Good, we can place him and Griezmann in the rearview mirror and move on.

No, it's not good. Why do people think it's good we miss out on talented players? Turning up their nose to players like Matic, Ozil and Perisic because they think other players who we are not even really linked with are better?

Perisic would have been excellent. Matic has been excellent. Ozil would be excellent.

Stop smoking mate.... there is no chance we'll get Eriksen, Pulisic or Dybala...

Of course they can be gotten, Dybala is unsettled at Juve, Dortmund are a selling club and if Spurs drop out of the top 4 they'll be open to selling one of their big 3.

I disagree.

No chance Spurs sell to us or any other PL rival, not when they move into their new stadium next season.

I agree with this. Basically, unless the player comes out publicly and vents their frustration (like Rose) most of their players are not worth going after as Levy won't sell, unless it's stupid money.

Fair play to Levy though, it's the right thing to do. Why should they be pushovers in the modern era of the Premier League?

How can people turn down Ozil on a free, seriously?

There's always a price, offer them a £100M and they'd sell.

You disagree with what?

With what you said, I don't think Ozil or Perisic are good fits for us which you know as I've said it before, I was just trying to avoid getting into another debate outside of the SMS one for now. :)

Regardless, feeling good about us missing out on top players our management is targetting is bizarre. You can have the opinion other players are slightly better fits. Feeling good that we miss out on players like Ozil is absurd.

No it's not, it's an opinion which is what the board is for, I think he'd be an expensive error that wouldn't fix the issues the team has, something we have done all too often in recent times so I am not going to just go along with whatever a manager may want, plus with all these rumours we don't know for sure which ones the club actually want, so we give our take independent of that.

Have people seen this blokes quick neat passing, vision, and creativity?

Turning him down on a free because you have some conception about his lack of work ethic is mad. Free.

Ok, it doesn't mean you should feel good about us missing out on top players because of what YOU think the team needs. People far more qualified than you spend time and hard work on things like this. Hoping we dont sign players the calibre of Ozil is insane. It's not like we are signing Ross Barkley.

I get that everyone has an opinion, feeling good about our management missing out on top targets (and top players) is weird though.

Also, Mourinho's record with transfers at United so far has been quite good. I wouldn't feel good about us missing out on the players he wants.

I don't think it's that bad if we sign a player as good or better. Am pretty sure @Devil may care would settle for Ozil if we can't get a better player.

That's for him to decide though. For me it's Kroos, Fabregas, Thiago or Gaitan, if not, then Ozil.

Yes it is, but I would think someone who has been so wrong in the past would be less adamant and wary, especially when its regarding a player of Ozil's level. That's all I'm saying.

@haram, you are analyzing his Matic predicament from hindsight, maybe his DM choice - ?Fabinho - would even do a better job than Matic is currently doing. There's no harm in not wanting a player, even the best managers and DOFs do get it wrong at times.

It's the manner in which he spoke about Matic. Go have a look for yourself. The way he talks about these players is weird. He thinks he knows way more than the management does. Fair enough, have an opinion, but perhaps factor in there are people much more qualified than you making these desicions. You can think Fabinho is the better choice without hammering Matic and acting as if Mourinho is a fool for signing him.

Im not saying managers get it right all the time. This guy is flat out happy that we could miss out on MESUT OZIL.

We need to bolster the squad. Ozil isn't the final piece of the jigsaw but clearly he can be effective and we're overdue some German talent. If we were talking about 50+ million? Then that's one thing but we're not. He's in his prime years and Zidane was 29 when he joined Madrid. People fixate on age or this or that but I think though signing big names hasn't been THE answer for us...it shows ambition. We need to do a lot more to catch up to City but I think Jose knows that.

.....or Thiago, Fabregas, Kroos, Bale, Gaitan.

It wouldn't be a transfer window without a Gaitan mention!

Well you can think it's weird but there you have it, I feel how I feel, I don't really care about Mourinho in general to be honest, I'm just tolerating him like I did the past 2 managers, I don't think we have gotten the right fit for the club yet so I'm not concerned about stockpiling his expensive wishlist, that was why I was glad the club refused to fund Perisic. I think he'll keep us top 4 while Pep steamrolls another couple of titles and then we'll part ways, hopefully without too many overpaid 30 somethings left behind after he goes as I think the club will focus on buying for the long term, beyond him.

Specifically on Ozil, I didn't trash him but we are a team that struggles to play against good teams, paying obscene wages to a player like Ozil who is routinely a ghost in big games or has to be shunted wide to accomodate his lack of work ethic is not good business IMO and I will be content to see him stay where he is, he's the kind of addition that helps you win 6-0 rather than 4-0 but wont do anything for us in the games we need to improve in..

He also said he wasn't going to watch us anymore when we signed Lukaku.

Hope we dont lose Ozil. Rather keep him than Sanchez. I actually think he could be a big improvement for man utd. He's more suited for playing forwards like Lukaku, Martial and Rashford in after a turn over quickly than holding on to the ball.

Özil is good for attacking teams like Real Madrid or Germany.

WM qualification games = 20 / Goals 9 and 10 assists

Özil for free sounds tempting though.

Couldn't agree more. He would be at his best in a counter attacking setup.

Yeah its what I was trying to get at. He would be better in your setup than he is in ours. He has the ability to spot passes and pick them out. I'm also under the impression Man Utd are lacking a decent passes who can do that? He'd be the most helpful to that trio in particular though as well as Pogba if he tends to make late runs and wants a goal.

I personally don't want to lose him. He'd be a loss than Sanchez the way the two are playing.

Ozil could make us enjoyable to watch again, and make us more likely to win more trophies...

Get him in January.

We could have the best & most exciting players in the world, & we would still be dire to watch, particularly against the top sides.

I'm no Ozil's biggest fan but our attack has been woeful of late.

Mata/Lingard/Rashford/Miki all been deployed out wide, is not good.

Jose clearly doesn't fancy Miki and Mata is seeing less and less gametime. Lingard has done ok of late, but if you wanna win the prem surely we have do have a better #10.

I can see by the summer, Mata/Miki being sold, retaining Lingard for rotation and us signing a natural RW and a no.10.

If I ask myself do I want Ozil, the answer is no. He's been extremely complacent during his entire Arsenal career. But he is talented and could turn his career round with us.
Given options available to us, can I see it happening? Yes.

I'd rather have Ozil as our mainstay no.10 than lingard that's for damn sure.

People wanting Ozil need to actually watch some Arsenal matches. Look at that first half against Liverpool today so far - so uninspired. Gave the ball away many times, easily out-muscled when he tried to dribble. He literally is another Mata or Mikhi. Just because the transfer fee is free doesn't mean he'll suddenly become good, or won't take up the place & salary of someone who could actually improve us.

Ozil is far better than Mata or Mkhi and Arsenal in general are a poor team nowadays.

He's been their best player this season arguably.
