Totally agree with getting Wilshere. He's very underrated and he'll be free (or cheap if we decide to act early). He's a quality player and he plays in just the right position that we need.

I'm not quite as keen on Ozil. For me, he's just not the kind of player who will fit into the kind of team we are trying to build.

I don’t think Jack will leave Arsenal, and as soon as he signs a new contract with them he’ll be back on the treatment table with his luck.

Sign, sign, sign.

He has significant talent. I wouldn’t say that about any of our front 4 (possibly Martial).

For 70 mins in that match he was basically unplayable. One thing with him though is the team has to perform to a good level to get his level out of him. He's not like Hazard who due to his dynamism can play well even if the midfielders behind him are having a mare. However every team that takes itself seriously as an offensive team should never be in the position where the 10 has to cary the side, let him focus on attacking and the opposition will face problems.

Can someone please explain to me why we are not going for Alexis instead? Perfect fit for us! Pace, creativity, flair.

Ozil will be a complete waste.

not so sure about that. You should try and watch him live and you will see what the fuss is all about- he glides on that pitch. As Keown said recently of someone- if he played on the snow, he'd leave no footprints lol. But seriously, Ozil would improve any team, and people are going about him because he played very well for Jose at Madrid. As for Alex, I reckon he'd easily go to the noisy neighbours because like Ozil and Jose, there is a connection between him and Guardiola at Barca. I was fortunate to be at the Benarbeu to watch Alex destroy Madrid - Barca ran out 3-1 victors, and then title-winning victory at the Nou Camp when Madrib beat Barca 2-1, the season they scored the most goals ever in La liga, I think. To be fair, they both cracking players and if there was a way of getting them both, it would be absolutely stupid not to

Alexis occupies pretty same role & position as Martial, Rashford. We would still need width and creative but in this case, we're hindering the young players for those who are concerned about our young talent.

Alexis already transited from being a support player to a forward. Just compare him to Hazard you can see the difference. Both being less burdened with defensive duty, yet Hazard being more involved despite Arsenal had the upper hand in possession stat. Hazard looks like doing both Ozil & Alexis job and in a game Ozil was not found slacking. It's not just form. Alexis has been like this for a while now. He's not as explosive and being heavily involved in deeper position as he used to be.

Ozil vs Chelsea

Pass Accuracy % - 87.5

Made several good off-the-ball runs towards goal, too. Didn't end up getting the ball, but potentially dangerous situations nevertheless.

He did. I remember him sprinting past Kante, which was a bit of a shock. That said, Ozil is pretty quick when he gets going.

Exactly, I dont get this myth that Ozil is slow. I still remember that first counter attack against us where Ozil ran from their box to our box on a rapid counter attack. He definitely is not slow, and is pretty brilliant at his speed of thought with regard to a pass.

I guess he should do it (running off the ball) a lot more than he does, although his job first and foremost should be to create, which he does fantastically.

Precisely, and I really do think our attacking malaise lies in our lack of creativity. A lot of people might blame our poor finishing, but I think our overall finishing is a vast improvement over last season. I think Ozil might be one of the final pieces of our attacking puzzle. At least for the next few years....

Should put 15m on the table this month for this guy. He can play in the Champions league and with him we stand a better chance to go further. Get him intergrated and by the start of next season we can go from the off. Something like this

Martial Lukaku New RW
Ozil
Pogba Matic

What the hell are Arsenal gonna do with 15 million lol. Might as well keep him.

You think? If I was an Arsenal Director I would be thinking... Holy cr*p we are losing Sanchez and Ozil for free in a few months. To replace them with quality on a par you are talking minimum 100m. On top of that even with those two they are still well short in defence and cdm area. There's probably another 70-80m in this market. You think Arsenal with their history of penny pinching and screwing the fans over are going to agree to that.

They just signed a greek kid no one has heard of. I think if clubs go in for Ozil and Sanchez now they are gone

And how much is CL qualification worth...

Arsenal are a sinking ship, and Ozil is looking to get his final contract. It'd be funny if we got someone like Fekir and he is forced to stay at Arsenal.

Given that Mou clearly wants to bin Mkhi, getting Ozil in as an immediate free replacement, proven in the league and a better player anyway would be a superb bit of business.

I don’t think Ozil is even close to being the final piece of our attacking puzzle, I wish it was that simple.
Agree. Ozil as free agent would be a good low cost addition, but not solving all our problem. We need to improve our width in attack be it adding a winger or improve the full backs. Then you need Lukaku, Martial, Rashford to improve further. Even Pogba needs to mature now that he's one of the captains of the team (replacing full back mean Valencia may not be first choice anymore. Smalling needs to fight to start every other CBs fit. He's not clear cut better than the other)

Think Bates could be right about us trying to sign Ozil from Arsenal this month. Liverpool and Arsenal will then probably throw some huge bids at Monaco for Lemar.

My transfer wish. Ozil is great upgrade for Mata. Just bring him asap, Jose!
With him, Jesse, and Martial/Rashford move around as they like behind Lukaku, also add with Pogba, our attack will be great and dangerous. Matic can focus with protecting our back four. And to help our full back defending, jesse also can work his ass off.

My main issue with signing Ozil is it commits us to 4-2-3-1, which I think plays less to the strengths of our squad than 4-3-3.

Ozil is a great #10 but I’m not convinced we should be playing a #10.

We can always play 4-2-2-2 with Pogba & Ozil as CAM, Martial & Lukaku as strikers and Herrera & Matic as CM.

Ozil is the perfect January signing. Not world class based on his time at Arsenal but much, much better than anything we have. With Lukaku in the box and Ozil's crosses, we should comfortably make top 4 at the very least (I'm looking at worst case). Ozil may not be a big game player but we are not in a place to discriminate at that level just yet.

Basically, sign him now.

Arsenal have been playing him in a front 3 to great effect for weeks. It doesn't commit us to anything. Lingard and Martial have also been given free licence to roam of late whatever the setup.

On a free I suppose I wouldn't have too many problems with this signing, he'd be a handy upgrade over Mkhitaryan, although you get the most out of Ozil as a #10 and I don't think we should be playing a #10 any more. The closest thing we should have to that is Pogba in a midfield three. I wouldn't have Ozil at the club to player as a winger unless we couldn't get anyone else. If we are going to persist with Pogba in a midfield two then sure, sign Ozil. But I think that a switch to a midfield three is still a better move for the club than any #10 we could sign.

He's played right side of a front 3 many times for Arsenal.

Any manager who builds a squad that can only play one formation is not doing his job properly. United badly needs a creative number 10 and Ozil is one of the best in the EPL and will be free in the summer. This would be a fantastic signing for United.

There is a massive over emphasis on formations on this forum. Like the Lingard thread where the big difference is him playing centrally instead of wide apparently. Yet, he was in a wide role when he scored against both Everton and Derby.
