in Snake Eater, and I've seen review videos of Phantom Pain where Boss does it, but I've actually forgotten how to do it.

I need to change the way I play this game, I am rushing it through and running gung ho into bases and it's pointless because I have to kill everyone and I cannot recruit any people. I am restarting third mission for that reason and will try to be more stealthy.

Great game, it only really gets going after 2nd mission when you have all options open etc. I love how you can approach everything in a hundred different ways and no two walkthroughs will be the same.

I try to do the missions stealthy, and then not worry so much about it on the side ops. Keeps it varied that way too - and just having fun trying other ways!

First off, you're all cnuts for having this!

Secondly, can't get a PS4 till end of November so, will I just buy this for PS3?
No just wait. It's like 20 fps on PS3 while it's a smooth 60fps on PS4. It's a huge difference. Plus it looks more blurry on PS3 with less details in the distance and one of the best things about the game is how good it looks when you are travelling through the desert.

Would be stupid to buy it on PS3 when you are getting a ps4 soon

I'm going to have a few questions because I am sort of a noob at this.

How do I get more Fulton things and develop my R&D and Support Unit? Just through dispatching them from the field? And how can I get a buddy?

I assume vehicles will be possible to develop/buy later on. I am only at mission 3 still, decided to do stealth - already killed 3 people and Fultoned 6 more. What a fun game! Complicated though, still not sure about 80% of things there, like character progress etc. Please explain this to me.

Stealth is more fun once you grasp it, as I have found. Hiding in the carton at night waiting for the guard to approach, nothing beats that.

To get more Fulton things when you run out, you press the touchpad to open the idroid and then you click request support and request supplies.

Yeah you improve the R&D + support unit by extracting people with the Fulton. You can buy a development for your binocular which shows how good enemy soldiers are at various tasks (Like A,B or C for R&D for example) so you can choose which ones you want to extract. Plus you can improve the mother base facilities with the resources you gather (fuel and metals etc) in the idroid which allows you to add more people to the different units

Only buddy I have is the horse

Thanks mate! Going to take me a while to properly understand all mechanics but it's a good start.

I imagine there will be many more side missions after I complete some of the ones currently available (I have 2 completed and 3 pending).

I tend to manage to stay stealthed until I am caught by one nosy guard right near the objective and it all goes to shit. An hour and a half later there are about 200 bodies strewn across the wasteland and Snake looks like he's been sweating cranberry juice.

Also doesn't it piss off anyone else no end that you can't take a quick helicopter trip from one point to another without having to go back to the 'ACC' and redeploy every fecking time? They need to fix that because you can do it at the mother base, why the hell not in the field?

Yeah I think the side missions come up after you complete the previous ones and go back to mother base. I'm not sure though.

I think I've done like 6 of them and have 2 more to do right now. I think some of the side missions only come up when you reach the required mission to make the side op relevant

Need a bit of help understanding something guys. It says that I have got 2 side missions left on my list except only one mission doesn't have a tick next to it. However, one of the missions (prisoner excavation 2) is still in white despite having a tick next to it as opposed to the others which are greyed out. I remember doing this mission and doing really well at it too. So I'm wondering what is going on here??

Yeah I have that too I think some of them just become available again for replayability purposes or something.

Oh ok, thanks for that. Would rather not play that one again so soon because it was quite a hard one.

Yep. Very irritating. That and the credits at the start of every mission spoiling who you are going to come up against are two baffling design decisions.

Is that Ismael guy from the prologue a clone of big boss? He sounded like he was voiced by Kiefer Sutherland and he said big boss is talking to himself when he asked who he was. Plus it explains why his face was hidden

Didn't realise you can ride containers back to mother base if you fulton them.

I did mission 8 last night - the one with the tank convoy.

Just as I was riding to the tanks, I got a weather warning...so I waited until the sandstorm hit, then ran in and Fultoned the two tanks back to MB! Would have been ultra fast, but then I went back and searched through all the houses for metals etc.

I'm really looking forward to replaying some missions and side-ops once more kit is unlocked so you can play them with different strategies. Want that silenced tranq sniper!!

Saw this on neo-gaf:

The poster said he died trying to fulton him out...and now the guy's gone

Not seen anyone with abilities like that so far!

Thinking about picking this up today. Read through the first few pages, but stopped just so I don't give in to temptation and read the spoilers.

My question, though, is there a group to help each other out with the F.O.B. stuff? I saw it mentioned earlier but haven't trawled through enough to see if it was decided.

I'm on PS4

Just downloaded this and keeps saying 'failed to log in to server'. Do I need it to play?

I really love this game but it feels like a spin-off, rather then a 'full' Metal Gear game - I'm missing the codec conversations and cut scenes.

Saw a few people complain about that as well. Personnly I was always put off by the cut scenes and codec stuff(although I'm not really a Metal Gear fan)
Yep - the iDroid is far quicker and less sluggish in offline mode.
Nice to know. Can't see myself playing the online stuff any ways.
