He’s clearly not injured and is obviously at Carrington right now having a medical and doing weird handshakes with Lingard and Pogba.

Lukaku and Martial have similar speed as the other fastest players you've listed there. Lingard and Mkhi are similar speed as the slower players that you've listed. Mata is the only one who is actually slow.

There are two things which give teams fast attacking play. The first is the speed of the players. We have that. The other is the speed of moving the ball, which is where we are utterly atrocious. That's what we need to improve. In theory Ozil should help with that.
Yeah, speed of mind is what we're lacking, not speed of feet.

After that, he has to pass handshakes test exams first before he can sign official contract

Probably 2-3 years too early to join a Turkish side, so reckon its very likely he is coming!
On a Free its a No brainer with todays inflated market! Where can I Bet on it?

I can only imagine Lukaku missing it.

He would miss it but will score plenty of goals coming from Ozil's chance created United is the 7th club with a most chance created and scored most goals baring City and Liverpool. With Ozil contribution to United's attacking would create more chances and score more goals and he will get plenty of assists.

Anyone who thinks a slow Mesut Ozil is the answer to our attacking problems needs their head checked.

Look at the pace City and Liverpool have compared to us. That’s what we’re lacking. That penetration and speed in the attack. City have it with Sterling/Jesus/Sane/Aguero/KDB and Liverpool have it with Mane/Salah/Coutinho/Firmino.

Our attackers are Lukaku/Martial/Lingard/Rashford/Mkhi/Mata.... none of those with the exception of Rashford are lightening fast like those rival attacking players. Not even close.

We had a similar player in Di Maria and we fecked it up by playing Ashley Young over him. Who could blame him for packing his bags?

That’s why I want to see Perisic and Dybala come in. And a right sided player like Mahrez, Willian or Zaha. We need that dynamite speed. That unorthodox winger.
Lukaku, Rashford and Martial are just AS fast AS any trio in pretty much any club. Kdb? He’s slower than Pogba and certainly slower than Lingard and Miki. Aguero is quick but far from fast. The same goes for Coutinho. Both have good acceleration and are agile, but both lack top speed. Mahrez fast, dynamite fast? Right. He’s certainly no faster than Lingard. You actually think he would outrun Martial?

You must be just about the most negative poster we have around, but more than that, you are factually wrong.

Our squad is actually quite fast. What we lack is players that are good in tight spaces. We lack nimble players. Pogba is probably our only really creative player as even Mata prefers to be in and around the box to finish chances instead of creating. Ozil for Mikhi would be nice.

That’s rubbish. There’s no way Lukaku, Rashford and Martial are faster than Sane, Sterling, Mane, Salah and Aguero. Not with the ball.

That’s obvious to see.

Lokaku and fast. fecking lol. In today’s game, he is pretty much the definition of an immobile striker.

But in all seriousness, if he hadn’t joined the time of bottlers, he would have gone done as one of the footballers of the decade. He would be a great fit for United and I really wish you go for him.

Sterling is very quick as is Sane, but as Walker said, he would beat them in a race. Rash has given him trouble for top speed a few times. Martial ran past sterling a couple of times. Rashford and Martial both figure in the top speed records recorded in the PL. Aguero is easily beaten for top speed. Salah is probably the fastest attacker in the league, I’ll give you that one. Lukaku would simply destroy Aguero in a foo race. In five yards, however, he is cumbersome. The players you mentioned in you last post above are all very quick in tight corners. We need more of those. In terms of top speed, we are more than a match.

it's funny to see so many people moan in the utd forum about the lack of effort and leadership from our players and then you come into the transfer forum and have people getting wet about signing a player who is relentlessly criticized on the caf and in media for a lack of effort and leadership. Good old RedCafe.

Lack of effort or leadership is not the concern of the team this season, what is the concern of the team is two things. Creativity and Runners.

Pogba is the only player with the required creativity; a top team needs 2-3 sources of creativity. We have one runner in the team and he isnt even supposed to be a runner (Lukaku). Martial, Rashford (on the wing), Mata, all want the ball to feet.

The shortcomings in the team are all inherited shortcomings, we lacked creativity and runners under LVG because we were obsessed with holding the ball and passing the ball into the net. We do not have the correct profile of players for a top team.

This team requires one more creative player, and two more wide players that run the pitch dry (one winger and one fullback).

Spot on. One of the best posts I've read on here for a long time.

I'd add Lingard to the list of "runners". His off the ball movement is the main reason he gets in the team. It's just a shame his quality lets him down.

I think Mata has very good movement too. He just doesn't have the athleticism to go with it.

Ozil would make a huge difference to this team.

Mata and Lingard are squad players; Both have shortcomings in their game that prevent them from being starters for a top team. Mata is not physical enough. Lingard is not consistent enough.

We have seen many times when Mata is in the middle; that he gets pushed of the ball very easily which leaves us exposed. He also contributes to the lack of runners in the team because of his lack of physical presence; he needs players around him to pass and move with him.

Lingard is a good runner, but being a good runner is pointless if you don't have end product. Maybe Lingard can become that player, because he is doing well this season. But it could just be that he's on a purple patch.

Lingard has been good - but that's also stood out because the rest around him have been different shades of absolute sh*te. We shouldn't sell Jesse of course. He's a great player to have in the squad. Always up for it and never gives anything less than his absolute all. His off-the-ball movement is - as pointed out before - excellent (best in the team?) but he's too inconsistent and frankly, not the absolute top quality that is needed to be first-choice as a #10 for a team chasing the top honours. Also, his best position is clearly as a #10, but he doesn't create enough. He has the odd through-ball on the counter and has scored a few in his recent patch, but he's not a creator like Ozil.

Ozil - people fault him a lot but I can't see how being languid is a crime! The whole of Arsenal bottles it in every big game, but somehow he's the only one that draws fire. Against us this season, he was pretty much their best player (and perhaps the best on the pitch overall). Would love to have him here. One of the best creators in that position, familiar with Jose and his demands, familiar with the PL (and proven) and on a free! If we can get him, frankly, I'd even pay 20 Mn in Jan. Easiest decision to make (though Arsenal would never sell of course).

Eeeerrrr... he's got the best end product in the squad, and amongst the best in the league. 6 goals and 4 assists in only 837 minutes. All while maintaining a passing accuracy of 87.1%.

I'm 50/50 on this.

On the one hand he carries the ball well and uses it brilliantly. When he's on form he's normally got the odd goal in him. We desperately lack players like him.

On the other hand he goes missing too much. Sometimes for games on end. And we have too much of that.

I agree with you. The players in the current squad with the best movement lack either the technical quality or athleticism to make best use of it.

I don't see Lingard overcoming his technical deficiencies. He is a very useful squad player but mainly because of the lack of "runners" in the current squad.

Still the best transfer we could do right now for around 20 million or a free in the summer.
His relationship with Mourinho is key. Any other manager and I'd say no to the louche alien.

Why's this gone so quiet?

It's such an obvious transfer, at a fortunate price, just fecking do it.

If we don't sign him now, but then start trying to get him in the Summer for free only to fail after wasting loads of time on it, I'll be done with Woodward.

Can Woodward resist a massive Adidas campaign that will come with the Ozil signing? He might be someone we wanted in January but can't get until the summer.

Who was Ozil linked with us and Barca? If Coutinho moves to Barcelona I can't see them going for Ozil as well. Only realistic option now is United.
