They get put on MB, but your MB doesn't get invaded (as far as I know) - only your FOBs can. So I don't think there is any need to keep them...but not certain. Will have a look this eve in the guide.

On the subject of FOBs, you get the first one free, if you want more then they are locked behind a paywall. Also, if they are invaded while you are on a mission, then you will be prompted to leave the mission to return and defend your FOB. You can choose to disconnect from online when you play the SP - in which case you won't get invaded.

Not sure I would want to quit a mission mid-way through to have to go back and defend my base - think that is something I will disconnect and skip.

I've actually unplugged my ethernet cable to my PS4 while i'm playing anyway, i've noticed the loading times had gone significantly longer while connected online, once disconnected loading times were back to normal.

Yep - iDroid takes a lot longer to load when online.

I think you can choose to disconnect from one of the menu's - not sure though.

I managed to get Quiet yesterday, just a few things i would point out:

So you automatically come across her while walking through some ruins, i was actually on my way to a mission when the cutscene automatically triggered. Now there's a very easy way of capturing here and also getting a S rank, it is a bit cheap but here it goes, once you tag her with your binoculars go into the support and request a ammo drop and place it where she is on the map, the ammo box drops directly on her head and she loses half her health! You only have to do it twice and you beat her without even having to pull the trigger once!

 think I might try that method when I get there - hopefully this eve!

That is genius.

Not sure mate you could try going there and see what happens the ruins are at a place called
Aabe Shifap Ruins, it's to the north west of the map.

i'll check it out later then I've only done 1st 3 missions so will be a good test to see

My goal this evening is to get Quiet and DDog...

I completed mission 7 last night, so think I need to do a couple more before DDog grows. But first I am going to head to the ruins to get Quiet. During the last mission I did, they said she was there, so should be able to trigger it.

 that's brilliant

Cant spoiler tag on my phone so stop reading if you haven't done mission 10.

How the feck do you stop the prisoners from being executed? Its the Mujahadeen rescue. As soon as you reach the base they get killled?

I fired it up yesterday (after finishing Until Dawn) and played the intro and a bit of the first chapter. Blew me away. The intro is incredible but even more impressive was the moment you get control over your character in the open world. It's similar to the seamless transition of the opening sequence to gameplay back in MGS 4, only on a much larger scale.

My only problem is I've got Peacewalker (PS3 HD version) and GZ lying around untouched and now there's this nagging feeling I should play them first to get the most out of Phantom Pain. I'm sure some of you here played all of them, would I miss a lot if I just jump straight into MGS 5?

Played it today and yep it's pretty amazing.

I've spent most of my time in the box getting my soldiers to salute me.

I only played ground zeroes before this, it only takes an hour or two to complete so you may as well play it first. The controls are a lot better in 5 so it might be annoying going back to GZ later

What are FOBs?

How do you refine materials? Also are my mother base crew digging up the materials themselves so I don't need to search for them too much?

Got a couple of missions where it's recommended I have missiles. How do I get missiles if I don't have the required levels to buy the launcher?

Getting into this. Yet to rescue the man, I guess side missions will appear later? I have managed to get past the first village but I am running out of pistol ammo, I can hardly go quietly now and I have no idea where to find more so I will probably go gung ho into the second village. Not the best idea but I can do this. Where do I actually buy stuff? I can't yet, can I?

You can request air drops for supplies (ammo, silencers, guns etc.). Go into your iDroid to do it. You also buy new weapons in the idroid

And yeah the side ops come after you find the man

I've touched down in Africa. Tip for everyone. When the Legendary Gunsmith side missions pop up do them. He's brilliant. I can't believe how good the gun customisation is. You can swap parts over like silencers & scopes so I now have a pink silenced tranq sniper rifle.

Went all John Rambo on there asses instead of stealthing which took the firing squads attention away from the prisoners on to me. Rescued all five :)

A good guide to CQC:

Holy moly that disarm! I had no idea. Will be using that.

Can't fricking wait to customise my weapons.

Also, when you buy upgrades for your helicopter dont forget to apply the upgrades (like dispatch time) in the heli section. I assumed they wefe added automatically.

Just got him, extracting him was a pain in the arse though, due to the company he keeps. Though having Quiet with me helped a lot.

Just played the first chapter last night. What carnage! I've never experienced a start of a game like it, loved every second. Snake was having one hell of a bad day, imagine waking up after a coma to that .

I can already tell that this game is going to consume me.

This game is fecking awesome my fecking god. This weekend it's getting absolutely caned.

I've put a lot of hours into this game and it's big. Easily my GOTY so far. Only Fallout could possible top this.

One thing I found out today, is that if you're playing on PC, you can use any music on your hard drive for your helicopter speakers. I wish that feature was on console.

Pointless, any man not using Ride of the Valkyries as their helicopter music needs to have a word with themselves.

I've being using the final countdown. I might change it up soon though. I just want more options!

I finished that mission last night...well, by 'last night' I mean at 2:30 this morning :nervous:

I actually played it through twice. The first time, I rode DHorse ahead of where the jeep would be going, had him drop his load on the road, then waited for the jeep to drive over and skid out of control. I then threw smoke grenades all around the jeep and shot the guards as they got out. A few rockets to the armoured vehicle, and then I drove the jeep away with the prisoner in it. I then parked it up by the left side of the big palace where the hostages were being kept, but as I approached I got messages saying one had been killed, then soon after another, and then finally the last one.

So I restarted the mission and this time rode DHorse immediately up to the left side of the palace. I then made my way though the palace looking for the prisoners and taking out guards as I went. The other guards then drove the jeep away - but I let them go. Once they were gone, I finished clearing the palace - this time I got spotted so ended up going loud and shooting everyone! I Fulton-ed each prisoner from the roof, then found intelligence that showed where the prisoner had been taken.

Then went there and started taking guards out silently, but got discovered by the penultimate guard (who I hadn't spotted!) I then shot him and the couple of extra guards who had come running. Once they were all gone, I swept the fort for goodies, then drove the 3 prisoners away in a jeep and got them on the chopper.

The key reason for making sure you get all of the prisoners, is that one of them is the Transportation Specialist, who enables you to develop the Fulton so you can extract vehicles - so well worth making sure you get them all. You can always replay it even if you have completed it to make sure you rescue everyone.

It's a really good mission - would be much easier with DDog I think, but think I still have to do another couple of missions before he unlocks (I haven't done #8 or #9 yet). My only criticism is that I had tried to do one of the side-op missions yesterday, where you had to break into that same fort and rescue a prisoner - so it feels like you were repeating yourself at the end.

I dunno, think id have a bit of buffalo Springfield

Some of the ones I've seen on YouTube have been great

It's my birthday today so can't wait to see what happens at motherbase

Feck setting chopper music, get the 80's tunes pumping and be a badass in style, you'd be surprised how well it fits the action on screen sometimes

I probably should have edited that down a bit more, though it was quite late when I did it. I also forgot to record a bit where I was hunting a big ass bear to the tune of Maneater :D

Some rave reviews here, people saying it's even better than Witcher 3 is a bold claim when Witcher has been by far the best game of this current generation. I'm not seeing it yet (although it's been very good) due to being only 2 hours into the game but definitely going to spend some more time over the weekend and next week.
