Gaming Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain | Use Spoiler Tags for now

Any troublemakers or unsanitary dirt-rats with any abilities below a B I just dismiss them. Big Boss runs a tight ship here, though I've been thinking maybe they need a bit of rough in there to harden them up that my regular beat-downs aren't giving them, when I overhear them talking about D-Dog it's...worrying.

You don't know the awesomness of puppy paw pads?

Any way for me to fix/get a new suppressor if it breaks during a mission?

Not sure whether to get this on PC or PS4. Have you guys been impressed with the port of those who have it on pc?

Found DD on mission 3 just finished mission 8 and hes still a pup. What's going on? And should I have found Quite by now?

I've spent about 5 hours on it so far, it's everything I thought it would be, although I hope I get more story bits soon, snake has hardly had a word to say

One thing I don't like is how at the beginning of each mission it tells you what characters you are going to see

It runs really well on PC and loads quickly. Everything maxed out on my GTX670 and i5 3570k. The recommended specs are wrong, it seems that the game is a very good port.

Edit; I'm running it at 1080p.

Thanks. That's good news I saw the requirements and was surprised at how high the cpu requirements were, it lists my i5-4460 as minimal but I think that's not too far off yours and I have a GTX960 backing it up so should run decently in that case. £33 on cdkeys so saves close to a tenner to buying the console version.

You'll definitely be fine! I'm quite impressed by how good the PC port is, considering Kojima Productions being a console developer for so long. It doesn't look entirely flashy, but the shadows, AO and draw distance are quite impressive.

I should also say that my gear is still running at stock, nothing is overclocked. What's also weird is that the game automatically set most of my settings to Medium, which was way off!

Another odd one, have a swarm of flies constantly around my head, is there any way of getting rid of them?

I love this game!! Makes me pine for my single days, so I wouldn't have to turn it off .

On another note, I have a spare code for Ground Zeroes on the PS4 - was going to eBay it but I can't be arsed if anybody wants it for nowt.

Could I possibly have the Ground Zeroes code mate? Would love to give it a go and see how I like it before getting MGSV.

I have enjoyed what I have played of this so far, attaching a sheep to a weather balloon has never been so much fun.

Kinda of glad that I can't take this online. That FOB mode sounds awful. I don't want other players attacking my base.

I won't spoil it, but I played an awesome mission today in this. Felt like Rambo at the end it.

I am out in the open world trying to get to the grips with controls, takes time to memorize everything. Running around pointlessly, I am supposed to visit that first village to gather some intel but not hurrying it, would rather learn the map first. Graphics are great.

I wonder how difficult is it going to be to switch between this and Witcher 3, which I am yet to finish, every few days. Witcher is so simple controls wise.

It's another 80-hour experience, isn't it?

Was V any good (or whatever the free Xbox Gold download was)? I'll play it if it was but won't bother if it's shit.

You mean Ground Zeroes? Yes, it is very good. It's a prologue to this game.
Oh I thought it was MGS 5. Okay, I was just wondering cause usually the free games on Xbox Gold are a bit poop, but sometimes a decent one comes along. I'll give it a play!

It's a bit early for MGS 5 to be free. It only come out this week! Ground Zeroes is good, but very short. Do all the side missions as well, and you'll have some fun with it.

Done 5 missions...thought Metal Gear was meant to be full of story based missions but it doesn't feel like that so far

I have 1 million money but not sure what to buy, so much stuff

I just did one of the best missions ever. Its a certain side op that turns into a main mission and holy feck it was intense. By the end my hands were drenched. Person it involved initials are "HE". If you've done it you'll understand

Rocket Launcher spree one?

Just sacked them all.

Had a couple of people fighting too - got rid of them. The only issue with this is that it can affect the level of your different teams - which is obvious, but also annoying. The ones who had the trouble maker characteristic were most pretty average - so no big issue. One was very high, so I kept him them moved someone with a Diplomat tendency to work in the same division as him. Will see if that works...

I will say, that type of management is not what I find most enjoyable - am ok with assigning people to different teams and levelling up your divisions etc...but could do without them fighting. Feels like a cheap 'gameplay' mechanic thrown in just to complicate matters.

Question for those who have developed their binoculars - mine are currently level 2 - so I get to see the basic stats of enemies. What benefits do you get with more upgrades - can you see who will be a troublemaker, for example?

Couple of things I read that might be useful - haven't tried them myself yet:

Go to the MB tab on the Idroid and select Resources, navigate to the guns and select the amount you want to sell. You can also sell vehicles, metal, fuel etc.

and

You can go into options after completing a side op or mission and select "go back to ACC", you'll return to your chopper menu for free. You lose no GMP by having to call in your chopper and you don't have to wait for it to arrive.

I knew you could sell resources - but didn't know you could sell the guns too. Apparently they cost 5k to Fulton back, but sell for twice that amount. I think they are also used to arm / defend MB, so not sure if that means you should keep some of them.

I really, really wish the game saved when you exited. I completed a mission and side op, it auto saved, then I went back to MB and showered and updated my staff, set weapons to be researched, but then had to quit...which means when I load back up I will be back on MB pre-shower. Annoying.

How do you collect these guns then? Just by knocking down enemies?

It's the mortars and machine guns that you fulton back. not the soldiers individual weapons.

At what point can you actually enter the different sections of mother base? I saw a clip ages ago where there were doors you could go into but theres no button prompt when I try any of the doors on my mother base

as much as I love this game, I am rubbish at it and its frustrating, I try to be stealth and mark all the enemies then I miss one and he spots me and it starts a shoot out

Do these weapons have any other use other than just selling them? I've kept the ones i've collected just in case will need them in the future.

I've got a 4590 (non K) and a GTX 970. Game's running nicely for me. Windows 10 as well.

Just got through my first 3 hours. WHAT AN OPENING. Best opening since Last Of Us. I'd even say it's better, and LOU had the best opening scenes ever. The build up and the tension! The way all the scenes played out. Brilliant. Shame I've got to pick up the wife from work now. :(

They get put on MB, but your MB doesn't get invaded (as far as I know) - only your FOBs can. So I don't think there is any need to keep them...but not certain. Will have a look this eve in the guide.

On the subject of FOBs, you get the first one free, if you want more then they are locked behind a paywall. Also, if they are invaded while you are on a mission, then you will be prompted to leave the mission to return and defend your FOB. You can choose to disconnect from online when you play the SP - in which case you won't get invaded.

Not sure I would want to quit a mission mid-way through to have to go back and defend my base - think that is something I will disconnect and skip.
