He’s got that Lukakuness about him, where he’ll only regularly perform against the smaller teams.

At the moment Mata and Mkhitaryan haven’t even been doing that, which is probably enough for me at the stage...but we certainly could do better.

People wanting Ozil need to actually watch some Arsenal matches. Look at that first half against Liverpool today so far - so uninspired. Gave the ball away many times, easily out-muscled when he tried to dribble. He literally is another Mata or Mikhi. Just because the transfer fee is free doesn't mean he'll suddenly become good, or won't take up the place & salary of someone who could actually improve us.

I think if Arsenal's team are playing so bad and everyone look like they have a day off then so that will affect Ozil

Another way if Arsenal play so good so Ozil will shive.

Every time he’d walk around and watch players go past him this site would break...

“She canae take the strain!”
I still like him. Especially when he’s motivated.

He gets sloppy when frustrated. Maybe it’s because arsenal play without a proper strategy. They all look lost.

Hmmm.. I am, and once again he looks miles better than Mata or Miki.

Seems like some are determined to find fault with him.

Its' still world class Ozil. Just doesn't show that often under Wenger, he will be mint for us.

Nah, good goal but a terrible first half. I haven't seen anything in this match that Mikhi hasn't done this season, both good and bad. Mata I'll grant you as I think he's worse than both Mikhi and Ozil.

And most importantly Jose knows Ozil from his time at Real Madrid, Jose will know what kind of player he will be getting and how to motivate and get the best out of the player. Ozil was a very different player at Madrid under Jose.

He has been instrumental in their comeback so far, definitely suits the counter-attack.

He's not a bad player on his day (far and few between) and is playing better in the second half, the problem is that we need a Salah, Mane or Coutinho that can dribble far more than we need another no.10. If we could swap Ozil for Mata/Mikhi and also get a top winger in, then fine, but I fear getting Ozil will lead us to just sticking with Rashford/Martial on the wings.

The team need to be playing well for him to perform as weve seen today.

To me, we need someone who is going to dig in and make things happen even thing arent going so well. Not sure Ozil is that guy.

He's a miles better player than Mikhi, has proven it throughout his career.

You're in total denial if you think otherwise.

I'm not for or against him but arguements like"he's better than Mkhitaryan" aren't good enough. The way mkhitaryan has played so far on his united career means even average EPL midfielders are better than him, doesn't mean we should buy them. It's that kind of thinking that probably put us in the mess we are in.

We need to get players that improve us dramatically. Whether Ozil is that man or not is to be decided.

The entire point is:

1) He's on a free
2) He's an improvement on what we have.

That isn't the kind of thinking that put us in a mess, not at all.

Throughout his career? Yes. At Real? Easily. At Arsenal? No way. Even in this match where people are saying he played well, he gave the ball away countless times and had probably 4-5 good moments. It's unfair to compare Ozil's past self when he hasn't been at that level consistently for years, and then forgetting what Mikhi was like at Dortmund at the same time.

Every time I see him, he has spells of being the best player and the worst player on the pitch, all in the same game.

He was immense for about 20 minutes in the 2nd half. Then he just sort of gave up.

Read the posts above. Decent in the second half, but gave the ball away lots of times in the first half and a couple of times in the second. Good goal, and a couple of combination plays, but nothing really great. Salah in this match was great.

Jesus Christ! He's literally been a mainstay in Germany international first team for 8 years. You think 'not bad' players do that? :wenger:

Why are you trying to downplay his second half. He was instrumental in the comeback. His goal was sublime. A touch of class, made look easy by a majestic player. And yeah he does lose the ball sometimes but thats due to position and the role that he plays. It's pretty clear to see, he's MILES ahead of Mata, Mkhitaryan. MILES!

On a free isn't all that it seems. If a few clubs come in for him, most likely his wages will be super high. I'd rather pay a fee for the right player.

Is he really that much of an improvement on the team? That's the more important question. We already have a bunch of players that turn into panicked pussys when the going gets tough... Do we really need another?

a bit shit two out of three seasons?

See, there's your confirmation bias coming in @marktan

Özil had 79 touches, 83% pass completion. Salah 57 touches, 79% pass completion. Both had one key pass, both scored.

It's not my job to scout whether or not he'll be a good fit, Mourinho and his staff will decide on that. What I do know is that he's a proven top class player and he's a damn site better than what we currently have in his position in which, fecking Lingard is a regular starter.

On the counter attack Özil is actually miles better than what he have and is one of the most consistent counter attacking passers in the league, something we're consistently shite at.

Oh and then there's the added bonus being that his career best form came playing under Jose Mourinho.
